What does /g/ use for local network home security cameras? I see Dahua and Hikvision recommended. Is Frigate the right software? Is this kind of setup good enough for human detection (e.g. someone walking up my drive, present on my patio) or are sensors a better idea?

Frigate is great, but it's documentation on how to configure reolink cameras specifically is seriously lacking. At least it was when I was figuring all this shit out. All the cameras are firewalled off from the internet, so they can't phone home.I've also got homeassistant running so I can view the footage remotely from a smartphone app. The UI is kinda shit but it works.

I have a CX810, it gives a clear enough picture to get a general description of a person ~20-30 feet away, but you won't get a clear image of their face. Cars driving by on the road ~30-40 feet away are blurry, and you're not getting a license plate from it at that distance. But I mainly need them for evidence my chink neighbors are being a nuisance and trespassing, or to deter them from doing so, and they're fine for that. They're definitely cheaper than dahua and hikvision, so you get what you pay for.

I set up an EmpireTech (rebranded Duahua, I think) camera in my crawlspace so I don't have to manually get under there and crawl around to check my traps. It's Chinese nonsense, so it's on an isolated vlan running out of an extra nic on a proxmox server. I can view the feed from a vm and it's set up for motion detection in frigate, which worked just fine when I was testing it for humans, running on a 3080. Powered via poe.

You install cameras around your property and in your vehicle and connect it to your meta glasses and it reads faces or license plates of foids it sends an alert to the open source network. Anyone can create alerts to know when a specific foid is found by the network.

You don't need a GPU for basic motion detection, it literally just checks to see if the pixel intensities change from one frame to the next. The outside of my apartment's door also has complete camera coverage, with no blind spots. It's basically all the same. I run amcrest cameras to blue iris. But I also do segmentation and reverse proxy etc etc so it's all actually locally controlled and about as secure as you can get.

Frigate is great. I use it and two dahua cameras and it works really well.I have an A380 for the section stuff and it's good at picking up people, cars, and motorcycles. IIt reads licence plates too. It does do facial recognition but that can be pretty inaccurate. I'm eventually going to upgrade my GPU and pay for Frigate+ to get a better detection model, then add about 3 more cameras.
