You don't need buttons and knobs to operate an automobile, do you Mr. Anderson?

Yeah why do you need knobs and buttons?
>>
>>109469938
sneed and feed's touchscreen (formerly knobs) is a subtle joke.
>>
Custom configurable user interface. Can't do that with buttons really
>>

/o/ here. The worst part is that you usually can't change or rewire these iPad cars back to buttons since its all proprietary. You would have to replace all the ECUs in the car with open source ones and rewire if you wanted sensors AC control etc
>>
I remember reading about this in the scifi novel Engines of God where a scientist complained about the lack of manual controls when her spaceship broke down. I didn't realize this would become a reality so soon.

What brand is at least trying to be the most open source and analog.

The buttons, knobs and dials don't show you advertisements in a car you already paid for.

I hate how the screen isn't integrated into the dashboard so that it looks like part of the car. It's like someone just glued a tablet onto their dash.

At least on Teslas it's dead simple to tap into the CAN bus to add physical buttons or whatever else
There's even commercial products built around that
>>

I saw a guy on r*dit use AI to decode his cars CAN messages with AI to install his own custom raspberry pi headunit running off the 12v. Nobody ever told me that in the future we'd have to jailbreak our own cars

If I don't have volume and HVAC controls that I can use by touch alone then its a shit car. Simple as.

that must be truly stifling to ux/ui designers that can't reimagine everything every year!

Way too many buttons, both digital and physical. So many cars from the late 80s to mid 2000s fell for this meme even before touch screens became commonplace. Luckily, cars without all that extra bullshit still exist, just not in EV form.

Man I love my Tesla.

I've been absolutely killin it these last 5 years. First I get a pocket deal $100k below market on a house where every square inch of roof is covered in solar panels. Her realtor really said "oh people don't like solar panels they don't add any value to the home". I don't have a power bill while my neighbors pay $1600 a month LOL. Then I buy a barely used Tesla for $25k (and get a $4k rebate) because "dur that battery is gonna wear out dude". I've had zero problems with it in the 3 years I've owned it and I charge it for free at home. Easily one of the best cars I've ever owned. Meanwhile my neighbor's Jeep is on its 3rd cam shaft in 4 years and gas is $6/gal now LOL.

Its so nice living in a society full of ludite chuds that shit piss and fart themself in fear of new technology. There are some really great deals to be had.

Having a screen in your car is distracting. I like watching the road.

I just bought one too.

The aesthetic in your pic is awful. Bulbous and crude design a product of creative regress built behind placation of the lower classes that buy headend recievers and radio units from temu or shien. If a car is to be good looking, ditch the round stuff for smooth lines that flow. Even Hyundai did it better than the lesbianmobile company.

This is why I love my maxima and never getting rid of it until it dies. Even the touch screen can be controlled with a knob/control stick.

bought an HP laserjet printer, tried to print via USB out of the box, laptop installed driver, sees printer, job is sent, printer rejects it, no reason given, turns out needs wifi even to print with USB cable, definitely some jeetware in there

Every functions are centralized to the screen.
If it fails: Game Over.
Also: It isn't your car, you will never totally own it or you'll have to swap the software.
