Wikipedia's developers are telling wiki owners to ban Windows 7 users as "bot traffic". And other open source projects are doing the same.

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Handling_web_crawlers

It looks like in the fight to eliminate bots we threw out the open internet with the bathwater. I've already mentioned how independent browsers like Netsurf, Seamonkey, Pale Moon and Lynx are blocked on most sites now, with even "open source" websites are doing it.

Meanwhile the old Internet Explorer is seen as a literal virus by the internet now.

This has no actual effect because not only do the latest versions of Chromium already run on Windows 7, they also automatically report Windows 10. It's a nothingburger that only matters if you browse Wikipedia through Internet Explorer.
>>
>>109435728
>Windows 7 users banned
>Bot traffic decreased by 0.0001%
>A lot of poor people mad probably
Wow such efficiency
>>
>>109435728
I have wikipedia as a zim on my offline LAN with windows 7 and XP machines. That's a zimiof wikipedia befor a load of wierd english troons and niggers and faggots powered by AI slop along with chang and the kremlin started turning it into a joke.
>>
>>109435728
lulz, get fucked niggers
>>
>>109435728
Reality as soon as browns and other living in dictatorships could 'contribute' to editing knowledge bases on the internet along with normie educational failures wikipedia was over. The AI dicatorslop bots are just the cherry on top. Blaming win7 get's you nowhere, the problem was always the compromised and politicised editors. I'm a historian and I have seen entire chapters of history erased by vandals and editors. Wikipedia deserves to die, it's time is over and it was never very good. The whole wikiconcept is based on name and admin faggotry which always stagnates to ineptitude and extreme bias
>>
>>109435728
What's the matter, are you having trouble assaulting wikipedo with your botnet, marina?
>>
>>109435728
I have noticed Wikipedia IP range blocks often mirror 4chan’s blocks. Obviously 4chan and Wikipedia abuse may often come from the same nuts. If you are getting blocked when using niche browsers see if they have a setting to change their User Agent string to a more common brower
>>
Who even uses Wikipedia these days?
>>
>>109436367
Bots that make you read regurgitated wiki articles in their AIs.
>>
>>109435728
LMFAO, my fucking sides. KEK. Thanks for the news X'D ilusfm
>>
right, bot owners are masking their crawles as win7 machines, sure, totes, mhm.
>>
>>109435728
Bots are using outdated user agent strings because... reasons?
>>
open source is doomed because its run by tranny retards (that always end up simping for big corporations)
>>
>>109435728
>*relies on user-agents*
mediawiki is literally run by tech illiterate chimpanzees throwing shit at the wall. not waiting for something to stick, just throwing shit at the wall and staring mindlessly at it while it piles up on the floor.

>>109439002
>why yes, I am more fucking retarded than any single mediawiki contributor
communism really a disease of the mind
>>
>>109435728
my grandma still dailies laptop that's running on windows 7.
>>
>The generally most foolproof way to deal with massive amounts of unwanted traffic is to have one's site handled by a content delivery network (CDN) such as Akamai, Cloudflare, Amazon CloudFront, Fastly and Google Cloud CDN.

>AI companiesSome of the largest AI companies deploying crawlers with their publicly disclosed user-agents:

so they're using AI companies to block traffic from... AI companies?

>Proof-of-work
>Another approach is to use proof-of-work to force every browser to do a small computation before viewing any page; this causes negligible inconvenience for regular users, but (presumably) significant inconvenience for large-scale bots and scrapers. This is a somewhat controversial solution, because it is overall taxing on compute power, with associated environmental harms.
>with associated environmental harms.
As opposed to AI? Wtf is this propaganda?

Also what does blocking outdated browsers or OSes have to do with blocking bots? Uses old tech, therefore is bot? How does this follow? A bot can easily change the user-agent.
>>
>>109439312
these fucking idiots are relying on traffic to come from certain IP ranges/hosts/etc and user-agents. It's like they truly believe they have mastered the internet and have the solution. meanwhile i'm able to bypass all of their filters effortlessly. when you have a project this large full of people whos expertise with computer security is frantic google searching for open source projects, then you know they are already beyond help at this stage. also, you can download the entire wikipedia anyway if bot owners wanted to train ai. shit is open source for fucks sake. wikimedia foundation truly is run by the dullest fucking morons we could possibly witness. they did far too little too late.
>>
>>109435728
Windows users banned as a whole when? Wikipedia should know better to choose GNU/Linux over Windows.

Based. Total baby duck death.
>>
>>109439572
no, just user agents coming from certain ip ranges, based on what ai corporations are currently using. mediawiki are geniuses. they think multi billion dollar corporations don't know how to change user agents or move to clean IP ranges to avoid their extremely low effort filtering. don't forget to donate to wikipedia to help finance jimmy wales' tax free lifestyle
>>
>>109435728
well "independent browsers" should have had the feature to allow custom user-agent strings 20 years ago.
>>
wikipedia also started blocking images for browsers with no referer header about a year ago, so clearly its management has gone insane.
>>
why would you scrape wikipedia when you can just download the thing?
>>
>>109442131
you're asking a lot from bots that are just smart enough to recursively follow urls.
>>
>>109439605
dawwww
>>
>>109442131
That doesn't work for breaking news
>>
You ever tried to download it? Used to be easy, now it's a nightmare.
>>
*switches user agent*
heh, nothin personnel...
>>
>>109436367
Anyone who wants more about a topic than the 2 paragraphs of facts peppered with hallucinated bullshit that the AI tells you.
>>
>>109435728
Is cuz they need to kill any proof the pld world exosted to gove riae to their new technofeudal always online edge devoce hell
>>
>>109442358
>reading more than two paragraphs of wikipedia
you are precisely the halfwit you're accusing that anon of being
do better research
>>
>>109444794
The idea is you read it as an intro to the topic, and use the cited sources for more on any given thing in it.
>>
>>109435728
people using windows 7 actually makes these faggots so mad lmao
>>
>>109435728
They are worried about some bots but not AI? Dumb clowns.
>>
>>109445954
they know their entire wiki has been fed into ai bots. site and db is open source and free to download. they're trying to stop shitty web crawlers hitting every page and costing wikipedia money. and since wikipedia make tens of millions of dollars each year and only spend a tiny percentage of that on hosting and bandwidth, what they're doing is locking down the entire site in order for wikimedia foundation to remain profitable.

a non-profit trying to be profitable. it's a clown world we live in and their non-profit status needs to be stripped from the foundation.
>>
just fork wikipedia instead
>>
>>109442358
>This nigga still thinks AI hallucinates
Either you're on the shitty free tier (which seldom hallucinates as of late, anyway) or you haven't used it in quite a while & think your opinion is still relevant to today
>>
>>109447656
Elon, if you don't stop posting this shit I am going to mass organize a blue sky migration
>>
>>109451757
>this nigga thinks it doesn't
lmao
>>
>>109435728
This just seems like security theater to me. Its trivially easy to spoof your OS, any browser worth its salt lets you change your user agent.

HILARIOUSLY stupid

literally is just that. wikimedia foundation have no idea what they're doing.
