What are some good earbuds or earphones for an MP3 player or mobile phone? My HD 560S headphones kind of reveal to me how bad and uncomfortable my earbuds are. Seriously, I got fatigue from sticking those into my ear for so long now. I have some Life Q20 or whatever these things are headphones but I need something that's easy on the battery life and portable, so earbuds would still be good.

I managed to get a full refund out of Amazon even though they were out of the return window.
Never going with these again. I only got them because the PS3 ones were so good and assumed it would be somewhat similar. Is there anything in the $200 range that has a decent mic that you guys recommend or does it make more sense to just get a decent little boom mic and in-ear monitors?

u can order from japan thru amazon or sites like zenmarket, in some cases due to cheap yen it can be cheaper than buying something japan made from local distributor, i bought elecom trackball that way and everything went smoothly

>>109477364
seems like qa quality is worse with cheaper products, they usually have good press for more expensive stuff. But at that price for planars u can try chinkfiman sundara, editions xs (and quality is more random but if u get good unit its just that chinkfiman sound that can sound impressive at times), maybe moondrop para 2 could be an option, this one is more expensive but didnt seen any obvious quality problems and driver by itself is pretty capable, good for pad rolling and eq if u need it
>>109483629
new playstation headsets are pretty good, inzone h9, h6 air, they are using drivers from sony's audiophile headphones. for wireless stuff i would go for anything that has app with good parametric eq build
>>
>>109479447
I've been using them for the past 9 months and they're definitely as good as everybody says yes.
>>
>>109486128
>seems like qa quality is worse with cheaper products, they usually have good press for more expensive stuff.
like what? the k9 pro their le epic aio was just dying in 13m, convientially outside the 12m warranty on a $800 product, all i ever see from fiio buyers is dongles and those snapping budget planars
>>
>>109479746
>Takes like 20 mins to do that to DT770.
...if you know how to solder already and are willing to fuck up your warranty and shit, not everybody is into that, retard.
>i dont trust anything they make since being bought out by china
these came out like a month after the acquisition, very unlikely they weren't designed by beyer themselves, the dt 240 pro (its predecessor with similar sound signature) came out all the way back in 2018 and that was also made in china, dt 770/700 and other beyer headphones are also pretty much just assembled in germany and nothing more, the fact they're made in china means absolutely nothing and the 770s are also full of qc and build quality issues if that's your concern.
you're literally just saying made in china = bad and that's it, but that's not how any of this works, the place of manufacturing generally has no bearing on the actual quality of the product and the "made in germany" on other beyer headphones is just a marketing gimmick when all the parts are from china as well, what a retard.
>>
>>109486173
like with ft5 and ft7 planar headphones, on the other hand u might be right, i forget about their source gear, in my case i didnt have problems with their DAPs but i can recall few post on headfi about devices dying after software updates and so on.
For me Fiio is still above stuff like topping, xduoo, hifiman but in general good practice before buying anything from china is to research bit more than 2-3 most popular yt reviews, usually headfi threads are good for finding long term problems with gear
>>
my energy reference 22's have dead tweeters and it's about $500 cad to get them fixed (200x2+shipping)
i wonder if its even worth it to try or something else in that price range would just be better

>>109486199
i see, it would be hard to be as bad as topping and hifiman that is quite true. As for their amps it just seems like a nightmare overall, i mean they used the akm fire to revise the k9 pro with ess and add holes to the case and it was still failing constantly, some said bad solder jobs, some said they couldnt even fix them because they were too far gone, shame really
but hey at least it didnt explode headphones like that topping amp
>>
>>109486128
>new playstation headsets are pretty good
this is literally what i'm trying to get away from. they don't have enough bass, the speakers are some kind of weird magnetic thing that sounds like it's popping and is very tinny, and the build quality is horrible. I've been very careful with these and the arm is about to snap from just wearing it on my head
>>
>>109486696
these models use normal dynamic drivers, if u need tougher build it comes at cost of more weight

Been rocking the lily audio genesis one for a couple months now and theyre fantastic, but I feel like I'm missing out on what they can do after reading a bunch of reviews saying you need a decent speaker amp to really drive them to their full potential. Earphones not headphones. 4chan doesn't allow me to post images. Search for soundcore v20i or soundpeats pearclip.
Why? Headphones are too bulky for my usecase (random calls in office, light gym/runs, casual use in general). And particularly, this is way over budget

