With the whole carrot fork it seems like the project has been overtaken by the feds.

Their communication channels seem to be botted as fuck too.

Context? If I understand monero enough, either the transaction routing mechanism is broken, or nothingburger

what about forking wownero? actually making it normie friendly?
>>
>>109395340

Currently your Monero wallet comes with a set of 2 keys:

-> A private view key which allows you to see XMR incoming to the wallet.

-> A spend key, which allows you to spend, and, subsequently, know how much XMR leaving your wallet.

> In other words, there is not a "view only" way to see how much XMR is coming out of a wallet

This is by design because it gives Monero inherent plausible deniability - Auditors can at most see how much XMR is incoming to a wallet if they ask for a view key, but they can't ask for your spend key because that would mean they would be able to spend your XMR. You always have a solid grounds to refuse.

There are plans of a new fork (Carrot) which will include new view keys. These view keys will give full visibility over all operations tied to a wallet. In other words, you will be able to see how much XMR is coming, and how much is leaving a wallet.

This completely breaks the core philosophy of monero.

-> For enforcement, refusing to provide a view key becomes an immediate red flag.

-> For exchanges, it will introduce fungibility, There will be a "clean", curated networks of users tied to Carrot addresses being monitored, and a "dirty" unregulated tier.
>>
>>109395480
Thanks! I guess sticking with XMR solves the issue then
>>
>>109395579
It doesn't solve the latter which can be used to slowly strangle the original

>-> For enforcement, refusing to provide a view key becomes an immediate red flag.
Wrong, on multiple fronts:
1. You assume you're already deanonymized
2. Anyone whose request to your view keys you can't reject also can compromise you another way as is
>-> For exchanges, it will introduce fungibility, There will be a "clean", curated networks of users tied to Carrot addresses being monitored, and a "dirty" unregulated tier.
This is the opposite of fungibility. You might mean auditability. This also requires people willingly selling to exchanges and buying from them. No one currently interested in XMR is interested in a CEX with these strict KYC laws (if they didn't KYC you, you'd still be anonymous even if all your claims about CARROT were correct).
Additionally the whole system falls apart if you simply have a second wallet which isn't on an exchange or if someone on an exchange sells his XMR to a wallet with unknown view keys.

>>109395340
The context is that some guy who *only* cares about XMR's price increasing has been posting this FUD and he repeatedly got btfo'd. What he always forgets to post about is that before CARROT gets introduced we'll implement fcmp++ which will massively increase anonymity even after CARROT is pushed.

Monero bros are "trust the science" type of fellas who a have been shitting on zcash all the time saying things like "privacy is not optional", "if can show your wallet then you will be forced to show your wallet" which are very valid arguments, but now that Montero devs want to do the same monero bros turned into "if you have nothing to hide, why don't you want to show it?", "it's actually good for the project", "just don't give your view keys bro".
It's useless to have a conversation with Monero Bros.

>"trust the science"
We trust the publicly available and easily auditable code we comply and run.
>"if you have nothing to hide, why don't you want to show it?"
Except that could only be forced to give out your view keys if you are already deanonymized. What you retards fudders repeatedly forget is that automatizing specific tasks which require knowledge of your wallet (unimportant stuff like seeing if your customers actually paid for their products) currently is impossible in many cases and easily solved by view keys.
>It's useless to have a conversation with Monero Bros.
We are extremists and our anonymity well be massively strengthened by the time CARROT is pushed into main.
>>
>>109395999
>We trust the code
No, you do not. You turned it into a hype cult were any criticism is seen as opposition, then you get defensive and come with excuses trying to explain why 2+2 was 4 yesterday but it's actually 3 today.
The entirety of the Monero community knew "optional anonimity" is bad for everyone, you guys argued many times against ZCash, and objectively correct while doing so. Now it's actually a good thing for some reason.
>you could only be forced to give out your view keys if you are already deanonymized.
No. You do not understand, you're either dishonest or being ignorant.
You will be forced to give out your view keys because the entire infrastructure will be adapted to forcing you to do so.
Exchanges will be forced to ask for your view keys to audit your funds, and the ones who don't will be targeted.
Every online service provider or products seller that do accept Monero will be forced by regulations to surrender their view keys and the view keys of their clients.
No one will come directly to you demanding for your view keys, you will handle them yourself because not doing so will introduce so many constraints, restrictions and legal issues that you and everyone else will take the path of least resistance.
>>
>>109396173
>Now it's actually a good thing for some reason.
Because it's opt-out (meaning privacy by default) and easily circumvented (literally just need a second wallet on which you hold your funds).
None of this is about how the code is bad because you got no clue about it.
>>109396173
>You will be forced to give out your view keys because the entire infrastructure will be adapted to forcing you to do so.
They don't even know who I am. What are they going to do? They can't even send me an email.
>Exchanges will be forced to ask for your view keys to audit your funds, and the ones who don't will be targeted.
CEXes, not DEXes. Also won't affect P2P transactions. So considering no CEX currently has us listed due to KYC and AML laws (which have more requirements than what the view keys could show) at worst we'll be at the same spot.
>Every online service provider or products seller that do accept Monero will be forced by regulations to surrender their view keys
Except that currently this isn't even the case for any bank transaction. Any bank *operating in your country* can be forced to hand out transaction info, but if your local business has an account in a foreign bank it can't be forced to give out info.
>and the view keys of their clients.
Which they don't have, never could have and can't argue to have on any legal basis. Do you think your local super market needs to know all of you bank history before you're allowed to purchase something? lol
>everyone else will take the path of least resistance.
Ah yes, the good old 'Signing up to a CEX and having to perform multiple humiliation rituals in order to get KYCed is so much easier than just pressing 'create wallet' in your GUI software'. Fuck off shill.

To any anon reading: How would they demand me (an anonymous XMR user) to give up my view keys if they don't even know who I am?
>>
>>109396297
>Ah yes, the good old 'Signing up to a CEX and having to perform multiple humiliation rituals in order to get KYCed
Yes, exactly. And view keys will give them the tools to enforce this broadly over the Monero ecosystem.
Good that we are on the same page, monero nigga.

TL;DR: this is a non-issue, nobody who actually understands how CARROT works is the least bit worried.

You may now continue the obvious concern trolling.

Those "WTF" spikes were also hackers funneling a massive heist of stolen coins through monero wallets btw, it was like several hundred million dollar theft operation from a cold store wallet they phished the owners as technical help support for, which explains where josh moons donations went.
