Got probably 30 odd Core 2 Duo E8400/1st Gen i5/2nd Gen i5 desktops/laptops in storage, pic related just some of themHaven’t got around to being bothered selling them as they are so worthless/waste of timeMaybe if I wait it out a bit more they'll become "retro" and "cool"?Maybe now is the time to sell them as computer prices are so high?Maybe I should just throw them in ewaste?Maybe I should do a /g/ donation run lolI'm undecided on this matter.I’m kind of thinking what >>109421028 is thinking. I see all these projects and screenshots bringing Windows Vista/7 back nowadays, are we really this close to Windows Vista/7 nostalgiafagging? Should I just wait 5 years then sell them $300 a pop?Currently it seems that Pentium 3s are all the rage and Pentium 4’s are slowly coming up in price and see similar machines to these in the $100-150 range used. Wonder if this will go up or down? Yes on the bottom shelf that's about 30 or so ipad 2sWonder if they'll be worth anything one dayProbs not planned obsolescence appleshit lol
>>109421647>Maybe if I wait it out a bit more they'll become "retro" and "cool"they are>Currently it seems that Pentium 3s are all the ragethey were in 2020 but the reseller grift has largely moved on to XP era gear
>>109421647Just vibesell them.
>>109421663This. Sell them on eBay with ***VINTAGE*** and ***RETRO*** in the title and hipster weenies will gobble them up.
Can't wait in the 2030s how people are nostalgic with windows 10 wallpapers and retro cards like the GTX 1050s
>>109422867The 1080 gained legendary status in the early 2020s already only a couple years after release. It definitely will be a classic collectible in the future>tfw only have a 1070
>>109423087I think the entire 10 series will be honestly, they're still viable even today if you're not playing UE5 slop
>>109421647I think any desktop that can natively run windows xp is worth selling.Windows xp desktops for retro games are peak.
>>109421663Seriously?XP is my generation and I don't feel like going out spending $200 on a fucking core 2 duo E8400 lmaoMaybe this is because I already own 100 of them>>109422758>vibesellIs this a thing? A website that can automate listing 20 of them?>>109423315I guess, I mean I have a rig with XP on one drive for some old games but it's a i7 3770I feel like a core 2 duo or 1st gen i5 is pretty mid for that. I guess it may seem like a better deal when RAM and shit is so expensive right now. Some people just want something that just works.>>109423087I also have a 1070 and have no issues playing anything & runs 4 monitors just fine. Will be playing the long game or will just stop playing games lol
>>109421647That stack in the upper right of the picture with no expansion slots can be sold or trashed, most people who want old hardware usually wanna rice it up and those can't really be riced beyond RAM and maybe a CPU upgrade. All the ones on the middle shelf except the far left, you should harvest those expansion cards out of then sell or trash, because they require a special form-factor PSU to fit around the audio and PS/2 ports. The far left tower on the middle shelf and the two to the left on the top shelf are the ones to invest your RAM sticks and best expansion cards into, and try to sell for big money. Some of the older Core 2 Duo's actually make for solid WinXP systems.
>>109423716Yes the ones that aren't the HP ones are i5 760s with a foxconn h55mxv board and 4gb of ddr3 but only 2 slots in use.I _think_ they have Radeon 5450s in them Low ProfileI have given maybe half a dozen to friends over the years and a couple have taken them out and put them in standard ATX cases as they are just standard ATX boards.I do agree maybe I will try and sell those first and throw some more RAM etc in. Then when I'm tired of selling stuff I will low-effort sell the rest of themThose HPs are actually not too bad a friend cut a hole in one and put a Full Size GPU in lmao I can't find the pic though
>>109421647>then sell them $300 a popYou added way too many zeros.
>>109423087>tfw I am financially destitute but my 1080 is still going strong so this has now become my retirement planbros, we may just make it after all
>>109421647Old Appleshit has its collector's value too. Look into how much people pay for original iPods.
>>109421647The Core 2s will sell as XP gaming rigs. Especially if you pair them with some cheapo XP compatible card like an HD 6450. The i5s can run XP, but they're a bit too anachronistic. It'll probably be a couple years until you can sell them as Windows 7 gaming machines. Feel free to try though.I would adjust your expectations about the price though. Those "retro gaming machines" you see listed for crazy high prices are usually either a bunch of really old high end parts in very good condition, or don't actually find a buyer. Lower end or more common stuff probably isn't going to sell for more than $200, at least nothing of that age. You could also part them out. A lot of home PC owners and businesses still run office box machines of that age and will end up looking for parts to replace them when they break.
>>109423607>I feel like a core 2 duo or 1st gen i5 is pretty mid for that. The Core 2 Duo is the ideal for XP stuff. Its what most people want since that was the best thing around back when XP was in common use for gaming. Runner up is Pentium 4s, but those sucked at the time compared to AMD's options so they aren't as popular in the retro market as they otherwise would be.You gotta keep in mind that these are collectors, they aren't going for practicality, but period accuracy. The newer machines are still usable in current year though.
