Stupid thing is that due to demands from the Kildalls for higher royalties, the CP/M option was several extra hundred dollars so most customers went with the less expensive PCDOS option. Because of the huge difference in sales, IBM eventually made PCDOS the standard option and CP/M a special customization. While generally an affable guy on the Computer Chronicles, Gary had a prickly personality that eventually got him killed when he mouthed off at a motorcycle gang about their shit taste in bikes. In business, that personality often cost him deals. Gates, being a little beta fag, was far easier to deal with at that time.
