I want to exit Discord, and i want tl leave them with as little data as possible. I'm in Europe so i can use GDPR laws, should i delete all my messages using Discrub or ask them to do it? I've heard manual deletion of messages triggers manual verification of them by Discord supermods, so that's something i'd rather avoid.
take your meds
>>109470762delete your messages firstotherwise they'll "anonymize" them
>>109471315Cant i ask them to do that?
>>109472197nta but pretty sure you can't. And even if you delete I'm willing to bet they keep them all on their backend to feed AI or whatever. I'm using Fluxer now with a few friends, but some remained on >Discord. I just run a message deletion script monthly there.
>>109470762>so i can use GDPR lawsAll that does is set the deleted row to bool true on your data. It does nothing to remove the actual data.>should i delete all my messages using DiscrubDoes as much as asking them to delete which is nothing. At best they will wipe your data from the hot pool of data (which is already laughable because see above) and your data still lives on in dozens of backups forever.
>>109470762Using scripts or tools to automatically remove all of your message could get you a ToS violation under which they then won't allow you to remove the rest of your messages easily. Then you'd need to hit up their support, they'd probably tell you that you can't delete your account because of some catch-22 and you'd need to remind them of the GDPR, maybe even through a lawyer. If you're not in a hurry, manually delete them after you're doing chatting with someone. >>109472197Nope, GDPR doesn't force them to delete the messages even though you can claim that they may contain PII. >>109472334>It does nothing to remove the actual data.Under the GDPR they have to delete the data or separate it in such a way in which it won't get resold, then delete it later.
>>109472603>Under the GDPR they have to delete the data or separate it in such a way in which it won't get resold, then delete it later.Yeah that's the pop-sci tier understanding of how the GDPR is supposed to work.In reality GDPR compliance only means what I outlined, a "deleted" flag is set. The underlying data isn't deleted because you can't isolate such a dataset in backups (according to the courts) so they can legally keep that forever if they just pinky promise not to do which I'm sure they'll stay true to their word considering the fines might be as high as what they make in three hours!
>>109472623>Yeah that's the pop-sci tier understanding of how the GDPR is supposed to work. No, that's how the GDPR works. It doesn't say 'Uhm just mark something as taboo and it'll be fine'. >(according to the courts)Good thing European courts don't work like US ones in which one court is bound by another. >the fines might be as high as what they make in three hours!4% of global revenue is not made in three hours.
>>109472623>In reality GDPR compliance only means what I outlined, a "deleted" flag is set.How can you be so confident while being so fucking wrong? This is some American-grade stupidity.
>>109470762I used discrub to delete thousands of messages, been wanting to delete an old account a long time ago but has been difficult>ask owner of the server I interacted the most to give me permissions to delete my messages and mentions from others and anything that relates to me>starts saying bullshit like "we have to keep balance" "it aint fair for the rest of the people in the server" "what are you afraid of?">stop asking>6 months later I ask again>same issue, and now asking if im worried about the quality of memes, trying to psychoanalyze me, god forbid someone wants to clean their past on the internet>says that he can archive the chat and create a new one, that way no one can access the messages>he doesnt see any issue with that>I said whatever just let me delete my shit>does it>someone leaves>blames me for it>I have to ask someone else to do me the favor I'll probably keep using discord with other account but only to chat with friends who I play games with and thats it, im done with joining random groups of retards and schizos. Also, I asked discord to delete some pics that have personal data in them, names and address and they didnt do shit, so dont expect any help from them.
>>109472716>>109472808>no it doesn't work like that>it just doesn't okay?>my data is totally secure and deleted! FAGMAN AND THE EU WOULD NEVER LIE TO ME! Y-YYOU M-MUST BE A M-MUTT!Same shit every time.
>>109470762the faster you delete it the faster they'll eventually forget you in some never-to-be-loaded cold backup
>>109472854>Tries to smear GDPR>Wrong on everything>Claims we're sucking off the US through anti-US laws
>>109471174Nah
these rules are for small companies not for big techAnd here's the quote from another message board that stuck to me"Modern civilization is shitton of lies and deceptions in every accept"
>>109472810>im done with joining random groups of retards and schizosSorry but I have to point and laugh.
>>109477333at the beginning it wasnt like that, the group turned into that after a while, funny thing is, they value privacy, but only for them, the rest can go fuck themselves
>>109470762They already know everything.
>>109470762I think the only thing you can really do is try to delete all your messages manually or using various scripts. But even then all you're really doing is deleting messages that other users can see, they're still on the d*scord servers. I believe the best thing you can do is just cut your losses and accept your fuck up and move on, and use discord sparingly. That's what i'm trying to do at least.
>>109470762>I want to leave the pool and leave with as little of my piss left in it as possible.
>>109471174
>>109470762discord supermods don't existdelete it with discrub and send them a gdpr demand letterif you are in california you can send them a CCPA letter for anyone reading this
>>109477857This is a lie.
>>109470762It won't work. Even though it will eventually say "Deleted User", your User ID will still stay intact.
>>109470762Can you imagine the training data this company has... it will be provided exclusively to US frontier labs.
>>109480018>US frontier labsWho?
