neither. and i know this without even checking the details. because non of this nostalgic shit realizes what it was really like back then, and that it was shit no one actually really misses.
and it wasn't about the constraints of the data representation itself, but rather about all the lossiness in transport and storage, from analog signals and antennas to tapes.
same goes for other topics like CRTs.
