They dominated GPUs and now are on the AI and OEM path while leaving end users lacking features and performance.
>>109427274They're a business like any other. Good guy AMD is not your friend and neither is Jenson Leather Jacket Man.Just buy the best GPU at the best price for your use-case.
>>109427274there's nothing wrong with them if you don't care about goytracing and goylss
People who dislike AMD are gaymer losers on windows. If you ever used Linux or FreeBSD you'd know that AMD drivers are better, you don't really have to install them and they work out of the box. And AMD is actually more performant for Linux. Also for stuff like X-Plane AMD is arguably better.
>>109427297If you get a 9070 XT it's actually great at ray tracing. It sucks at path tracing though.
>>109427297>goytacing and goylssI don't even do gaming, but can't stand their shitty RoCM stack
>>109427301ROCm is just a custom fork of LLVM with a couple of extra libraries. If you can't stand it then you probably don't even understand the thing you're criticising. It's perfectly fine as long as your hardware is supported. They're slowly addressing the hardware support issue too:https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-ROCm-SPIR-V-Reality-2026
>>109427274>What went so wrongIt didn't. It's just their strategy
>>109427299It's not 2016 anymore. AMD GPUs only have driverse ootb as if you didn't even install packages after first boot.Nvidia is flawless nowadays. GPU crashes on AMD are not rare either.>>109427319That's the thing with AMD, they're always "going to", "working on". I but a GPU to do stuff, not to think about what might be able to do.
>>109427299>People who dislike AMD are gaymer losers on windows.Yeah I am a free-chad till using an RX580 simply because the very few games I play on Linux dont need more than an RX580.
>>109427274Sneaky chink boss who's related to the other sneaky chink boss. AMD and Nvidia are two cheeks of the same ass.>>109427327>Nvidia is flawless nowadaysYou're a fucking retard who has no idea what they're talking about.
>>109427327>I but a GPU to do stuff, not to think about what might be able to do.If you buy a new AMDGPU it will support ROCm. The people that bang on about the hardware support are people with old Radeon VII cards, etc, that would still like to use it.
>>109427299>you don't really have to install themwhat a bizarre take
>>109427274I've used AMD gpus for around ten years now and never really had a problem with them (other than shit not supporting AMD which isn't really their fault) until very recently with my 7900xtx when I had to roll back several generations of drivers to stop random crashes. Now it's completely fine, but having to figure that out was a pain in the ass, and fuck knows when it'll be safe to update again.
Power hungry flagships. 7900xtx traded blows with the 4080S but needed ~19% more electricity. Also, bad press and public perception of their drivers and software support (moreso for windows games, I know amd have great Linux driver).
>>109427287This, AMD is not customer friendly anymore. This is why I bought Nvidia, if both company is bad you might as well buy the better product.
>>109427299Truth Nuke, also RADV is coming to windows.
>>109427297Blender heavily uses ray tracing.
>>109427336>>109427340Samefag>If you buy a new AMDGPU it will support ROCm.Is not about GPUs supporting RoCM, but RoCM not supporting shit, if it was assured that X thingy will be supported with good performance, sure, it just works, but often it isn't the case. Even if they have been adding support lately with shitty performance, does not change the fact they spent a decade not caring about it. Tried to cheap out by paying a developed for zluda, went south, then tried releasing orochi, it just flopped. Now they're finally doing development themselves but mostly they stay on promises, it will need YEARS yet, Radeon is playing catching up.Remember when AMD users were so against AI and now they're sucking its cock? Don't give me the bullshit AMD listen to their customers.>>109427487>RADV is coming to WindowsBut is not there TODAY, is it?
what is this for
>>109427274cousin business deals
>>109427635costing (you) 92 watts
>>109427635It could be good for media encoding.
>>109427274The problem is that they're competing directly with Nvidia which are steering the GPU and 3d industry in a direction that benefits them and disadvantages AMD at every turn
>>109427660>AMD>ENCODINGYou're way better off with Apple and Intel for that.
>>109427299I agree that AMD drivers are best when AMD themselves are not writing them
>>109427672Idiot.
>>109427274They're still making a good buck from consoles.
>>109427274Zen happened and they chose to deprioritize Radeon since every 1mm2 of silicon sold as an epyc or x3d CPU earns them 10x-100x more in revenue
>>109427594>Is not about GPUs supporting RoCM, but RoCM not supporting shit, if it was assured that X thingy will be supported with good performance, sure, it just works, but often it isn't the case. That's not exactly AMD's fault though. They maintain forks of some stuff but a lot of things are on the community to support just as they do for NVIDIA.
>>109427686stay mad
>>109427594>But is not there TODAY, is it?No and I don't care about your gay brand worshiping. My old rig has an Intel CPU and an Nvidia card, my current rig has AMD x AMD. I was just replying to the Gnu/Linux / BSD anon. And apparently RADV is decent and they want to port it to WIndows.

>>109427660Intel ARC is better

>>109427274Nothing, my 9070 XT is great
>>109427274Nothing went wrong—AI is just more profitable. If you want better support you have to compete in the free market for it—there is no free lunch.

>>109429429>9250No shit, it's a passively cooled bottom tier 64-bit garbage. 9800 Pro and later the XT were raping Nvidia so hard it woke Huang up, and beginning with the Geforce 8 series, ATI/AMD never won the performance crown again in the same generation.
>>109427274>They dominated GPUsLOL
>>109427274Ryzens give more margins to AMD (74mm2 chiplets are easy to manufacture so they are extremely cheap to produce but they can sell it at very high price, especially for EPYCs) so they focus on that instead. That's all that happened. GPUs and APUs all got shafted. For APUs it's so bad they keep using RDNA3.5 for something like 2030, which sucks because the 8600G is finally good enough, just one more speed jump and it would be perfect.
>>109427299outdated copypasta. I use asrock 7900xtx on gentoo and the fucking amdgpu driver does not reveal the fan_control API even with all power profile features enabled. Absolute peice of shit wants to cook itself, idles at 60° C.On the other hand, I also run a 5070 ti with LACT on Fedora and could not be happier with its performance.
>>109427274>They dominated GPUsNani?
>>109429519>>109431908Yes, they rape NVIDIA in open source.
>>109427274What caused Radeon to decline? I use Linux so I just go with AMD GPUs and CPUs for things to work.Really if Nvidia made their drivers open source to be as linux compatible as AMD, then AMD would be a lot more trouble. I'd buy an Nvidia after that.
