After more than a decade in tech, I genuinely want to live in the woods or on a farm. I have felt this way for way longer than it was a meme. I noticed it became a meme starting about 8 years ago and now is a common mean: walking away from tech to live in the woods. If you feel the same way: why?I won't babysit this thread but I will check back to reply. I think it is fascinating that many devs independently arrived at the same dream.

my motivation for woods life is:>grew up in woods>went to college>got CS degree>moved to city>got job>bunch of needy ass fake business suits and complainers make me want to vomit>working in tech, and being good at tech, is so emotionally difficult the work itself is easy compared to dealing with these non-technical assholes at work>I honestly don't need other people for anything. I can RTFM and fix anything.>Open office floor plan I think is what burned out my desire to interact with people. burned it out hard>I do have several close friends, we like to see each other face to face.>I am incredibly dissappointed and unimpressed with the direction of Information Technology over the last 10-15 years.>people in the city are weak, stupid, and boring... would be dead in a week without paying everybody to do everything them>I prefer to do everything for myself SO THAT IT IS ACTUALLY DONE RIGHT e.g. I even do my own oil change in a parking lot because a simple oil change is too much for retarded fake-mechanics at jiffy lube.My own explanations are thin. I don't know why I have the urge to retire early and to the woods. I hope to understand this urge better as the thread cotinues.
>>109373307why do tech people on /g/ talk about living in the woods and alot of people on /g/ straight up disappeared after posting from the woods for a while.I am a tech worker. I am not going to reveal where I am at on my masterplan but I am quite far along.
>>109373307also... advice is THE LAST THING i need or want. I am just curious, beyond Ted jokes, why other anons have the same urge.

>>109373303I don't really need the memes.I just want to live in a shabby hut/house that I can mostly repair myself with not many neighbours around and if I don't win the lottery just some job that rolls by day by day without much annoyance>>109373330Technically I grew up in berlin. Practically I grew up in the forest.I think I always underestimated that, but now that I live directly inside the city I hate it so fucking much.Back in the day I just traveled 1h to get anywhere and then I could party all night. I think this was the best of both worlds. And since I don't need to party that heavy anymore I can even live a bit further away