I watched a Edifier R1280DB unbox and the video mentioned you can't control the volume from the OS. You have to use the knob. Is that the case for all the speakers with knobs?
>>
>>109498620
You can control the volume from the OS with the non- db version on windows. If you use a tv it can be different story depending on their spyware OS garbage.
Still I wouldnt rec them since the power supply broke only after a few years
>>
>>109498802
I don't know much about speakers so when I prompted gpt I was told anything with cable cant be controlled by an OS unless it has a usb connection. Is that true?
>>
>>109498909
Active speaker vol control works same as with headphones connected to a jack, eg the OS can control the volume with headphones

Passive speakers then require an amp between the pc and the speakers and I never used that setup.
>>
>>109498620
maybe i'm retarded, but can't you just set the volume knob to the max (or whichever maximum volume you're comfortable with) and then control the volume through the os? should achieve the same end result, you're just doing the volume adjustment in a fully digital manner (which isn't really an issue especially if you're outputting 24/32 bits)
>Is that the case for all the speakers with knobs?
well the creative pebble v3/pro have usb volume control with the os plus a knob (that rotates freely rather than a set range), adjusting the physical knob adjusts your windows volume (you'll see the volume flyout like when doing so through your keyboard) so i guess not, probably not as common in bookshelf speakers though.

not only is that guaranteed to ruin the sound signature of any headphone but in this case the anc is going to get fucked as well, which is almost the entire point of these headphones
retard.

You can control everything from the OS, it's just most active speakers hiss so you'll want to have the OS volume as high as possible and speaker volume as low as possible.

not an audio expert by any means but after I accidentally broke the analog out of my motherboard I had to resort to Apple's dongle DAC for my DT 770 Pros and the audio sounds flatter. Would a better DAC help with this?
>>
>>109508927
yeah apple dongle doesnt have enough headroom especially if youre in the eu
its more of an amp problem than a dac problem but all dongles are 2 in 1
you're also limited by usb power

>>109508956
>especially if youre in the eu

>>
>>109509006
yeah that or gamble on an aliexpress dongle's longevity.
there are some affordable dacamps around or under 100 bucks by topping and the likes, anything more would be overkill for a DT 770 and might not outperform a 20 euro dongle anyways but having a proper knob is nice
>>
>>109507659
I had the pro and it was great, only thing that sounded better were large planars. But those 490's will last a lifetime they are built like a rock.

u can buy dongle but with more power, i think even jcally jm6 pro will be enough. U can ored most of that shit from aliexpress or chinks stores with audio like shenzenaudio, hifigo, linsoul. Desktop DAC/AMP combo will be bit more expensive but will offer more power and probably more pleasing experience

double check required power because i didnt used it with high ohm headpones. For bit more u have dongles like moondrop pro 2 or crinear protocol max with build in eq and more power. Also I have less than zero interest in expensive cables. I don't believe for one moment that it's going to affect sound quality at all.
>>
>>109514663
i meant around 20-30USD range cables, I am not talking about how they sound because thats meme. They are just nicer to work with than stock cables in some cases. 300usd cable isnt even that expensive if u dive into weird audiophile snake oil shit

490 pro is really good headpos. I almost think that if u plan to use 490 pro with ur new headpos it would be better choice to go with something planar driver, just for sake of change.

Yeah ive been a bit apprehensive cause I keep hearing about how easy it is to break planars and how they start crinkling after a few years. im not the most careful or easy on his stuff owner either, I would be butthurt spending 1k+ on a headphone that only lasts 2 years instead of 20+
>>
>>109507491
They're pretty great, I got some used for £40 because they were my childhood headphones

Neat piece of consumer audio history if nothing else

yeap, they are more fragile but you cant destroy it by puting fingers in wrong place. What can kill them:
-drop from desk
-moisture so no using it after shower or in super hot and humid weather
-u need to be gentle when put them on your head, especially when pads are not vented with holes, pressure spike can crinkle drivers or even rip them
But im using them for years and nothing happens

went back to my old O2 for the lulz after years of running a Singxer SA-1
output power aside, I'm pretty sure it's just as good
figures
>>
>>109519241
was the singxer modded or not and did you run it balanced?
>>
>>109519241
I've been running my (lightly modded) O2 for ages and it's still great. The original BOM is a bit dated but the design holds up fine.

