So apparently this is the grown man's Linux, but why does its file explorer be such awkward trash?

i truly hate the trend of replacing a tree view in the left pane with a "favorites/places" menu. what if i want to move files in a directory to arbitrary places on my filesystem? i guess the expectation is that i'm going to open a new tab, navigate all the way to the target directory, then do this for every directory i want to move files to? just fucking retarded. a lot of linux file managers are moving to this approach by default, but least some of them still retain a tree view option (although in dolphin at least, it's obvious it's an afterthought)
>>
In an ideal world I'd be able to use Linux for everything, but macOS is currently the only alternative to Windows that's seamlessly compatible with the pro apps I use.
>>
>>109429029
As usual, this once OK piece of software was gradually turned into utter shit by designers... these people need to keep earning money, which is why all UI / UX is constantly spiraling down the drain just like a fucking turd before being flushed. God I hate designers

explorer on windows, and third-party replacements for it, is/were the only good file browsers to have ever existed. Mac's is disorganized trash pretending to be more organized than the actual file tree, and every file browser on linux has trashy bugs, sloppily implemented features, and/or missing features altogether.

in my experience the power menu and related keyboard shortcuts stop working after ~20 days of uptime
i have to use the terminal to restart the mac

I noticed a long time ago how much GNU and Linux people love to take credit for the merits of Unix and its descendants. Honestly despicable if intentional, but I often assume it's just ignorance (mostly inherited/parroted from precedent).

I wish. It's been dead for half a century now and almost everyone drags its winning corpse with them. I'll be dead before something else gains traction in the OS space.
>>
>>109429727
GNU is in the family tree—Linux is not in any relevant way. That said, GNU apes Unix so taking credit for the work of Thompson et al. is disingenuous at best.

Its not even necessarily that Gnome was copying MacOS. UX designers are not confined to organizational boundaries. The same people who designed MacOS designed Gnome and all the other hideous UX. UX designers are a distinct people separate from the rest of humanity. They have their own beliefs and customs, utterly detached from normal people.

The Mac's original lead dev created Gnome's file browser. Not making this up.

>So apparently this is the grown man's Linux, but why does its file explorer be such awkward trash?
It really isn't that's just cope, it's better in many aspects than Linux, which could be fixed by just switching development to FreeBSD. But yeah it's still {{{UNIX}}}.
This one of those places where slopix design comes into place. "the program has to do one job and do it well" i.e make a graphical version of "ls" anything more isn't 'one job'.
