What you do outside of games on Linux, /g/?
Substance Painter and Substance Designer run on Linux.
>>109421933>oh no! You won't get the privilege of getting fucked by Adobe! There are alternatives to these.
I run Clip Studio fine with bottles, I use reaper instead of FLstudio, and Davinci literally runs on linux already (But I prefer shortcut or kdenlive). Your pic is hella ass bro.
your mom
- Ghidra - configure driver for my zenscreen in “alt mode” - hugin stitching - gimp w/ my wacom (I hate gimp tho) - iterate over AI vibecoding my spec files for rpmbuild - get an itch to try i2p or some other java bs project - messing with projects like minimodem with FFTW3, lambdamoo object oriented MUD or OllyDbg’s paperback. - downloading CAD for circuit design or 3D printing and giving up immediately my Suse license expired and I stopped booting up my computer but I’m getting a new apartment soon so maybe I’ll get back onto pretending I’m a programmer again soon.
>>109423157The adobe suite runs too. Also davinci works just fine, in fact they have a native linux build that works better and has better performances/cuda integration.
>>109424485gimp fucking sucks ass though
>>109426350
>>109421933fruity loops runs totally fine retard nigger learn to use a computer
>>109421933I just use my PC to whack off and play vidyaSometimes I send an email
>>109421933>cadwhy would you need to use it on your home pc?
>>109421933programming, 3d and 2d art with free (as in freedom) open source software
>>109427061It surprisingly does but some external plugins start throwing gang signs and die randomly if they don't detect their winslop environment
>>109421933I mainly use chrome, libreoffice writer, and lm studio
>>109421933Outside of games, I:- Do online banking- Browse the web (i.e. shitpost on 4chan)- Listen to music- Chat with friends- Read manga/manhwa- Watch anime- Program for fun- Edit photos I took through the week with DarktableA few years back I owned a Scarlett and I was playing around with audio recording using Audacity, but I lost it when I moved.
>>109421933Everything?
>>109421933Davinki and blendoorThe main issue with linux is no musicbee, Clementine & co kind of suck ass
>>109421933>What you do outside of games on Linux, /g/?picrel
>>109426350Good enough for me. I don't do it professionally, but for art as a hobby I find it much better than any other one I could use. Photoshop takes up 50 gigs of hard drive space anyways, I don't need allat.
>>109425651>The adobe suite runs too.Not natively, you still need Wine for that which can come with its own issues. However Substance Painter and Substance Designer have had native Linux builds since before Adobe acquired Allegorithmic IIRC..
>>109427438wine is good, it sandboxes applications into it's own environment/registry/'filesystem'
>>109427509Does Wine support CUDA yet? A couple of Adobe apps make use of CUDA for GPU-accelerated processing.
>>109421933I've never in my life have used any of the programs in the image even when I was on Windows
Goon
I pretty much just use firefox 99% of time lmao. Been on a linux train since 2014.
>>109427528It does. I use houdini and had to copy the cuda so for the version hodini needed from my host system to the wine lib64 dir
It actually covers all my needs>shitposting>writing>jacking off to trap porn>listening to music>watching moviesAnd I guess that's it
>>109427687same
>>109421933FL actually works pretty well on linux.
>>109427765The only issue is vsts with >drm
>>109427438none of the games run either. the games on the sojak's shirt are all using proton
>>109427957Good thing about running games in Proton on Steam is that it's usually a convenient one-click-to-run solution. When you're running general software in Wine you may have to undergo manual setup, determining which internal Wine dependencies you have to install to your WINEPREFIX (such as dotnet48 and etc.), tweaking configurations and manual diagnosis.
>>109428006there is absolutely no reason to ever use wine over proton. just add your photoshop to steam and be done
>>109427892iLok is the bane of my existence for this reason. So many music production plugins use it and it's frustrating.
Chat, e-mail, view and edit documents, stream media, transfer files from le cloud and develop software.Just like what most people use computers for, minus the last one. The goalpost keeps moving, and that's fine. Because I'd like a fully featured creative suite too.But (You) are not a professional media creator. Even GIMP is bloated for your usecase.
>>109421933porn
>>109421933goon to lolies
>>109421933I can run Clip Studio, Adobe products, DVR Studio, Affinity, and Substance shit thoughtbeit.Maybe try updating your meme pic? It's not 2010 anymore.>b-but Wine/Proton doesn't count!!!!
i find it funny /g/ will shit all over graphic designers and illustrators and then 360 moonwalk into pretending to need adobe anything
>>109421933fixed
>>109421933>>109427400Basically this minus the gooning. If I need to do something in Windows, I just spin up my VM with VFIO GPU passthrough and call it done.
>>109421933Basically everything I did in windows, minus having to deal with debloating and putting up with bullshit from MicroSlop every 'update' they shit out of their gaped asses.
>>109421933I run, and help improve open source java applications that my fellow colleagues in my academic department (meteorology)
>>109421933None of these things are required for my work or hobbies.Enjoy, your productivity spyware, though.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=17T2fZSgGsU
>>109427083I use my home PC as my study PC too. I need CAD for uni every now and then.FreeCAD has been good enough for the few times I've needed it, usually just to design mounting plates or get an idea of how furniture will fit in a room. Just simple things.
>>109429373>b-but you have photogimp!!!! that's more than enough!
>>109429238does 2chan still exist?
>>109421933>Blender>KDENLive>Krita>Aseprite>Tinkercad>AudacityYou don't need more, anyone who says otherwise is a larp
>>109431269/thread
>>109429397I do wonder sometimes how much I could get away with reverting back to windows 7. Outside of gaymes and their spyware, it seems like only web browsing is the iffy thing. Half of the reports are either that its fine if you're not a retard and the other half say that evening opening a browser means you're gonna get raped by viruses >>109427438Is there a protondb equivalent for none games? The only adobe anything I give a fuck about is Photoshop 2023>>109431269Going from Logic to Audacity feels awful, I hate the UI
>>109431365>Is there a protondb equivalent for none games?https://appdb.winehq.org/
>>109431629thanks anon
>>109430421explain what photoshop does that gimp cannot. hardmode: no crying about user interface (which has nothing to do with editing images)
>>109432235The interface you have to use to edit the images has a lot to do with the effort required to edit an image with a particular goal in mind, which has something to do with editing images. Things which are obvious is photoshop are a maze of bullshit in gimp because gimp sucks.
>>109431365Most programs will be stuck on an older version, so it's situational. For me the things I use every day I have no problems with, but I keep a W10 laptop handy for the few random things that need it.You're not gonna get raped by viruses. If there is a bad enough vulnerability where that might happen MS will probably patch it even though it's out of support just like with wanacry. There are still a lot of machinery out there that cannot be upgraded from XP and 7 after all.
>>109421933Nothing. I used to tinker with distros and configs until I found a forever config. I used to do hobby projects related to linux maintenance but LLMs killed all motivation. Why bother doing anything when you can ask an LLM, go have some tea and come back to a working solution. Now I only play old games and scroll chinz.
