what ever happened to all those cool ass viruses and worms from the 90s and early 2000s? There was always something cool going on. Now it's just boring ransomware and APTs. Do groups like 29A even exist still?

Young black hats were perpetuating their own virginity through their hobbies making them miserablebin the long run.
Some woke up and had sex, some went full shizo and trooned out.

It was the same shit, your rose tinted glasses and constant kvetching about times you didn't experience are exhausting. Stop breathing.
>>
>>109365368
Why don't you make one?

Money happened.
People used to do it for the love of the game. Now it's primarily to extort, steal, or otherwise profit off of resources.
The longer an infection stays hidden, the longer it can be abused for profit. Putting on a show is counter to that, so they don't anymore.

They made it extremely illegal. Anyone who could do fun viruses and worms ended up working for NSA instead of prison

lulzsec weren't the most technically capable by any stretch of the imagination but the way they caused sheer ass ripping terror for the news was second to none.
>>
I guess people who did "damage for fun" grew up a little and turned to harmless but impressive demoscene instead.

This Anon gets it

because most "viruses" are subscription services sold to third world "hackers".
All the talented people are making bank
>>
Finding vulns was way easier back then. Those oldschool hackers are nothing to be impressed about these days
>>
>>109365368
All those people went to work for microsoft, mcafee, apple, google, gov, etc and now they just ship their worms and Trojans through official distribution lines
>>
>>109365368
it was script kiddies back then. people who liked to tinker and gain access to machines through exploits and hacking. now it's all corporations and foreign governments who want access to your data.
>>
>>109365368
Spyware and corporate control through rootkits are all features now.
>>
>>109365368
hackers are like ninjas you dont even realize it but your computer is already infected with 15 different spywares

Capitalism. Aka, the love of money, aka the root of all evil.

they still exist, they're just 0-day exploits only shared with mossad, NSA, and other government agencies. these people creating these hacks and such are 'black hat' but the glowies plant CP on their computers (with the aforementioned 0-day exploits as well as hardware level backdoor services) and coerce them into becoming 'white hat' slaves on a GS pay scale pittance.
