can glasses be extremely harmful for someone to wear ? can glasses alter the mind of someone suffering from hyperopia ? can this be the origin of many troubles in the population ? is my theory somehow correct ?
>>109365953Sorry, but this thread is not about LLMs, so I will not add to the discussion. I'm just here to remind you to make it about LLMs next time. Thank you and have a great day!

>>109365953I got my first pair of glasses (for myopia) unusually late in life and ended up researching this kind of thing to an autistic level of detail. In young children, going without correction or with wrong correction can be very harmful, leading to amblyopia/lazy eye, or to an underdeveloped visual system in general. In adults, wearing the wrong prescription, especially an unnecessary or wrong prism correction, can cause headaches or disorientation or other chronic issues while you wear them. I think the current understanding is that these effects are unlikely to be permanent for adults. There is a bunch of material out there ("endmyopia" etc) which advocates for natural cures for eye conditions which mostly boil down to wearing no glasses, or slightly too weak glasses, and believing the eye will kind of adjust itself to fix it. My conclusion was that there's no evidence any of that shit works at all, and it's basically pure cope from people who don't like wearing glasses or are worried that they need to keep buying stronger glasses. It's homeopathy for the eyes.If someone has myopia, their eyeballs are too long. Wearing an undercorrection will not convince their eyeballs to become shorter, they're just staring at blurry shit for no reason.Since you have hyperopia, your eyeballs are too short. You can compensate for it with muscles (not possible with myopia), but it means putting constant strain on those muscles. There's no advantage to doing that instead of wearing glasses and letting those muscles rest.If you have astigmatism (which you probably do, it's unusual to have a purely SPH prescription... if you have a non-zero CYL in either eye than you have astigmatism) then your eyeball has different sizes in different axes.Again there is no known or proposed mechanism for this to get fixed, other than random natural changes over a long time which may just as easily make things worse.tldr, just wear the correct glasses for your eyes.
