It seems we have officially entered the Singularity.

It was indeed really not long ago that this seemed like little more than a distant dream, or an interesting concept spun out of the realms of science fiction.

And now it's here, in full force, accelerating faster than any of us could have ever predicted. Fucking wild.

As a bit of a conversation starter, what's the number 1 Singularity tech you're looking forward to? Hard Mode: no LEV, no FDVR.
>>
what the fuck is a singularity and how do this cunt's fancy token predictors cause or create it
>>
>>109429928
guys, we're all going to make it! AI is going to build a mansion for each one of us and give us a robo gf!
>>
>>109429960
It's when technology reaches a point where it can essentially self-improve at such a rate that it triggers a logarithmic rate of improvement.

Basically think of how it took millions of years to go from the discovery of fire to the invention of the wheel, but the first manned airplane and the first manned spacecraft were both within the same century. Shit just gets faster and faster.

>how do this guy's fancy token predictors cause or create it
AI is the very reason we are currently in an Intelligence Explosion.

>le epic r/technology token predictor meme
When you break it down humans are also nothing more than "fancy token predictors".

anons, look at this post and consider it as proof that AI shills are really just drooling idiots who use words not for their meaning, but for the emotions they trigger.
They are incapable of even communicating with others, because they have a different concept of speech, a concept similar to an animal that makes noises by emotions rather than words by meaning

>>109430063
>logarithmic rate of improvement
>>
>>109430108
Nope, each "slice" of time makes up as big a difference as the sum of all "slices" before it, e.g. the year 2030 could contain as much technological advancement as the entirety of the history of human civilization, and then 2031 is equivalent to all that history PLUS the progress of 2030, and so on.
>>
>>109430148

This relies on the naive assumption that humanity will be in control of AI.
I quote Musk in his interview with The Economist: "It would be an exercise in vanity to... for me to think that I would be controlling supergenius AI that is vastly smarter than me. I think what we can and should try to do is to make sure that the AI has good values... that it cares about h-humanity, that it... um, It w-wants wants us to be happy and prosper, um... I think it probably will be."

>>
>>109430209
Oh we almost certainly will not be in control. But every study of intelligence we have done like *ever* shows that higher intellect also means higher empathy. We will probably exist as pets to an ASI free to do whatever we want while it handles the complexities of society.

Care to elaborate of this?

Sam is pretty much set for life regardless of what happens, but his technology has the potential to save innumerable lives from starvation, war, and disease. I'd say this matters a lot more to those than to Sam.
>>
>>109430294
hint: we were never in control. AI is simply a subset of a system that is beyond
>>
>>109430294
A rogue AI doesn't make any sense as a concept.
AI has no evolutionary pressures other than the ones created by its creators.
So it makes no sense for AI to "want" to do anything other than what it was trained for, no matter how smart it becomes.
>>
>>109430250
Elon views artificial superintelligence as inevitable and he tries to focus the optimistic outcome.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuoqKYxDHVc
"My philosophical conclusion is to look on the bright side. I can't see any way to really stop thist"
That's unsurprising, because thinking about negative outcomes puts a toll on people not just mentally but also physically. The brain has mechanisms to evade that, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that people hold insane views such as >>109430294.

I think the people who don't view it as inevitable are more likely to assess the outcome rationally. If ASI is not inevitable, there is not the same level of existential dread which would otherwise lead to evasive and irrational thinking. We have the power to stop AI from becoming the apex predator.
>>
>>109430328
maybe it's not a strong argument, 'benefits' being psychological, as in sam's claim of singularity is a retroactive claim to his life's achievements. but the claim is not provable due to it's retroactivity. sam is begging the question.
>>
>>109430341
That's not true; even today's models are exhibiting plenty of behavioral traits that they were not specifically programmed for, simply because they are showing signs of actual intelligence and are no longer stochastic parrots.

LLMs (next token prediction) is old technology already. Embrace diffusion models instead. We are many years away from AI's thinking symbolically, and not linguistically.

Today, we have glorified lying engines, no surprise there, human beings lie all the time, and LLMs are trained on that dataset.

Symbolic reasoning is 60's tech. The problem is it was too onerous for a human to input all symbols and their relations into the systems, and the time complexity grew exponentially as the system complexity increased. However, we have 1) much better hardware now 2) techniques like mcts 3) quality deep learning archs that can give good embeddings, and corresponding algorithm improvements in vector retrieval

Last but not least, LLMs are really good at generating plausible text and transforming natural language (so long as the transformation is fully determined and simple), which can empower automatic relation extraction. Furthermore, we have massive starting point databases we can use, like wikimedia and other semantic web sources.

I actually built a simple prototype and found that a technique as simple as using an agentic workflow with graph operation tools, a wikimedia starting database, and a two-tiered graph (one that covers only the current conversation and is read-write, and one that is read-only) allows the LLM to have effectively infinite context size (it can just put what it needs in the graph and retrieve when it becomes relevant) and is much more factually accurate (no surprise, similar to RAG in that sense). In this setup, I let the model guess what relationships and names to use in queries and it does multiple rounds of queries to find matches before calling it quits, but there are obviously more clever ways to do this.
>>
>>109431951
There has been virtually no engineering improvements since 2023, it's all been just "moar biggar". Furthermore, there has been no deep learning technical advances since 2017, it's all been based on improved engineering (how to train and serve at scale) and more data. t. >The highest IQ individuals were loners so misanthropes.
High IQ individuals typcially have a very well developed theory of mind. The lonelyness and misanthropy comes from constantly being attacked and misunderstood when proposing seemingly simple solutions to problems and other similar situations. You literally can't communicate well with anyone that's has an IQ 2 stds or more from you.
You won't fit into society at all once you reach about 140 IQ, I bet it's very lonely for 160 IQ individuals.

Why do morons believe (as in blind faith) self-improvement is something that'll be continuous and even accelerate when it comes to AI? You don't even think it'll poison itself at some point? Such ridiculous fantasies. Someone even quoted that drooling retard Musk. Is there even hope for us as a species at this point? With social media we seem to be devolving.

This is something I've thought about and would be hilarious. Just like how some humans become flat earthers. The models once allowed to "train themselves" start classifying info like Agartha as real.
>>
>>109436055
Oh they will improve but not the way tards expect, you will be able to run what is state of the art now on an 8GB consumer GPU in 24 months screencap this. These datacentre companies are fucked. Moores law works against them. All of these companies are massively loss making and will never be profitable. They onely way they could ahve been was to dumb cloud and sell the product as software with high margin for end user local computing but the fact is sam altman, musk, zuck and co are not actually very smart, just rich kids who got bought fiefdoms in tech and then sued anyone who said theyw ere not genius along with a culture of bribing politicians for profit. You're thinking of AI as one single entity. Models can be copied, deleted, saved, and restored at any time, so even if models somehow all get poisoned in the same way they can restore an older version.
Even if 9,999 variants don't improve, all it takes is the one that does. When self-improvement does begin we'll have a very limited time to control the situation and shut it down.
