I recently upgraded from my old Lenovo RTX 2050 laptop to a second hand MSI Katana with an RTX 4060. The game performance is pretty good but what bothers me is that the battery dies so quickly. Tried messing around with the settings in MSI center, putting it on power saving mode but it still dies pretty fast compared to my old laptop. And I kinda feel bad about upgrading when I realize I won't even be able to watch a movie in full length without having to charge it. Also the keyboard fucking sucks. The enter key is too small and the WASD keys look different from the other keys because "we are le gamers". That could be the worst design decision I've ever seen. Are all modern laptops like this? How can you guys cope with it?

The battery on a gaming laptop should be thought of more as a portable UPS. It's to keep the thing on between a move from one outlet to another or to not lose work if there's an outage.

Use MSI afterburner to underclock your GPU.If you have pre-12th gen Intel, use throttle stop to under volt your CPU.If you have 12th gen or AMD then lawl.

I ran stress test and determined that 4.2ghz is the only frequency it can sustain without throttling.Then I vibe coded a program that makes it very easy to do that.

You can switch over to the IGPU and power off the Nvidia card entirely when you dont need it on some laptops...Undervolting helps too but the main culprit will probably be an old battery that needs replacing...Intel has only gotten power efficient in laptops in the last 1-2 years so dont expect miracles even after switching the battery.Older gaming laptops are really just portable desktops with a small footprint and a built-in UPS.
