Too expensive.
>>
No use case.

their target audience of disgusting dysgenic amerimutt mystery meat swarthoids didn't buy it

People don't want shit they have to strap to their head. People are self conscious about wearing glasses with a camera on them in public. They are afraid of being perceived as weird. I can't say I blame them. AR has lots of utility though, consider games like Pokemon Go and how successful they were. I think there will be more things like that. More applications of phone-driven AR will come about. But Apple vision failed for many reasons:

1) It's a walled garden. No developers = no product = no users.

2) It was prohibitively expensive, even for middle class Americans. It really was.

3) It was not ergonomic. Again, heavy shit strapped to your face is a hard sell.

To expand on this-
Apple already has all the technology needed to make the Welding helmet 20x better than anything 3M, ESAB or Miller could come up with.
Imagine a welding helmet that can show you how flat a surface is, that can show you metal temps and guide welds, most of that can be accomplished with the cameras used for FaceID on the iPhone alone...

Welding is something they can also charge their premiums on, no one is going to bat an eye at a $6000 helmet if does the above stuff, we already pay $2000-3000 for far less. 3M's biggest new 'advancement' is curved lenses and the ability to turn up and down shade via bluetooth. That's it.

Apple could charge even charge $10k and it'd still move more units than Vision Pro.
But Apple hates blue collar people, so they leave the money on the table.
>>
>>109464677
it was very clear from the beginning that their target market was niggers. the oroboem is niggers are poor and live in the hood, so even if a nigger could afford it, having something that expensive strapped to your face is nothing but a liability in the hood where it's prone to being stolen by other niggers. female "bitch niggas" are even dumber than thr males and might forget they bought the headset at all. I hate using this word, but what "content" in the vision pro would compel a black person to actually it?

Too expensive, too heavy, extremely niche, mis-sold as a productivity device instead of an entertainment device.

If it was around $12-1500, had a plastic or magnesium body and they embraced the games and home cinema aspect it might have had a chance.

Agree with all your statements though. We treat it as a dev kit for future AR concepts. I hate that the software forces it to be an iPad stuck to your face, and how uncomfortable it is even after trying multiple "light seal" gaskets.

>>109466818
It was this. Not a single ad for this thing put a White guy front and center. OPs ad is so ridiculous as to look surreal; it’s like an ad for a product in some woke Netflix sci fi show.

Price was a huge problem as well, they were booed by their own developers when they announced it at GDC. They still refused to give an inch.

>>
>>109468055
>Apple doesn't allow porn
nothing stops the user from opening a video
that said, the video players are trash for viewing that kind of content
though it should be noted that even "8K" porn is still too low res to look that great, you'd want liughtfield or splat-based modeling instead for proper 6DOF 3D effect
>>
Just because you can't afford something, or can find someone to steal it from, doesn't mean a product has been discontinued dumbdumb.
>>
If it is too expensive and there isn't enough videogames or things to do with it off course that is not going to sell.
>>
>>109468055
True. If I had an AVP though I'd try using ALVR to connect to my Windows PC and run VRchat. It apparently works pretty well.
>>
Apple tried to enter a two decade old market with an overpriced toy and no software to back it up, even when the hololens have been the industry standard for a decade. Bold and reckless move.
>>

> retarded price tag
Not really retarded, I think it was a marketing ploy. Luxury companies like clothes or cars do it all the time. They drop some sort of impracticably expensive piece of shit, which a small percentage of "whale" diehard fans buy, but for the rest it is too expensive and impractical. But for the rest it cements in the discourse the meme "oh COMPANYNAME? that stuff is super expensive and fancy".
And then with this association in their mind a normie sees their product that they actually might want to buy, which is still overpriced but not exorbitant, and feel like they got a good deal.
Their "$700 caster wheels" or however much that shit was was the same play.
>>

The thing that went wrong was that they made a high-end VR headset at a time when VR was selling really well, but they called it something different (mixed/augmented computing or whatever) and didn't make it appealing to any enthusiast VR users since it didn't support existing infrastructure or software for gayming/PC streaming.
So in other words they saw high-end enthusiast products were being successfully sold in market A (due to tech hobbyist furries buying $5,000 headsets and full body tracking for VRChat) and they decided they wanted to tap into that, but for some reason they tried to target their headset toward a brand new category B and make it into a whole new thing, which doesn't have any market at all.
>>
>>109464677
>Dumb ergonomics, goggles are a shit form factor
>Developer device, did not expose full functionality to developers
>No software unless you use wireless streaming from Windows or Linux, so not compatible with their own ecosystem
>Overpriced
>Stupid eye passthrough
>Chose an actor for marketing based likely entirely on how her hair would look when wearing the headset
>>109464699
People will accept whatever is shilled to them. The notion of "strapping something to your head for VR is weird", is weird to normalfags because television and movies mostly portrayed VR as weirdos with things strapped to their heads whenever they wanted to jump on the bandwagon and make a VR episode.
Protective equipment for high speed sports is used more or less based on how prevalent it is in the marketing material.
>>109465217
Nah, never happening. It's too compelling of an idea and the tech is almost there.

The current iteration of VR has survived a decade of ongoing development.
A lot of what needs to be changed is actually just cutting off all the bullshit injected by the 2010 market like walled gardens, Windows 10 and all-in-one standalone. It's like if the 2000s transition away from early shitty LCD displays was immediately hijacked by forced HDMI and streaming only Smart TVs.

VR, in practice, is exclusively about video games. Apple Vision Pro doesn't have any proper VR games. It is also too expensive. Finally, the new CEO, John Ternus, apparently didn't like the idea from the start.
>>
Genuinely if they had marketed this towards furries and VR chatters, it would have sold like hotcakes. The problem was that they took a technology that is mainly propped up on societal deviants using it to enact their fantasies, removed all the aspects that made it appealing to said deviants (vr social games), and tried marketing it to normies who have no interest in a $3000 VR headset.
>>
>>109464677
besides the obvious.
make an AR type of experience which requires you to see the real world. proceed to use a camera instead of seethrough glass, which introduces latency and discomfort.

Visualizing new manufacturing lines before making big investments in retooling the factory. Workers will wear these and pretend to do work in order to collect data on efficiency, health and safety.
