Unlike a paid commercial product, what does a user actually contribute to the developer to be worth their time? If anything, usually most users are purely a burden. Most users will not even attempt to be helpful when they run into an issue, nor will they do the bare minimum of being nice and reporting it in a helpful way. Instead, they will complain and be act like they are entitled to your time, simply because you dared to share your project in the open for others to benefit.
