Excuse me, I’d like to interject that NT is just a kernel. Windows is just the front end. We don’t need Windows or Linux. How would you feel if NT’s source code were made GPLv2? Because Microsoft is benching NT in favor of an AI kernel for their next operating system.
>>
I will be losing my position here at the end of the quarter but I figured on my way out, I would donate the entire NT kernel to the general public. I hate losing my job after all these years but it is what it is. Hope you enjoy the work.

The linux kernel is superior to the windows kernel
But the windows userland is superior to the linux userland
What we really need is Linux plus windows userland, Wine comes close but because of their "clean room" philosophy they are severely limiting themselves.
>How would you feel if NT’s source code were made GPLv2?
Nothing because the windows kernel is garbage, seriously when is windows going to get a filesystem better than NTFS?

Windows does not really have a hard boundary between user and kernel. Consider the windowing system, its implemented inside a kernel mode driver win32k.sys.