Is it normal for Sennheiser headphones to smell like Zyklon B or whatever other chemical when opening and wearing them?
It seems the chemicals and VOC they use for sealing the driver or manufacturing the earpads causes me allergic migraine aura and airway irritation(esp my throat) symptoms, it's not quite like migraine sufferers who get awful headaches for hours from VOCs but bad enough to confirm that at least their HD 480 PRO models emit harmful levels of VOCs and a bad smell.
Anyone else in the same case? wether the smell distracted you or gave you full on migraines, i'm certain it *is* Sennheiser's fault, no other headphone brand did this to me or smelled like that, googling it i could find people complaining about similar problems on their Momentum and 6xx series.

you could try the jumper mod and see if it makes a difference but it voids the warranty
>>
>>109517839
>drop from desk
Unlikely but maybe
>moisture so no using it after shower or in super hot and humid weather
I live in Georgia. Hell swamp. Not ideal
>be gentle
I know id mess up eventually cause im not careful with headphones
>>
>>109520597
I heard HEDD smells like a chemical waste dump too and both are made in Germany so that might just be a German thing.
>>
>>109521062
it's no longer under warranty so I might as well open it up but I have a feeling the jumper mod is just another one of head-fi's hallucinations
>>
>>109517517
sound on them is just decent but yeah, pretty cool these have lasted since middle school.

i simply refuse to buy any headphones made in china

What if it's designed in Los Angeles or Germany?

Narrows down your options to Grados, certain Focals, a couple of flagship Denons and Fostexes, and making your own Capra Audio build with self-sourced parts and a 3D printer, basically

Focal is a scam, they said on some audiofool factory tour video that their headphone QC ensures the headphones do not have more than 0.5db imbalance
When i bought their Lensys(couldn't find Azurys and preferred the color anyway) what i got is 1 to 1.5db imbalance, centered sounds that seemed to always come from the northeast/northwest and headphones so small and tight i'd believe it was built for multicentenary 142cm nojalolis, at least the sound was decent if you ignored the dip at 2khz and weirdness near 3khz and the beyer-like peak near 8.5khz.
Hopefully the refund process went smoothly, also if you want to buy earpads you have to contact them and pray it's in stock and it won't be out of stock for months, awful experience.
The only good thing is the aesthetics and the timbre??
Also for some reason the azurys has been out of stock or difficult to find for months even in france, wtf is happening at Focal?? they lie and act like they don't even try to make and sell things...

I just bought some used speakers off eBay, they are on the way and I don't really care if they are hi-fi approved, but apparently they are "5.1". Now, I didn't really understand this at the time of ordering, but apparently this means my music and old ass dos and ps1 games might not support this feature. I honestly assumed the extra speakers didn't need extra audio, but apparently all my stuff now needs center, back, and subwoofer audio channels? So what will happen? Will my random music off of Soulseek sound inconsistent with my speakers? Will my dos games sound flat in comparison? Will I need to start finding specific movie torrents with "5.1 audio"? What the fuck did I just get myself into. Even worse I'm on Linux so god only knows if I can get "5.1 audio" or whatever. Should I just unplug all the speakers besides left and right? This has made me incredibly anxious and I am honestly paralized. I might just throw them out. Please help me, I am very retarded.
>>
>>109523194
you can only plug two speakers and the subwoofer if you prefer standard stereo audio
many games support more than 2 speakers and kino torrents with dolby 5.1 audio are generally easy to find
for stereo audio afaik either it will upmix to 5.1 or it will only use the LR speakers and subwoofer
>>
>>109523219
>many games support more than 2 speakers
Okay, I'll just have to look into it, I mostly play doom 2 and emulate some games.
>for stereo audio afaik either it will upmix to 5.1 or it will only use the LR speakers and subwoofer
Okay, so what does this mean in a practical sense? Will my "upmixxed" music sound worse? Can I find music that has full "5.1" mixing? This is my biggest concern, I listen to loads of random music from the 60s to present year, even some video game/movie rips, and lots of random garbage I find off the internet.

i don't think it has to do with being french, beyerdynamic has gone to shit too, i mean they have made the single worst wireless headphone ever(amiron wireless and lagoon anc) with a qualcomm dac that permanently hisses with one channel that buzzes(not a manufacturing defect, they are all like that) and now they got bought by chinese people
if beyer's wireless offerings are not world's worst then i wonder how tf is it possible to do worse than that.
>>
>>109523270
generally if it's not some dolby dsp it will just mean that the backleft and front left channel will play the same signal for example, at worst if you don't like it you should be able to mute or unplug the back speakers and be done with it
since you're on linux the behavior should be configurable, depends
>>
>>109523302
What about the center speaker? Doesn't that have its own audio too?
>>
>>109523282
At least the Amiron Wireless introduced those foam discs that make the treble on the Tygr 300 bearable so it's made one positive contribution to the headphone world
>>
>>109477097
Oh those look really nice. Too bad they came out in 2016. Fuck you
