LOL NO! You are a zoomer who did not know how noisy a computer can get!
Only a insane madman would keep a PC in his room.
>bb--b-b-b I only turn it on when I need it
That is not how you pirate every episode of a TV series in 2004! Daily reminder that it took like 3 days to get 1 episode and the PC better be going 24/7!

What is this cope? Did they change the definition of when the generations start again?

IT is the same as
>Dude I am totally a 90s kid I was born in 1999!
OK what where your fav cartoons in 1999 that you watched on TV?

I got my own computer when I was 8. It was a pentium 3 gateway. Then I got a pentium 4 emachine when I was 10. Then they got me a 128mb ati card so I could play newer games on it. I loved rogue spear and star wars galactic battlegrounds which was just aoe2 but star wars.

OP here jesus fuck you guys.
I was expecting people to talk about their experience or what happened to the idea of a computer room instead of this shit show.

Either way I did have a computer room.
At first my dad put one in his office and basically I was the only one who used it. Then we moved and I got my own computer room. Instead of a computer in my bead room there was a separate room for my computer that I used.

This was necessary for lots of things, I did keep the computer running 24/7 mostly to download things from the internet 2004 these where the days! Then as a habit and to do stuff like let my blender animations render overnight.

Did others have a experience like that?
>>109430645

It was incredible and mind blowing.
The freedom was unimaginable.
You literally did have newspaper stands IRL with CDs in them you collected installers for interesting programs. Before the internet the world was gigantic like it was this endless adventure and you never knew what new programs you can find, PC games where mind blowing. Like literally mind blowing. Totaly difernet ideas every game. And you wounder yourself
>What new program is there?
>What else can they come up?
And remember no internet you can not google
>10 Most popular/useful programs
It was like pokemon IRL!

Never mentioning friends who tell you about pirated games and you getting pirated stuff IRL.

And games did not stay forever once they get out of the store there was no real way to buy them. SO after you see some advert to buy a gold version of a classic from 5 years ago you do that.

It was like pokemon IRL. And the freedom! There was no windows defender telling you that
>REEEE EXE blocked because it is not signed from the microsoft store!

You can run anything and windows says nothing. Windows was totally un-intrusive unlike today.

I think the best part of it all was that you can run anything no questions asked and there is no build in antivirus into windows. Actually you needed to get a separate antivirus program on CD!

And because people did not have anything of importance on their PCs you haver hilarious stories of people fucking over their PCs I once installed that thing from some porn website and it basically blocked any internet connections except to itself.

And this is why people are nostalgic for the old times for the windows 95 and windows XP eras Also windows 7 however after 7 things simply got stupid.

Was Dad gooning while the rest of us ate dinner?

Our computer was in the basement, my Mom's room was down there before she left but the computer was in the larger den. I'd hop on after school and read about Animorphs and Hobbits and play java applet games. I'd browse forums and read news articles for school. The forums often had chat rooms too, and I'd hang out there with kids that were older than me by a couple years, role playing being cool otherworldly characters. I learned the difference between lan and wan after posting
 <img src="C:/Users/BobBilby/coolpics.jpg">
and getting "hacked". I remember my mom correctly "guessing" what "ploms" meant and getting embarassed and lying about it. I got an online girlfriend and called her long distance and she talked about Quake for an hour and that was the end of that relationship. It was a $300 bill, I don't remember if the phone company removed it. I once installed a strip poker program that billed by the minute and that got refunded quickly when they found out I was 11. When I had the basement to myself I'd stay up way too late, usually finishing writing assignments at midnight or 1 am. That was actually really fun, I'd put on music I grabbed from Napster or Limewire or whatever and just write and revise and try to get to 2000 words in Word. Then use the grammar tool and thesaurus to get a 12.0 grade level. My friends would come over and we'd play browser games like Candystand mini golf and Family Feud, I can't tell if flash and applet games were better then or if I was just a kid. Being in the basement was gold, so was having a second phone line, I never got kicked off and I could tell from the floor creaks where the adults were. Win95/98 was such ass though, especially online, most of my BSoD restarts were from websites especially chat rooms for some reason.

the oldest zoomzooms are ~30 and the youngest are ~15, I'm gen y myself, my brother is early zoomzoom and we pretty much had the same childhood, same movies, games, musics, consoles, etc, we should really stop using zoomers to talk about the new generation.
the fortnite/roblox/tiktok gen is the gen alpha.

The family's PC was in my older sister's room, so we had to share it. Sometimes I would go to her room, while she was sleeping... and boot the PC to play some vidya. Yep. And she would get mad, because I would wake her up from the noise.

