/vcg/ News>August 3rd - Alibaba releases Qwen3.8-Max2.4T total / ~95B active MoE, 1M context, multimodal. Hosted live ($2/$6). Claims competitive with the closed frontier (including Fable 5 territory on some internal/Arena numbers). Open weights (plus a 27B) still promised for the following week — not out yet as of Aug 5.>July 31st - DeepSeek promotes V4-Flash-0731 to productionSame 284B/13B active MoE + 1M context as the preview, big post-training jump on agent/coding benches. Beats their own larger V4-Pro-Preview on the numbers they published. Silent API upgrade, same cheap pricing, MIT weights.>July 30th - OpenAI cuts GPT-5.6 Luna 80% and Terra 20%Luna to $0.20/$1.20, Terra to $2/$12. Sol unchanged but gets Fast mode. Efficiency gains (partly from Sol optimizing its own stack) + pressure from cheaper Chinese options.>July 27th - Alibaba quietly launches Qwen3.7-FlashCheap 1M-context multimodal for high-volume agent/vision workloads ($0.03/$0.13). No fanfare.>July 26/27th - Moonshot drops full open weights for Kimi K32.8T-param MoE, largest open-weight model at the time, 1M context, multimodal. Hosted version was already out; weights hit HF under their license.>July 24th - Anthropic releases Claude Opus 5Near-Fable 5 performance in a lot of categories at half the price ($5/$25, Fast mode available). New default on Claude Max, effort dial, 1M context. Still the big Western closed-model story of the window.

>>109474336My current main harness for vibecoding (locally or with a cloud model) is opencode. Recently I used it along with Kimi-K3 and gave the model a research task that had absolutely nothing to do with coding or even editing any files whatsoever. The model did what I asked it to do and did it well but I saw in the thing traces that it even acknowledged that the task I gave it did not require any coding knowledge and that the task I gave it didn't involve reading through a code base. This means that whatever system prompt open code sends it by default guides the model into being good at, you guessed it, coding. This made me wonder if the model could have potentially performed better at its task if I use a more generic harness like Hermes. I only have experience using open code, codex, and very briefly claude code (I ditched CC because it was the shittiest harness I've ever used but codex and open code worked perfectly fine. You can technically use other models with CC but non anthropic models perform like shit on it). What do other anons use hermese agent for? How does it compare to opencode? What's it good for and good at and what's it bad at?

Might have to cheat and use a browser for Raku, we will see. Lazarus should be fine though. Flutter worked well on both ClojureDart and Dart. Too tired to make screens, will do tomorrow. I don't know why the usage was so much lower today. Its early morning in China right now too, but it was not when I was running the models the other day. Today I used 8% of my rolling usage to finish the JavaFX app and Ada app. Can't wait to try this with Codex and Antigravity once I save up some money for them too.

>>109474629first of all congratulations on asking serious and advanced questions in this shit threadto answer your question, yes, the harness matters a ton but only because they each force different slop text into the model off the bat. some of them have a shit ton of slop. your experience with claude code being shit with other models is exactly why. anthropic does a decent job of writing system prompts. open ai not really (in fact, until just a few weeks ago, codex' system instructions told it to use specific cards, border radius settings, and all kinds of other specific slop design constraints that was making it shit at UI... purely because of the system prompt)this is why a harness like pi is what you want. if you have enough brain cells to put together, you can make a better system instruction set for your use case. it can be as minimal as possible instead of polluting it with random features and skill shit. as models get smarter and smarter, this only becomes more true; their raw intelligence doesnt need slop constraints anymore. thats why anthropic has been making the system prompt smaller for the new 5 series of models, but it's still huge and a ton of context.so would kimi k3 have done better in hermes for a non code task? yes, probably, and theres been plenty of benchmarks that show stuff like that. but a better option is using a harness that doesnt poison the model's mind with slop off the bat every time like 99% of the retard harnesses do.

Right now Im having claude investigate if my orders are being stuck in the back of the queue:ie. I place an order to buy 1 contract @ price P, Citadel gets that order places an order for 100 contracts at price P and then let's my order hit the exchange, so now I'm sitting behind 100 contracts at that price and everyone else sees 101 contracts being bid at $P, now if the market moves, they can just cancel their order, leaving mine there while my datafeed and execution latency is milliseconds to seconds stale leaving a mispriced contract order up for grabs, which anyone can decide to fill.Claude just came back, picrel, and the frontrunning is a fantasy luckily, pretty sure that's illegal, but we were discussing queue modeling and so I had it investigate

Command timeout on harness is so annoying. Model can't possibly know how long a command will take, so it often sets a ridiculously low timeout which obviously fails, then model doesn't know to stop that timed out command, so it ends up running it again in parallel. What is even the point of this command timeout, when would we ever want to stop a command after an arbitrary amount of time before it's finished, I guess the nocoders end up making completely broken shit that hangs indefinitely, another case of the retards ruining things for everyone else
