Just for the sake of argument how the whole "linux is free, if you don't value your time" one is anymore valid? Heck, even in the beginning there were justwerk distros (Mandrake Linux) you could simply use without bothering about what's under the hood.
>inb4 hw compatibility issues/problems
Was pretty much solved when livecd where introduced, since then you could simply boot linux from ram and see if installing it on that machine was even worth the effort.
>inb4 using the program XY is a pain/impossibility
Again, livecd to test if possible and if reasonable. Then again that's another issue altogether: if you NEED to use a specific tool then the OS underneath is just a forethought, one should simply follow the path of lest resistance for it, doing the opposite is mental retardation on the user part, not an issue inherent of the linux experience.

>muh livecd
especially with your description of it, it only potentially reduces wasted time if you happen to find an issue, but also adds the risk of wasting even more time if the "live testing" didn't catch some issue before committing to a full installation

..yes? Of course if you frame it like you're going to fail unequivocally at the end then ofc it's "time wasted" but you're using a logical fallacy here.

>if you happen to find an issue, but also adds the risk of wasting even more time if the "live testing" didn't catch some issue before committing to a full installation
If you're already at the physical installation phase i would assume you already probed the system enough to gauge if any potential, unforseen setbacks are offset by the advantages you met.

livecd is slow as molasses

I've never understood the 'if you don't value your free time' meme. I installed linux and I had to do less work to make it less shit than I do on windows.
My friends are all retards though so when I gave htem linux they bitch and moan

bro.... hopefully you don't use a 2024 distro, do you?

His argument was terrible too. He's talking about Photoshop and Adobe products as if that's something a programmer actually uses regularly. If you're working for an even remotely competent company the programmers will never ever touch anything related to graphic design.

FTFY
