I. Fucking. Hate. KDE. A lot. Words can't describe how much i hate this piece of shit. It is the anti-soul, it never 'just werks' it is the anti-christ in graphical-enviroment form. Everything about this projects offends me on a deep psychological level. Die, KDE, die.
>>109474444I wanted to avoid systemd, so i hopped distros and tried KDE. Holy shit it's.... not good. Buggy, bloated, customization results in crashes. I went back to systemd to get back on gnome. and i HATE systemd.

I like it. It has a lot of features and I'm not a long term Linux user so it's a layout I'm used to.Also has only maybe crashed once or twice but recovers immediately.
>>1094744440 reason to use a DE in 2026 when Quickshell existsnice digits though
>>109474781sway by itself might just work but actually trying to use it as a complete system is impossible. the wm only environment is so janky and fragmented it makes daily use unbearable.an example of this is just trying to find an image and drag-and-drop it onto the browser to post here: first i open dolphin (because it's the only file manager capable of actually loading thumbnails in a large directory fast) and immediately get blinded by a flash bang because it defaults back to the light mode theme if you aren't logged in under kde. also you have to set default apps somewhere manually with only using a wm and dolphin might not even respect it so i have to right click 'open terminal here' then mpv the file i want to play because double clicking on it won't work, since kde isn't there to tell dolphin what program to run it in. there are many more high friction examples like no minimizing windows, or no alt tabbing things for floating mode windows, or trying to use one of those tui file managers, it's all JANK.full desktop environments are nice and integrated, they just work. pic related, took me 2 seconds to super+e, ctrl+l to my 72,000 image directory, then drag the one i want and alt tab to the browser to drop it.
>>109474444Jesus christ, calm down commie. This is one of the active maintainers on their matrix channel.
I can use Cinnamon, KDE, Windows, it's all the same shit when your program is up. My biggest knock against KDE is the inability to span a giant image across multiple monitors. In before some workaround hack... I mean default KDE can't do that. Cinnamon and Windows can. It's mildly annoying because I have 2 identical monitors side by side and yeah, you can do that in Windows and Cinnamon.

GNOME is worse than KDE but not by much.Mate and XFCE are pretty much the same. They're nice and "just work" but suffer from GTKancer 3.LXDE is dead. LXQt is really nice but lacking it's own suite and suffers from some KDE-isms.Trinity would be perfect if the project scope was narrowed with a dedicated team for fixing bugs and upkeep with modern standards.
>>109476385why does it have such ugly icons though?

KDE is one of those things people endlessly complain about but I never had an issue with. Just works. Granted, I have only used it for 6 months but that's still pretty long without issue imo. The other major one I see is Firefox. No problems in like a decade at least and people make wow it doesn't work threads every day.
i’m about a year in on linux (after a short ubuntuspill like 20 years ago) and i constantly see this seething about KDE and KrashDE etc., but i’ve yet to have a single issue with it. What is supposedly the problem? I haven’t seen a single actual reason cited, just ”it just suck bro”-tier shir.
I switched from Cinnamon to Plasma about six months ago and have yet to see any of these issues people complain about.
>>109474444KDE feels like it's made by well-meaning, but kinda incompetent people, resulting in a mishmash of good ideas, but the overall experience somehow amounts to less than the sum of its parts.Gnome feels like it's made by malicious people who actively hate their user base for not understanding their glorious vision of how a DE should work. Cinnamon is the only DE I've used where I thought that the developers actually use the software they're working on daily.

There's a reason Apple and Microsoft have been copying KDE features over the last two decades and not Gnomehttps://www.webpronews.com/microsoft-windows-ripping-off-kde-plasma-again/
>>109474444I have a long experience with KDE.>KDE 2 was good.>KDE 3 was getting bloated and had bugs, especially early on.>KDE 4 had even more useless bloat and even more bugs, especially early on. It was annoying.>I was slow to switch to KDE 5 to avoid the early buggy period. Then I finally upgraded to KDE 5.4, which in a sensible world should have been stable enough and encountered a deluge of bugs instead along with the expected bloat. And to think that the 5.0 version had to have been even buggier than that! After enduring the bugs for half an hour I switched to LXQt and later to XFCE to avoid systemd. XFCE is pretty great but needed a bunch of setting tweaks to work to my liking.
the animations annoy me a lot in kde, but they can be disabled. same with gnome.
>>109477424Cool so your experience ended like 15 years ago
I finally installed KDE because I have been kind of procastinating doing the "new thing", and people shitting on it on 4chan, and I actually enjoy it now. It's so powerful. Like, it's a GUI for Linux, if you get what I mean.Don't be scared. It's very powerful and lets you configure evrything exactly the way you want it to look like. :3
I think the thing that bothers me most about Gnome is the "mac"ification of linux. Just like apple, the gnome devs want to make decisions for you pre emptively without your input because they think they know best. That is their entire design philosophy, and it is to the point where they will constantly argue with people who ask them why they cant do something because they cant imagine someone doing something that they do not personally do. I think this is either an autism thing, an ego thing, or a combination of both
>>109474444I wish there was a better alternative. Sadly there isn't. Gnome makes you want to chop off your balls too.
>>109479944Honestly kinda based, make things as you like them. If people don't like it they can use a different DE or make their own.And I shall choose to use KDE instead.
