The main idea is that the tip goes directly to the worker, rather than being collected by the business and redistributed later. In many restaurants, all tips are pooled and the employer decides how they're split. TipIns gives customers the option to tip an individual employee directly if that's what they want.

It also works well for people who don't have a payment terminal, such as street performers, musicians, buskers, tour guides and market stall operators. They can simply display a printed QR code on a sign or banner and people can tip them instantly.

this is a layer of friction which the customer doesn't want and the business doesn't want to put in front of the customer. i can see that a venmo-for-tips is a good product to pitch investors but in the real world it sucks.
if you are out for a meal and the waiter says "here is your bill and a qr code to tip me" that is a shit experience as a customer and is unfavourable for the business. if the business is collecting tips and allocating them, using this app is still an extra layer of friction from having a pile of cash and putting in different piles to give to people. how does the physically collected cash get into the app to distribute? another layer of friction. you collect cash tips. even credit card tips become cash at some point.
the core issue is that customers don't want two transactions.

the business decides tips are pooled if they are pooled and the worker agrees to that and if the worker gets a "keep this for yourself" tip which happens, they should still pool them because that is the system.

ok i can see that use case, but you're competing against big brands and outside of the US with online banking apps. but still someone using a qr code it doesn't matter what the recipient is if they trust the qr code.

wouldn't they have a payment app to receive payments for their goods? if you are buying a $15 sourdough loaf at a farmers market or some artisanal crockery, why would you tip them?
