What's a technological advancement that's worse than the "old way"?
Cloudfare
discord is miles worse than irc

In the world of photography: electronic viewfinders. They take up more battery than optical and have input lag. They weigh slightly less, but that weight is usually miniscule compared to the weight of lenses.
>>109441550Crypto (digitalisation of currencies and wallets leading up to CBDCs and Digital IDs)
-scalable fonts, font smoothing/antialiasing-search engines no longer working-having to use an account for everything, verify phone number, mandatory phone 2FA-captchas/cloudflare/etc everywhere-electron or whatever "apps" instead of software written in C or assembly-everything becoming centralized to the same 5 companies>>109441696nope, crypto is based and doesn't require any id at all, that's literally its point. decentralization. don't use garbage "wallets", use Bitcoin Core. if you use garbage that requires you to use an id, you're promoting that kind of stuff yourself.
using frame rates as a measurement

I agree with everything itt so far. Nuke cloudjew and captchasPeople not owning or protecting their data has led to this shitty new world

>>109442030you still need to use real money through a kyc process to buy bitcoin, which completely defeats any advantage of using bitcoin.
AI obviously. It trades off speed for quality and just about everything else, because dumb NPC cows only care about delivery speed.

Anything that used to have removeable batteries that now has lithium, that sucks because the battery packs are often weird pouches or are sealed in and stuff, making the gadget e-waste when the battery dies. These days the battery is part of the power supply in many devices so you can't physically take out the battery and use the device at the same time either.
>>109442198The point of bitcoin is separation of money and state. Acquire it however, it does not matter.

>>109441568>Cloudfarecloudflate is practically the new kind of antivirus, companies create bots to ddos companies to force them to buy their services, similar to how antivirus companies made viruses to make people buy antivirus>>109442030>search engines no longer workingI really miss working reverse image search, ruining that was a travesty. also google lens not working on manga translating properly is a let down>having to use an account for everything, verify phone number, mandatory phone 2FApretty much authoritarian rules where you won't be allowed to be anonymous anymore. they say it's to protect underage or to fight bots, but in the end it's to control the population. we're china soon>>109442056>using frame rates as a measurementthey did this back in quake 3 arena>>109442093>captchasyou should've been here when accelerator spammer was active before captchas>>109442311>making the gadget e-waste when the battery diesit makes the product cheaper though. honestly repairability and future proofing is a meme
>>109441625Without the pentaprism/mirror the cameras can be significantly smaller and less complex. Also no mirror slap interfering with longer exposures. You also don't need to calibrate the focus since the phase detection points are now built into the sensor. And there is no "input" lag. It's a camera, the data only flows one way.
Anti-lock brakes. Why? Triples your stopping distance.Made for women who panic and stomp on the brakes when anything happens.Real men know how to counter-steer, tap dance the brakes, or lock-and-slide when the situation calls for it.

>>109443050>Triples your stopping distanceCome out of the 1980s grandpa. Cars got a lot better. Then they got really shitty again, but we had some good years in the 90s-2010s.

Pretty much anything the past 10 years. I cannot think of one good advancement.>inb4 nostalgiafagI'm a zoomer.>well written software got replaced by webapps and rust rewrites>GPUs peaked with the GTX 1080>the only viable phone options are le slab>everything is now "AI powered" which just kills all my enthusiasm and feels like wasting money>no outstanding features, all products just look like variations of the same fab>UIs are low effort CSS/SVG with no thought put into the UXTo an extent I'm even starting to understand what actual oldfags are talking about when they say pre-Windows 7 tech was superior. We don't need exclusive gated "apps" for things like chat when IRC/XMPP exists. We wouldn't need "the cloud" if FTP was used more..It's our fault as consumers for choosing convenience over freedom.
