If you don't have at least 128GB ram you ngmi
>>
>>109408556
I waited.
I lost.
Dont remind me.
>>
DDR2 tho? Since you don't seem to care about speed why not just set up a swapfile on a tape drive and have 18TB of ram instead?
>>
>>109408556
I run 4x64gb sticks of ddr4 3200 ecc ram in my server, so fuck you
>>
>>109408687
latence
>>
>>109408556
A gen5 nvme is more than 2x faster than a ddr2 stick lmao.
>>
>>109408556
even if this were 16 channels somehow, it would still only barely be above 100gb/s
>>
>>109408556
My phone only has 16GB of RAM... It's so over for me...
>>
>>109408723
But much higher latency.
>>
How would I go about getting that much dedotated wam for the server?
>>
>>109408687
Better than this, an intel optane m.2 made for random read/writes with zero degradation like normal nvmes. I have a 32 gig one just for swap. But they had way bigger ones you can get that are ideal for swap space.

>$200 retail for a sacrificial swap drive
why not just, go with the "buy a cheap sacrificial laptop pull m.2" for a fraction of the price?
>>
>>109408556
I do. Waitfags eternally btfo though
>>
>>109409531
It's not sacrificial. Again, it doesn't degrade. It was originally intended to be gigantic cache space for your drives, it in itself is not meant to be used as storage. Also I was wrong 32gb is the max size but they do make hybrid nvmes that have the optane memory with normal nvme storage built into the module on top of that. I apparently already have the max size optane memory module. It's best usage is as swap space/page for when/if you do run out of normal memory. Idk why you would get it, I just already have one for free.
>>
>>109409193
What do you use it for? And won't that kill the m.2 pretty fast? I always did it with usb sticks for compiling large projects and had like 10 usb sticks die within a year.

Again, optane doesn't degrade I don't know how many times I have to say this.
>>
>>109409567
That's not true at all tho. Optane also degrades, just a little bit slower. It will survive a few petabytes of writing while other ssds usually die after around 1 petabyte.
>>
>>109408567
You idiot!
>>
>>109408556
I have 768gb ddr4 (and 64 ddr5 on desktop)
I should probably downsize to 256 and sell the rest
>>
>>109408556
>tfw only 80gb
Oh well at least China's making RAM now.
>>
>>109410316
What do you do with it?
>>
>>109408855
Doesn't matter for llm inference
>>
>>109410969
It’s a big honkin server with every ram slot filled
don’t need as much ram nowadays so I’m thinking of selling most of the sticks, esp now that samshit is expected to raise dram prices another 20% soon
>>
>>109408556
>DDRR2
why
>>
>>109409635
NO BULLY AHHH
>>
it's so over
>>
>>109408556
i have 96gb ddr 4 in my server and 64gb ddr5 in my ai box with a 5080
it’s over for me
>>
>>109408556
ddr2 is slower than sata ssds
>>
>>109408800
your OS won't even update unless it has 64gb of ram
wagecels are seething!
>>
>>109408556
There's DDR RAM not in the hands of an AI datacenter, you say?
>>
>>109408556
384GB ddr4 12 channels on server
192GB ddr4 12 channels on desktop
