Long term plan is to add even more customization, e.g. categories to catalog channel - think g/ has sections for ai, for smartphones and so on and you post thread to correct section and user can hide whole section if not interested. This would be useful for bigger channels.

You can access any public channels without user but for functionality like your pinned chats, library, follows you need user so I dont see a problem here. Besides it doesnt require any email or registration literally one click to set username.