>>109423607>XP is my generation and I don't feel like going out spending $200 on a fucking core 2 duo E8400 lmaoI wouldn't either (not unless I won the lottery or inherited millions of dollars) and that's despite me being an avid collector of vintage hardware. Its not rare enough to warrant that kind of price, not yet at least. Basic bitch DOS stuff is worth that much now, because most of it got sent to landfills years ago, so there isn't much left that still works.
>>109421647Simply personify them, develop romantic feelings for them, then start hoarding them, and turn them into an AI supercomputer like this guy
>>109421647Junk because those cap out at 16GB max if you are lucky, since they use DDR2 it's more likely that 8GB is cap. Those are probably from after the Intel ME was added, so they don't have value as being a pre-botnet machine. I'm guessing they're Dells?
>>109421647If you’re in a big city check if some hackerspace wants themIf not, toss them. They will never be cool, valuable or worth anything, it’s just old ewaste like a gpu from 2005
I recently ran windows 98 again and I dont miss it, it's easy enough to run old games now, most games from that era have been modernized, like tyr quake and raze for build games, fallout CE, even dune 2000 works well enough and was a bitch to get it workingOnly sim golf needs to be modernized still however it can run
>>109424296I have two 1080 mini cards, I was thinking of getting the rx 9060xt 16gb but it's not really a big enough jump in performance for me, I'll wait for rdna5
>>109424942Pic shows mostly HP machines that would have full AMTThough probably they're still in the era where ME can be nerfed, idk
Core 2 duo era hardware was produced in greater numbers than anything before or since, I guess it will be rare eventually but not for decades. P4 existed during an era of faulty capacitors and ROHS woes so a lot of them died, whereas C2D was after that stuff and tend to just keep working forever. So just stash one or two, give away or trash the rest.I think by the time Win 7 and especially 8 and 10 were around most kids were using smartphones instead of computers so I doubt there will EVER be a nostalgia market for 2010s systems.
>>109424263This thread actually reminds me, I have a new in box Commodore 64 wonder if I could get 300 for this?Shit is way before my time, from deceased estate but they never used it, must have been a gift or something. No accessories thoughAnd I heard the stock power supply can blow up the unit due to bad caps, so may have to buy a new PSU and provide it in order to sell it? >>109424439I guess you're right. I have kept my first and second laptop for nostalgia sakeAn N270 is almost completely useless nowadays but there's something about booting up Virtual PC on that thing and going through the struggles that is fun for me so I keep it around.Second laptop is the only blu-ray drive I have so I guess it's more a utility thing.
>>109425377Yeah it’s random with nostalgia. Dosbox was shit for years with people discussing how to play old pc games and now there a massive compatibility stretch from like 2003-2026 and we’re going to skip compatibility issues with proton which is what wine was supposed to do for years but never did. Old phones are a massive gap in lost media. That old iPhones/android shit you throw away everyday with old games/media is going to be hard to replace with everything be cloud hosted. You know how it would be fucking stupid to keel stacks of old mobile phones? That would be like keeping stacked of old pc hardware in the 2000s/2010s
>>109424960I sold a 7900gt for $50 so I wouldn't say 2005 hardware is worthless
>>109422867I'm still using an Optiplex with a 1050 in it.
>>109422867As windows gets progressively worse I can almost see this happening. When win 10 launched it was extremely shitty. MS had to force update people's computers to get adoption, yet they still didn't hit their first year target. Things improved only barely over the 6 years of "incremental updates" (perpetual beta) yet people heralded it as the pinnacle of software when Whydoesittakesolongtopenexplorer11 launched.
>>109421647>a /g/ donation runSet ut up as a cluster FTP server for /g/. The last ones all fell off the net (full of delicious files).
>>109421647Use it to mine crypto.
>>109429091lol an e8400 with 8gb ram and intel graphics from 2009? Don't think so lol>>109428842Wish I could host stuff but I am in AU and here we get terrible upload speeds, every plan is like 500 down 40 up or 1000 down 80 up. good luck with that!
>>109421647They will never become retro and cool because PC games of that era fucking suck. The reason why 80s and 90s PCs have value is because people want to play games on the original hardware. Everything the game industry has made post-2005 is garbage.
>>109430299It is a start. And I have tons I can contribute.
>>109427815What model? Is it at least a Haswell-era one? How's it holding up?
>>1094347311050 came out in '16 so it's most likely some Skylake.
>>109424392Only the original fat iPods the others are e-waste since the storage isn't upgradeable
>>109434753My i7-6700K for 2015 with a GTX 970 is still good enough for work. OP still has a server farm that could be deployed for the greater good og /g/.
