These are typically the "Tech Guys" who do this, like for example disabling secureboot even though most common distros support it and for the ones that don't enrolling a key is do-able and far simpler then what you see on android devices (where it's also do-able on at least snapdragon SOCs). And fear of the unknown.

You are using an untrusted method of downloading software and advocating for an extremely robust antivirus to catch anything that gets through. It's a backwards approach. If something compromised landed on your PC then you're already insecure. An antivirus is a last resort after everything else has already gone wrong.
