>>109409036The truth is that it's different for every battery. Some batteries prevent you from completely charging or discharging them. Some smartphones will show you 100% battery when the battery is charged to 80% to protect it etc. It's usually said to keep it between 20-80%, but that advice is pretty outdated and can even reduce battery lifetime. It really depends on your model of battery, the charger you use and the hardware you use it for.

phone batterys love to sit between 40-60%. That's where I keep mine most of the time. I rarely allow it to discharge it before 35% and limit to 70% charge. 2 years later and I'm at 97% battery health

>>109409036here are my 2 centsi bought huawei p20 pro when it came out in 2018. at the time it launched it had a very good battery life, large capacity for the time (4000 mah) combined with aggressive battery saving settings (typical for chink phones at the time and even today). first 2-3 years battery lasted for so long and it charged so quickly with included charger that i only really charged it once in the afternoon. i would top it off from 30ish percent to 80-90 and unplug it. after 2 years of using it like that battery degraded and i often needed to top it off 2 times a day, but i dont got time for that so i started charging it overnight to 100% and it lasted me whole day for 2 years. after that i noticed i sometimes had to top it off in the middle of the day in order to avoid battery anxiety later that day so i snooped around and found some settigns for battery life preservation like never really charging to 100%, or only charging to 100% moments before it would start to get used (phone learns from your usage, like alarm, when you turn it on in the morning etc). anyway i turned all of those off, continued to charge it overnight and i again could get whole day battery life for year, year and half more before i noticed i again ha to charge it 2 or even 3 times a day. the phone slowed down a little bit. finally the battery was done, after almost 8 years of abusenow im running oppo find x9 pro. tok it off charger this morning at 8 am, it is now 11 pm and it has 60% battery with 3,5h SOT. smart thing would be to charge it to 80% tomorrow after i get up, but fuck that i just plug it every night and dont think about it. i wouldnt want to use it after 5 years anyway so no point in trying to stretch battery health so hardtl:dr: charge it overnight and dont think about it. dont be a slave to something so inexpensive and easily replaceable like a phone

>>109409036The only thing that determines the wear is the total charge passed through the battery. Keeping it 20%-80% simply means using it less so the wear is less. If you 20%-80% two times a day vs 0-100% one time a day the former will have more wear.

>>109409036i'll assume we're talking lithium here but you might wanna let people know in advance when asking. unless it's about a lone cell (like18650) every battery/device has BMS(battery management system) which will prevent you from having your battery both undercharged and overcharged. with modern lithium charging it when half full does basically nothing to damage it. what breaks your battery is heat. for example if you game on your phone for a long time and plug this bitch to charge when it's hot that WILL degrade it. people will tell you to not go under 30% and over 80% charge but that mostly gets cancelled out by increased number of charge/discharge cycles so i wouldn't be very anal about it, just not worth the effort. when storing device/battery not in use over longer periods of time keep it around 50% charge (fully charged/discharged will fuck it up relatively fast) and it'll hardly degrade even over many years. of course there are exceptions to this rule where basically every smartphone will drain your battery (and surprisingly fast too) even when supposedly switched off. that's the gist of it.