My first experience with PCs was in my dad's office around the age of 6. They mostly used Unix and were moving to apple. Then my dad brought 2 PCs one when I was around i they were Apple. One of the pc wen to my room the other to his studio. Then I saw hacker's and really got into pcs. I actually phone freaked payphones in my country in the mid 90s. Pretty cool time then we switched to windows and IBM. I still remember my first laptop I was around 12 or 13.it was a Texas instruments laptop. I was truly blessed.
>>
>>109426071
'01 zoomer here, yeah I remember that. It was mostly used by my father for work, all I used the family laptop for was Wikipedia or printing out stuff (also Wikipedia) for school
>>
>>109434569
I was obsessed with payphones as a child in the mid 90s. Autism, I know. When I finally discovered phreaking txt files on the internet it was like a bomb went off in my brain. I discovered multiple things that worked on the payphones in my town and would loiter around them for hours with my friends making prank calls. Jerky Boys mp3s inspired a lot of that. Not having a computer in those early days and exploring the phone system instead probably did a lot to make me more creative.
>>
>>109434569
But did you play games
>>
>>109426071
Sure, my family had the only internet connected PC in one for a while, then my dad installed ethernet in the rest of the house. Me and may siblings were lucky enough to have a computer in our bedrooms, but thats mostly because my dad worked for a tech company that upgraded pretty much every year, so we always had last years office PCs with a GPU thrown in them.

After seeing how awful tablets or smartphones are in the hands of kids I think I'm fully behind only letting them use a computer in a family room. At least you can (kind of) manage them then.
>>
>>109427318
Noisy? Computers didn't used to have fans. Only Boise came from the buzzer and ambient electronics noises.

Kek, fun times I remember find a few forums around 97. I would listen in on calls. Make free calls among other stupid shit. Like making the phone ring.

Yes, if I remember correctly the first game I played was prince of Persia. I believe this was around 93. Give or take a year.

Is this what steamines get for blowing all their money on games they never play on steam?
>>
>>109426071
computer rooms were usually offices, family computers were more often in the living room or dining room rather than a dedicated room. really down to if your parents used a computer for work or not, if not, then it won't have it's own room
>>
>>109429580
he was technically correct, computers don't become slower over time, it was as fast as it was in 1995 :)
>>
>>109426071
Nah, there was almost always a computer in my room. Since we weren't living in the US, our house did not have 40 000 sqft for three people and therefore no dedicated computer room.

Red pill me on this of sanpai. I did hear about it and it did sound like a blast.

I love to know how it was since it sounds like a amazing idea.
>No globohomo CCTV cameras in the city
>Anonymouse since it is a payphone

I have a theory that the real hacking was before the internet.
Use phone system to basically call a number that has some computer plugged into it.
Business did not set up any passwords because they did not expect anyone to call this number.
Literally like walking into a factory for shits and giggles.
Company can not do shit because tracing the call results in a payphone and no CCTV to the payphone.

Was it like this or even better? Where do I learn this forgotten history?

Well my friend did once call in a bomb threat to a business that was in some big building in Chicago that resulted in a police response. Thankfully I left before they came. He hid in the woods and got away. We weren't so lucky the time he was dumb enough to call 911. That's what happens when your friends are total dickheads lmao.

I wasn't very knowledgeable at that age. I picked up more later on. Maybe 2 years later I understood what an ANI failure is and potential ways to cause one. I also knew about ANAC numbers like 1-800-444-4444 by that time.

So that's a big gap in knowledge between me in the year 2000 and me in the year 2002. In 2000 I just knew that at the payphone in this empty lot where a gas station used to be (it burned down) would give a free local call if I dialed something free (800 number, operator) and waited like one minute after they hung up. After I moved to a different town instead of COCOTs I had Ameritech/SBC/AT&T payphones and could redbox on them until they fixed that.
>>
Now about the red boxing. I never had one of those modified Radio Shack tone dialers that were so famous back in the day. I had a Creative Nomad Jukebox mp3 player. I got the wav files for redbox tones off the internet then I'd use my cracked copy of Cool Edit to put the tones together in the order needed to simulate the right coins to place specific calls. That's a lot easier than trying to play the tone for a quarter repeatedly or whatever.

Zoomer has been 1997-2012 since before we even coined the term "zoomer"
If you dont remember 9/11, you're a zoomer

We always had the desktop in the corner of either the living room or family room. Dad even set up a KVM switch because he wanted his own PC with Vista and a TV tuner card. We used the PC with XP.
>>
>>109437744
The gen-x/millennial divide is in the mid eighties. Zoomers weren't born in the 90s, they started early-mid 2000s. A generation is roughly 20 years with the boomers starting at the end of ww2 in the mid 40s.
