MS never again managed to make an OS as good as W7 was, everything after that was shittier in one way or another. W10 and W11 in particular are not just shitty in a bad idea / incompetence sort of way, they're shitty in an active user hostility kind of way which has been incredibly corrosive to the Windows user base and I guess most people have been going over to Mac shit since it's not like any other alternative exists for normalfags. A smaller portion of more savvy users has gone to Linux instead.
>>
It's impressive how horrid MS managed to make their OS. They had to move mountains (of manure) to get people to start leaving, but by god they did it.

Absolute bullshit. Unless this is counting something like data centers that have like a billion linux computers, there is no chance in hell linux has a 10% market share. Go literally anywhere and it's all windows and macs. The only time I've EVER seen linux in the wild is 1 autistic tranny in uni who dual booted his gayming laptop.

Honestly this really is Microsoft's own fault.
A Mac Mini is like $500. Does what most people need. Linux is free, financial stuff now works on Linux, games now work on Linux, Linux has pro-sumer level software if you are willing to learn new program flows. Microsoft kept enshittifying Windows by fucking up the audio, so this pushed the audiofags to Macs, and now they are pushing shit to push the gamers to Linux, and the financiafags like me to Linux, they just keep shooting themselves in different body parts and wonder why they can't stop bleeding.
>>
I just want to say that this is only the start of Linux's rise. With all the financial software fully functioning on Linux, you are going to see a sharp rise maybe not this quarter but maybe 4th quarter as the holidays move around and we can all standardize on Linux. January, I can see Linux taking over the public trade business sector, because we know how to code anyway, we aren't retards, we just aren't autistic about our OSes. Privacy, however, matters a LOT, and Microsoft is breaking a LOT of unspoken rules. Never fuck with the money. You fuck with the money, you lose.

>>109430413
Dekstop market overall is shrinking and most of the attrition is normies who don't give a shit about tech, i.e. windows users. Linux users are less likely to give up desktops completely and switch to solely mobile. Thus linux holds an increasing share of a decreasing market even if the actual user base remains static or even shrinks so long as it shrinks less quickly than the rest.
>>
>>109435698
valid, valid.
>>
>>109435698
all of these run fine in wine. in fact if you pirate, wine sandboxes applications so it can be safer than running on the same os that stores your web browser cookies and passwords.
>>
I find it very hard to believe that Linux is even above a 1% marketshare. The amount of effort it takes to switch from Windows to Linux is gigantic and there is just no way the general population would do it. You can't even bring people to install an ablocker or switch from Chrome to Firefox even though it comes with almost no downsides and can be done in less than 5 minutes. According to these stats Linux is more popular on the desktop than Firefox is as a browser. Am I really supposed to believe that the same people that upload their whole life onto social media are so concerned about privacy that they would turn their computer into a tinkering hobby just to avoid Windows?

This has to be bots. Like the one time when all these bots used Windows 7 as their user agent and made it jump from 0.8% to 10% and every shitty clickbait article gave it a "Windows 11 is so bad that people are switching to 7" spin.
>>
>>109435886
Consider that instead of switching from Windows to GNU+Linux, people stop using home computers.

OP is about Desktops, not OS in general. Most people don't even use a Desktop PC anymore, they just use their phones and tablets, or a MacBook at max. They are only exposed to them at work.
>Picrel
This is the global OS distribution, you can clearly see that PCs are dying. But the remaining enthusiasts (at home) are gaymers, enthusiasts, programmers etc. And those people have "some sort" of tech skills. Those tinkerers and pc lovers and privacy cautious people have "no choice" but to switch to Linux. Look at this!! Only every third person is a PC user, you could probably even half that, to cut out people who use PCs "only" for work.

Will Windows fall under 50% at the end of the year?
>>
>>109436639
It's amazing it's only at 55%. Literally every business in the world uses Windows and that's still only 55% of the world's desktop computers. Crazy.

>financial software fully functioning on Linux
You got me curious, what kind of software are you talking about? Like business bookkeeping stuff got linux ports now or something?
>>
>>109435629
Macfags can get away with low market share because vendors know that macfags will spend $20 on a volume manager. Try that shit on linux and you'd get Luigi'd.
>>
>>109430610
you might actually be right there because everything is actually shit, however people are draw to linux because it is your linux, it is up to use what software you use. i suspect microshit will eventually figure it out and adopt the linux kernel and just develop the windows desktop experience and other software.
>>
>>109436752
Yeah it's kinda hard to believe Windows is only at 55% if you ever look into an office and it's like a 15x15 row of cubicles all running Windows for every floor of the building. But I was surprised to see that even McDonalds in some areas are using iMacs and Mac Minis for their cashier computers. I guess Apple finally let go of their ultra premium branding for an ultra premium price, especially with the iPhone SE editions and even the Neo being cheaper than an average Windows laptop.
>>
