Microsoft Comic Chat turns 30 this month!

Did you use Microsoft Comic Chat? Who was your favourite character? Any good memories using the program? I remember going into random rooms and saying the n-word then people would get angry and ask me to leave. Good times.

literally who

Snailcat shit

MS Comic Chat was great, it's a shame it was never further developed. As a layer over IRC it worked surprisingly well. The path from that to VR chat is pretty linear, if you think about it. There's just a gulf in the middle where nobody was working in the space.

So what is it a meme generator?

it's like discord but good

It's an IRC client, but every chat line gets pushed into a comic strip panel with a character and expressions.
>>
>>109473822
I have never used this or knew it existed. I did use IRC though. I was in the FredrykPhox channel
>>
>>109474288
lol can I safely assume the OP was started by someone to let anons know this is now open source?
This looks like it would make a neat project for chatting with LLM. I bet a wrapper that jammed the LLM back/forth into IRC format would be straightforward.

needs a "I seent it" edit

It's such a simple and funny concept even to this day lmao

I'm curious how the actual IRC engine is. Being this old is it riddled with exploits. Take the panel renderer and throw it on top of some modern proven library or is it solid? Has anyone read it?

AI, add Slopify (TM)

I always wanted to use it but I never found anyone to use it with.

There used to be public rooms anyone could join. Maybe they stopped that after a while though I'm not sure. I haven't used it since the 90s

>Who was your favourite character?
Genuinely do not recall. Or even what available options were DESU. Definitely wasted a few hrs on it whilst webferret was scrapin'...

lol. Yout o t'day just stare blank n: "whut?"
Can get a decent age bracket on folk just from their response to the query, as much as the data, if supplied.

>As a layer over IRC it worked surprisingly well.
I was surprised aint no-one made any imitation or similar. Tho I don't count emoting characters in in-game chats...
