Microsoft is worth trillions. It rakes in an ungodly amount of money every year. It has thousands and thousands and thousands of engineers and can afford the most cracked engineers possible when it wants to.All it would take to rewrite Windows from the ground up, into something reliable, professional, polished, is hiring like 50 elite engineers, giving them Codex/Claude, unbridled access to the current source code for context scanning, cutting them loose. They could easily do it.But in all of its big fat bloated arrogant bureaucratic excess it will never. It will continue to frankenstein dog shit onto cat shit.
They won't do that as there is no profit incentive in that? Sure, Windows is a shitty operating system but it is for you and me, in the eyes of your average joe it really doesn't matter.
>>109392619Of course there is. They are bleeding market share and taking a brand hit every single day. Their status as default OS is in question. Once you breach the event horizon it's hard to turn momentum back around.
>>109392579I'm sure even Microsoft is hoping that people will one day stop using Windows. Forcefully updating windows, coding agents using PowerShell etc evolving in that direction.Rather than continually worry about Windows in the enterprise we should ignore it. Switch to whatever and demand that everyone else accomodate it. Don't work for banks, let them be filled by Jeet windows users and become more incompetent wrt other Fintech.
>>109392619>They won't do that as there is no profit incentive in that? This is the same reason Activision wont do shit about cheating in their games. As long as fuckheads spend money hand over fist on battlepasses.... The examples are endless
ack-thropic already has plenty of high IQ engineers producing thousands of KLOCs, they can simply outpace microsoft, apple and others producing new OSes
>>109392579>giving them Codex/Claude,bwahaha
Most of the work is keeping things compatible. That involves communicating with a gazillion parties. I don't care how elite those 50 engineers are, they can't do all that.
>>109392579another thread where there's guy who doesn't know what he's saying and other redditors who don't know what they're saying
>>109392627>Once you breach the event horizon it's hard to turn momentum back around. What would that be 10% desktop share? Even that market is shrinking
i dont think you know how fucked recreating a legacy OS as byzantine as windows is, i remember the days when all the C++ and C devs made fun of webdevs because apparently much of it is so nontechnical even a chatbot can do it
You guys need to learn to search for financial statements.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/investor/earnings/fy-2026-q3/press-release-webcast
>>109392579op has no ideathey outsource windows since win10 or earliertheir own "engineers" (ofc some of them are elite) ain't doing shitofficially write only secure part of windowscodex/claude windows part would be same as your win11
I switched to Bazzite this week. I don't see myself turning back anytime soon
