What's the best laptop brand?

>Dell
>HP
>Lenovo

I kinda wanna go with ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 AMD (16″).

My budget is around $4,500 to $5,000 CAD.

Help me /g/.
>>
yes spend 5k on a chinkpad so I can buy it from you on ebay for $300 in 5 years please
>>
>$5000 on a laptop
Holy retard

You don't buy business laptops new as a consumer. You pay a hefty premium compared to businesses that get good contracts and significantly lower price. You buy them refurbished/second hand.
Currently the ones that gives you the most bang for your bucks are the four-five year old ones that are being switched out in the businesses. Right now it's primarily T14 gen 2 and gen 3. You can easily get these for $200-300 at stores and even cheaper second hand market, though with more risk since you don't have warranty then. Just make sure you buy one where you can upgrade ram and ssd, the intel ones can but the amds can not for some generations, look it up before you buy.
Otherwise HP Elitebook 840 G8 is also great and at about the same price, with some pros and cons compared to thinkpad t14.

I need 64gb of RAM.
>>
>>109458377
no, ThinkPads are very capable machines but their resale value is absolutely destroyed by big corporations doing their mandatory 5 year tech upgrade cycles or whatever. I'm a p14s enjoyer myself, but unless you really need the absolute latest hardware (you dont), just buy a refurbished one a few gens old on ebay for literally 10% of its original msrp
>>
>>109458395
I'm not buying used shit. Nice try.
>>
>>109458409
>need the absolute latest hardware
I do.

I don't care about burning away $4,500.
The Dell XPS 16 Inch is $5,500.
>>
>>109458432
>I'm not buying used shit
there's a sucker born every minute
>>
>>109458462
Since you said this.
I'm spending $5,500 on the Dell XPS.

Thinkpads are dogshit anyways.

I do physics simulations and light ML development for a living and I don't need this. Anyone who is doing serious work should have access to a workstation or computer clusters.

Zen 5 laptops aren't great for heavily threaded tasks anyways, since they use gimped 5c cores to inflate core counts and for (((efficiency))).

I'm having trouble thinking of a use case where paying a $4000+ premium over a very capable zen 4 machine with a homogeneous core layout is worth it for a million useless zen 5c cores and a consoomer grade NPU so copilot can sell your data to the lowest bidder more efficiently makes any sense. Take the 4k you save buying last Gen and get a workstation that will completely decimate any laptop for any productivity task.

Or, like I said, buy me my next computer at a 1000% markup.

Don't buy a laptop. Don't care about brand. Laptops are free anon. Snag a trashtop of your choosing and maybe replace the battery.
>>
>>109458532
>I'm spending $5,500 on the Dell XPS.
Remember to put on ebay for $300 in five years anon.
>>
All i can tell you is that i bought a refurbished HP elitebook 840 g9 two years ago and it's handsdown the best tech consumer purchase i've ever made.

>bomb proof construction
>still working perfectly after 3 years of very hard use
>selling on ebay today for the same as what i paid for it 3 years ago
>easily upgradable/repairable

if it was stolen today i'd replace it with an 840 g11.

This should be done on a desktop. If you need to be mobile use a vpn and ssh into the desktop.

Instead of a laptop you could just buy 128GiB of RAM
>>
>>109458409
they just have such low VRAM...
>>
>>109458567
I never sell laptops I buy.
Nice try eBay Jew.

This.

they're business laptops anon
next you'll want them to have rgb

That's too expensive.

Macbook laptop

hopefully linux on laptop will be viable by 2030, sick of macOS
>>
>>109458442
Anyone who needs high end hardware gets a workstation that he remotes into
it simply isnt possible to have a high end hardware in a laptop, high performance kills battery no matter what

>hopefully linux on laptop will be viable by 2030, sick of macOS
linux is starting to get decent, you should've seen how terrible it was only five years ago
I used ubuntu as my main OS for a six months period, and it worked out somewhat. But all of a sudden it made my storage drive write only, so I couldn't download anything, and I didn't manage to figure out how to fix it
last time I installed linux, it was linux mint about a year ago. I managed to brick the installation without 10 minutes by installing something that it just couldn't handle for some reason, it was a python program and I guess it interfered with something with linux mint itself. of course I shouldn've used miniconda in retrospect
>>
>>109458583
Your hoarding makes no difference to me.
>>
>>109458992
selling things second hand is a second job and never really worth it
I'd rather just give old stuff away honestly
>>
>>109459092
Just list on marketplace or something and dont reply to jeets crackheads and niggers. smooth and easy sale every time
>>
>>109458946
I've actually had really good experiences using tiling or scrolling tiling window managers on laptops. limited screen real estate and increased trackpad gesture support goes a long way, to a point where I get actively mad at how much wasted space there is on my screen in windows/mac os. Just buy well supported hardware and not consoomer grade trash
>>
>>109458242
You have three options:
>Dell Precision (pre-2021)
>HP EliteBook (pre-2023)
>Lenovo ThinkPad (pre-2016)

>WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE USING IT FOR THAT WARRANT THAT AMOUNT OF $ YOU FUCKING BIIIIIIIIITCH!!!!???
with retards like this they either have a give a fuck load of money, or they're spending their parents money
no wagie cuck would be stupid enough to spend that amount of their own wagie money on a laptop
>>
>>109459092
I agree, but nobody wants my x230
>>
Laptop? Think lightweight; think client-only approaches to running software. Because soon, very soon, that is all we will be using.

4k on a laptop in 2026 will be the dumbest thing you'll ever do when a $150 Chromebook with Fable 5 mogs it.
>>
>>109458242
go hp ultrabook, new thinkpads aren't worth it. dell is also good but a little overpriced, hp's quality on new laptop is pretty incredible and they go on sale regularly so wait for a sale and buy the new one.
>>
>>109458242
Deffinitely not fucking HP I'd rather donate my cock'n'balls to a tranny than use a modern HP laptop again
>>
>>109458442
>16 inch
too big for a portable machine
>>
I perused my local best buy to look at all the laptops and im just disappointed at how shitty everything under $1000 is. I was looking for 17 inch laptops because I wanna consume, and I know those are more rare but even the expensive ones felt mediocre, apart from the lg gram which I think is so very beautiful with a nice display but it cost $2000. I ain’t spending that much to shitpost. also 1080p displays don’t seem good enough to me anymore. I feel like everything high end should be 1440p or 1600p like the gram.
still, the cheapest piece of crap laptop they had was $350 with the shittiest screen shittiest keyboard etc. those used to be like $170. fuck.
lg gram I might buy one refurbished or used. I want to buy a decent laptop for once in my life.
>>
>>109458242
I got a practically new refurbished hp zbook fury 16 g10 for about $1500. Pretty good deal IMO

Used in good condition is basically new at a discount I wouldn't overthink it
>>
>>109458462
you're fucking poor

DELL is the best if you aren't getting a macbook. DELL is the quintessential pro linux, easy to fix, reliable and bang for your buck brand. Get latitude or precision or XPS if you're an HR lady
>>
>>109464103
dell doesnt sell latitudes or precisions anymore rajmeet
