When I was younger, if you wanted to put something on the internet, you were the one that had to pay for it.At some point this idea got flipped around, and people thought that you should be paid for publishing content. That consumers of your content should pay you even though you're the one making it and wanting people to see it.I think this shift in commercialization was where it all started going down.People stopped making out of passion, stopped supporting themselves, and leeches took over, dependent on siphoning from the users rather than providing something of their own. It's all just a means to get your time and money now, nothing pure.

>>109366739The main issue is if you somehow get auto recommended or autoplayed or misclick on any on the right, all the right is insta spam recommended to you now. That's YTs biggest issue. You get your feed in order and you decide to watch a single BMX compilation or a car crash comp or god forbid a linus tech tips video your feed is just chucked in the garbage and replaced with dogshit spam videos. So you either have to watch that shit signed out/incognito or install third party extensions to manage it. The third option of spending 3 days clicking "don't recommend" I do not consider feasible since it can be undone in less than 3 seconds.

I was 11 in 2009 and back then most people had never heard of Nyan Cat. That was only in around 2011 that people started talking about it. I feel old. Back then 4chan was the stuff of nightmares, and so was the Internet in general. Lots of illegal stuff going on, and some of it was very easy for people to see on accident.
YouTube has never been better for me hyperspecific to my niche interests. Way better than early 2010s where it was just let's plays and friendship simulators.

>>109367571Algorithmic scrolling has made this really popular. Disruptive content keeps people watching for at least a couple seconds longer which is it all it needs to do to thrive. When I hear people in real life on their phones and I overhear crime videos, police, arguments, etc. it just creeps me out how they tolerate that. I deleted Tiktok after it shoved a video of a woman dragging her screaming toddler down a sidewalk in my feed. I get relaxed with things relevant to me then scroll down once more and there's child abuse. Actual torment nexus CIA torture method shit.
