Want a distro that just works and you don't care about systemd or age verification? Pop is for you.
Want a distro that doesn't depend on Debian, Red Hat, or Arch and has no systemd or age verification that also works? Void is for you.

Fagdora is corporate slop, it's as bad as Ubuntu.

The reason it's shilled so much is because it's become the choice of Windows refugees who don't know shit about technology or Linux.

>>
>>109466860
Fedora is not corporate slop, it is a community project, sponsored by corporations(mainly redhat). Fedora(redhat) engineers are the greatest contributors to the open source software on which all other distros depend on(including pop and void). Fedora is upstream first.

Fedora is a solid distro. But it's the not the end all be all either. This new tribalism, I suspect, is coming from the huge influx of windows refugees.

I use both Pop (with GNOME) and Fedora and I noticed absolutely zero difference between them, except Pop is a little better for gaming.

Not in my experience. Fedora being on the latest stable kernel by default and current mesa gave me an edge in gaming.

Debian has a broader range of packages available than Fedora and both Debian and RHEL clones like Rocky/Alma are more stable and more rigourously tested than Fedora which is more important to me than having the latest packages.
>>
>>109467476
Negative.I get more fps on fedora.
>>
>>109467497
Greater number of packages is irrelevant in the age of containers and flathub. Debian is stable in the sense of package versions changing only for security reasons, good for servers, bad for desktops, same for the Rhel clones, which are at least More professionally maintained due to the redhat heritage. If we talk about stability as in lack of bugs during daily desktop usage Fedora is ahead by a lot. So, server - use Alma, desktop - use Fedora. Easy life.
>>
>>109467601
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. However I prefer the wider range of available packages and not using flatpaks, as well as the availability of .deb files. Nah, I wouldn't, because I'd setup an MCP server for gentoo system administration. It would fetch the gentoo wiki for information (saved on local disk) any time it needed guidance for how to best configure the system. In addition, it would handle configuration of USE flags for me automatically. It would compile the system exactly to my hardware, and it would build only exactly what the computer needs (and what I define)

Sound familiar? Reminder: Gentoo is used for ChromeOS. And also, I have installed gentoo in the past. I just prefer Debian.

It has what is best described as a "decision making process" which is revealed via "thought blocks" which you can debug in an advanced client.

Are you asking about a hypothetical MCP server for gentoo? It would first need to index the system's hardware, then it would make a database containing that info. You could also index gentoo wiki for the use flags. There are lots of ways to achieve what you want. You would have to be specific

Basically only Canonical will back the 70k+ packages in main, restricted and universe repos by its paid programmers. The next best thing is Fedora with a hybrid way in which some Red Hat employees will work on it's 70k+ popular packages but not all of them and the fedora community also contributes, so it's a mix of the two for Fedora. Then OpenSuse also works in the same hybrid model as Fedora. The next best thing is Mint, Pop!_OS which because of their base on Ubuntu rely on the work there done by Ubuntu's developers and community for some of their packages. Everything else (Gentoo, Void, Alpine, Arch, Debian) is all community.

Dnf is the best package manager. Clean, logical semantics and after the rewrite in c++ also extremely fast.
>>
>>109472092
They're not denying anybody security updates. As I said if you don't register you will get community support. If you subscribe you get full community support + full Canonical support (paid after 5 pcs). Canonical's programmers are salaried employees working on those patches and fixes, it doesn't pay itself. They are more than justified in charging reasonably, leaving probably over 95% of users having full support from them for free.

>Not a technical argument
You didn't ask for technical arguments. You asked for a fight. Sorry that you can't construct an OP to capture your actual intent. Better luck next time.
>>
>>109477330
You have a point. But Fedora cannot do nothing about it. Legal reasons.
>>
>>109477332
It is /g/ technology, right? I expect the fights here to be fought with technical arguments.
>>
>>109477365
Fedora is currently in a period of relative stability. If you look back at its long history of introducing new technologies, you will see many instances of its users suffering as said technologies stabilize. Debian users are largely sheltered from this.
>>
>>109477381
It is not a period that will come and go, software nowadays moves fast and becomes obsolete even faster. Fedora is well equipped for this reality, Debian isn't.
>>
>>109477406
Fedora's history proves otherwise.

With AI entering software engineering, only Fedora being fast and adaptable enough stands a chance of surviving. I am pretty sure that most of/g/ see the writing on the wall, if they are honest with themselves. As for debian, debian is unfortunately history...

And your evidence for this is?
>I am pretty sure that most of/g/ see the writing on the wall
I am pretty sure a huge chunk of /g/ loves Arch and Debian.
>debian is unfortunately history
In just two more weeks, right anon?

I said, if they are honest with themselves...
>>
>>109477545
Okay, so no evidence then?
>>
>>109477555
Don't look up, anon. I promise, nothing is happening...

Knock yourself out. Debian doesn't stand a chance in the raging storm.

/thread

Well, this pretty well illustrates the speed with which software moves in the last months, debian is dead in the water if a sane person extrapolates. As for the current technical advantages of Fedora over debian, don't look at this thread and the thread before that.

Hint, Fedora absolutely kicks grandpa's ass.
>>
>>109466316

I am an old man, I have no patience for ricing, just want good defaults.
>>
>>109477894
You are welcome to Fedora, grandpa. We may sometimes joke around but actually have only respect for the elders.

Fedora won by a mile for an upteenth time. It's getting a bit boring. Case closed.

/g/ is fucked. A few faggots ruining the board
>One schizo apple shill that escaped cell phone general gaslighting GrapheneOS in hundreds of threads
>One schizo techlet newfag samefagging Fedora posts in multiple threads
There are a couple of others too

Better than the Mint tards
>>
>>109477894
Same, an out of the box distro with sane defaults and a large enough team of contributors for decent quality control that doesn't get in your way if you want to make more advanced changes to your system is the best.
I also like the Fedora update style where it's point release but also updates are frequent enough, especially with more important packages. It's a good middle ground where everything is pretty well tested but still new enough to not feel outdated.

The whole internet is fucked after over a billion indians got on it. Also some SEA countries like flipland contribute a lot to shittery. The 4chan hack revealed that almost all of the bottom of the barrel bait/tribal/schizo posters are brown people. It's amazing really, I figured it was contributing some but didn't realize the quality of any platform would literally improve tenfold if you just rangebanned certain places.

>>109478296
Yep, Debian is highly regarded in India.
