Hey /wsr/. new here. Couldn't find a C++ general thread so starting one.Started learning C++ a couple of weeks ago using a video tutorial. It was really clear and easy to grasp, but I had Claude throw together a roadmap for me which highlighted a bunch of gaps in my knowledge. How did you guys learn C++? How long did it take you to get decent, and what books would you recommend?
>>109430517i learned by banging my head against the wall and learning to read other projects code on github, mostly game engines.learning cmake and the various compilers was also helpful. arguably more helpful than learning the language.im excited for c++26.
>>109430517I've been writing C++ for 15 years and I still suck at it. The language is a clusterfuck.
>>109430517Hey new, Michael here.
>>109430584wow, how did you get to that point—specifically to learning it and what do you work as—and not to the conclusion that the language sucks?
>>109430565great bro, thanks <3
>>109430517This looks like my dad
>>109430584There is something really wrong with you. People don't struggle for so much time, five years at most for the average coder and a decade for cases with developmental disability.
