I can't get my dual-boot Linux Mint + Windows PC to recognize a new Nvidia graphics card. I updated my motherboard to the latest BIOS and uninstalled the drivers for my old AMD graphics card, but neither of those worked. Thankfully, my CPU has integrated graphics, so I then ran lspci and DxDiag with the old and new cards, both with and without power, and with no card at all. The only results where a card was recognized were those of the old AMD card with power. This also aligns with the fact that the old card's fans spin on the GRUB and BIOS menus, but the new card's do not. Per a suggestion in a previous thread, I tried every DisplayPort and HDMI port with both OSes and the BIOS menu, but none provided a display. I also believe I have no overclocks configured. The way I see it, there are still 3 possibilities:
1. My PSU is inadequate, but this doesn't make sense to me because the new card is listed as having a "Recommended PSU Wattage" of 550W, and my PSU is labeled as 600W
2. There's something wrong with the PCI slot settings in the BIOS (or the PCI slot simply isn't compatible with the new card's bus)
3. The new card is defective
What should I try next?

Funny how they only deploy them in-house or for direct clients where they ask them to firm an NDA. ASIC's at the moment are vaporware beceause they only can do very simple parts of the inference stack which grows larger and larger and one batching error fuckes the whole agentic loop so you cant even risk anything except near 0 latency feedback loops for anything that is on production which is why no hyperscaler is projected to run anything except nvidia until AMD can get something that rivals NVLink which is why the partner with synapsis for UALink the make a wish brand version of NVLink

It's a good laptop but it's a laptop at the end of the day. If you absolutely do not want or can not get a PC you likely won't find a better laptop deal for games but keep in mind these things get fucking hot and throttled to the nth degree where that 5070 (which isn't even a real 5070) will function more like a desktop 4060 under load. Power/mobo failures are somewhat common in these kinds of laptops too.

I noticed my 9800x3d runs at around 95c while playing demanding games. I remember seeing newer amd chips were made to run hot but I'm not sure this is normal. >>
>>109462715
I'm just saying this as someone who has owned gaming laptops in the past. They cannot compare with PC's and are wildly overpriced for what they deliver in terms of performance. Yes, portability is a huge thing but the use case for them is incredibly niche. If you're away from home 9 months out of the year, ok, you may have a need to get one of these and can afford to replace them completely if they fail, but if you are just taking the odd holiday here or there and simply cannot live without the odd gaming sesh then bring your console. Or just get a "business" laptop for a fraction of the price that has an integrated gpu and play some older games until you can get back to your home desktop.

That's because intel decided to use their fabs to produce their CPUs instead of tsmc and the node they're gonna use won't have enough capacity until late next year. If zen 6 is good then they'll be giving AMD at least 6 months of free market dominance until their top end nova lake CPUs launch in late 2027.

It will be, people building new rigs will continue to be fucked but if you already have DDR5 then you'll be able to upgrade to zen6/nova lake. For GPUs they'll continue to be expensive but at least we'll get a new gen with better performance.

I'm looking for a new case for my build. I really liked my old Corsair 570X RGB but I'm passing this build off to someone else and it'd feel silly to buy a new case to put my old parts in and then use my old case for my new parts. Problem is my cat liked to jump up on top of the case. I've taken her off of it every time she does, but I can't guarantee she won't try when I am gone from the room.

The 570X had tempered glass raised above the wire mesh. Twice (but fairly long in between) when she was on the desk the dumbass got her nail stuck in the speaker's hard mesh holes until I helped wiggle them out. It'd either end badly for her or for the PC or both if she tried that on top.

It looks like the Corsair 5000X has that similar setup, but is there any others or just a case that doesn't just have the mesh out without any hard covering raised above it? Not a fan of RBG so Im not looking at corsair for that reason, and it feels over the top for my build (4070, 9800 X3D).

Competing components meaning that when they are bidding for the raw resources they have to pay more and they pass the manufacturing cost onto us.

It doesn't matter if they see it coming or not because, more critically, they don't know if the demand will still be there in 5 years time, which would be just about when the new multi billion dollar fabs would be ready to start production. This phenomenon happened before and led to multiple bankruptcies.

What sort of temperature differences can one expect from the same hardware in a typical mid tower case vs an M-Atx case say like the fractal meshify or north (non-XL) vs a lian Li A3?
9070xt and a 9800x3d with a 360AIO and MSI B850MPOWER matx board. Will be using for productivity also so im concerned a smaller case will be too loud and won't have enough air volume for good thermals, but I want it to be semi transportable. My current PC has a custom loop with 960mm of radiator space and a gazillion fans so core/gpu hotspot never gets above 50c and its quiet but its a 115 liter case. I've never used air cooling or an aio before in my life so I don't know what to expect

What's the thoughts on the cooler master masterframe 400? (Its available where I live) I like how it has more cable room behind the MB, fits thicker radiators and has more space for thicker fans below the GPU than the A3. Its 44L due to its width has no ATX support though

bought another 2x16 kit ddr4 gskill 3600 cl16 for my am4 build. got one already, both on same dies. didnt work anyhow on jedec speed. So Ive decited to check cpu pins, fucking paste spread to pins and into cpu socket.

I am done with this shit.

So going to AM5, can get 2x32gigs 6000Mhz CL30 kingstons for like 870euros.
Cant decide the mobo, looking at MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI or MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK WIFI. 340euros vs 226.
CPU gonna ge some x3d.
Got rtx5090. huge corsair case, 1250w msi a 1250GL PSU.
Mostly gaming and playing with local inference.

wanna use 3 m2 pcie nvmes and 4 sata ssd. Buy another 2TB pcie4 one.

any mobo recommendations ? or am I safe even with that b850 ?

thanks

There's nothing wrong with b850s
They're usually preferred since they don't try to force usb4 on a platform that barely has pcie lanes to spare which causes lane sharing
>>
>>109469439
GPUs are going to suffer, an A3 is going to have only 1 intake fan, realistically. Bottom intake fans create turbulence that fuck with the GPU's cooling. I think an AP201 is going to have better thermals on the GPU with bottom intake fans, that little extra height makes a difference.

is it a 5000s Nvidia card? if yes then you vill need to update your kernel (sudo upgrade) and GPU driver to "580 open" or better. I had the same issue with my 5060 on Ubuntu. Shit won't boot. If safe graphics don't work you vill need to plug your old card in to do it

99% of modern thermal pastes are non-conductive. You could slather the socket in paste and it would still work fine. Just scrub it with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol if you're so concerned.
AM5 is LGA so good luck cleaning paste that gets in there lmao.

Closer to whenever RDNA5 plans to reveal (you know they're coordinating this shit between each other), and I'm not holding my breath. Even lower chance they go straight to next gen. More likely, Spark will get some form of showcase or "update" showing how it's just Perfect™ for goymers. For the kernel just:

For the GPU driver first check if it's available:

you had several years of people discussing the qdoled coatings

if the coating gets even worse and more fucked and no warranty/no nothing last out is peeling away the AR coating layer from the entire screen and it will be pristine glass behind it, but only last possible option
