I've been thinking about picking up an e-ink reader, but I can't decide if they're actually worth the money or just another gadget that ends up sitting in a drawer. For the people who own one, was it worth the purchase? Do you actually read more because of it, or did the novelty wear off? I keep getting hit with ads on youtube for the Xteink line of readers but the fact that it lacks a front light screen reminds me of trying to play my gameboy at night as a kid and that shit fucking sucked.

I would honestly just recommend the Kindle line because they're the best ones in terms of battery, build and case/cover/accessories support. If you manage to jailbreak a Kindle you can install extensions and KOReader which a lot of people swear by. So in the case you do get bored of reading you can hack or repurpose the device.I don't know much about the Xteink other than the fact that they're still stuck in sold out prototypesI currently own a Kobo but I kind of stopped using it because the highlights export tool (the one thing I care about ereaders) sucks balls and KOReader eats the battery on Kobos like candy
>>109440680i have owned 4 and each one was at the time the best purchase i had ever made i got a sony one in 2005ish, then a kindle in 2014ish, then a kobo in 2020 and now a hibreak in 2026. they all still work, but i have the sony in a box somewhere and the kindle i gave to a friend. anyway overall i have probably saved tens of thousands in books and had a more comfortable experience reading during that time. they have a backlight (not the sony, that has a light on a semi rigid wire, you know what i mean) so you can use better reading positions and dont have to fuck around with a lamp or flashlight. battery life is a couple days, the kobo and the kindle i basically only ever charged when i was importing books. if you actually read you should consider them. if you get one make sure you 'sideload' all your books, dont let the (((epub vendors))) steal from you. also use epubs not pdfs.go to a store irl and look at the screen if you can, it takes a bit to get used to but if you hate it obviously dont get oneama
Is there really any difference between them? I mean from what I understand Kindle really wants to lock you in with Amazon but functionally aren't all e-readers about the same? It's just a shitty tablet to read books on. Just pick one.

I had a boox go 7 gen IIDidn't turn it on for a month or so. Now it takes like two minutes to fully boot. Everything is perceivably slower. Tried everything to no avail, waiting on support rnOther than that it's a very nice device to read books and manga on

Kobo Libra 2 or get fuckedThen use koreader, tweak the store to point at calibre web on your homelab, fill the calibre-web shelves with shelfmark, and you're good to go. You'll probably spend more time searching for an ereader than reading any fucking book anyway.
I bought a kobo clara bw a while back. It was nice but during a move I lost it, forgot about it, and found it several months later. The battery is completely dead and I can't charge it anymore. Trying to decide between buying a replacement battery to replace it or just buying a new one. If you were me would you fix it or replace/upgrade?
cheap chink ereader + annas archive means ive read more since getting it than i have in the past decade. libraries and bookshops dont keep anything good in there anymore, cant find camp of the saints anywhere there but is on AA.
