Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:

>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.

>Harman and JM-1 ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.

>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to QC issues and hype cycles? Nope.

>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.

>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.

>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.

>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.

Saying you know how mixing works when you don't even know how panning works simply means you don't know how mixing works. Off all the times to not use an LLM you always choose the one that makes you look the most retarded. Make no mistake. Every human, forum, book and video in the world disagrees with you on this issue.

I know how it works. You don't which is why you spew all this cope- to cover the reality that you either can't wrap your head around it, or simply do not want to accept it. It's pure delusion and you're in denial.
>Every human, forum, book and video in the world disagrees with you on this issue.

no. it's spatially arranging sounds in the stereo mix. you seem to think that the sounds are in mono and their placement is just lowering their volume in whatever channel they're in.
your seem to reduce what you don't understand down to too simple, yet flawed way of looking at the whole picture.

What is a good neutral target curve for music production?

you need to feel the bass - adjust it
you need even mids - adjust it
you need even treble and to kill resonances - adjust it

start with a population average df and go from there, the paradox is that you are not an average, so there's no one-size-fits-all

I've been experiencing ear and head fatigue with my cans. After lurking this general and watching a few vids, I decided to solve the problem with an IEM.
Ordered the Truther Gates for my first experience and a generic/ODM CX31993+MAX97220 DAC (Yes, I know about the possible "hiss").
If things go smoohly, I've already decided to pickup the Zero:Blue 2 as my second pair of IEM, and will invest into a more solid $30-45 portable DAC.

Sine sweep helps you find peaks in the treble. The graph is different from what you're going to hear in that region. Especially useful for headphones since their treble is so bad, but useful for IEMs too.

>>109489380
if u hear peaks in music u dont know what fq are they. so if u go with sine sweep u can find that peak pretty easly with exact fq number so u can tone it down with EQ.

One of the reasons modern life sucks so much is how inane everything can be. For example, you need a PhD in everything you want to do or try. Such as buying a simple ear plug for listening to music with. You can't buy X because it doesn't have ab or c. And Y is a shit brand... didn't you know that already?

Imagine you spend 6 months reading countless reddit shitposts, forum threads and lurking these threads to learn about which brands are reliable and what the 15 different types of technology features they have so you can finally make a purchase that isn't a complete fucking waste of time. Then you finally take the plunge, you spend $140 on a beautiful set with your favourite colours and anime character on them, and you upload a photo to show people what you bought. Then some faggot posts "absolute shit" at your post that everyone else ignores.

That's what I found to be honest. In the old days you could just go to a shop and buy something and enjoy it. But not any more.
>>
>>109489408
im not torturing myself, im buying only good stuff, if it needs EQ i just return that shit
>>
>>109489380
The lower treble peak on IEMs is a double of your fundamental frequency(open tube vs sealed tube) additionally modified by the insertion depth. so it's pretty much guaranteed to not be accurate. Headphones are all kinds of fucked up, may or may not be accurate. Most likely not because firing drivers from one side can't produce DF response. The overall tonality can't be judged by sweeps, yes. Sweeps are only good for peaks.

How?
I chose the Gates for their v-shap (harmon). The Zero:Blue 2's are just the Gates with a little more bass/treble and smaller nozzles for comfort. Looking at reviews/graphs, I likely won't be using the 5ohm resistor.
>>
Are expensive tips meme?
I see many crazy designs like with copper or steel core and stuff like that, what your go too? I bought pack of coffee and kbear ear tips long time ago but mainly I'm using stock tips that comes with iems.
And another question, sometimes it feels like iem nozzle is at different angle than angle of my ear canal, so fit is bad due to that. Is there some kind of ear tips but with some sort of pivot that can be used as connection between that two different angles? Everything I tried is to rigid for that, it need to be some sort of pivot.

>>
>>109489562
Expensive ones are probably a meme yes, but tips can impact your experience with iems a lot. For me insertion depth, comfort, seal makes a huge difference. E.g. I can't use spinfit w1s because something about the material doesn't make a good seal for me, so I don't get a lot of slam. My go to is Final Audio Type E.

>Is there some kind of ear tips but with some sort of pivot that can be used as connection between that two different angles?
Not sure, but double flange tips could help, or tips with softer material like the Final Audio. Dunu S&S has grip, but grippy tips are not as comfortable for longer sessions.

I meant something like right picture, so eartip that can be bend slightly do it go straight into ear canal (proportions are off so angle isn't that extreme) Some of iems feet like a glove and some of them just won't work for me and I think it's just my ear canal a iem nozzle isn't exactly in parallel to each other. I have dunu sns but it's not that, I really must have some sort of bending mechanism inside because if I bend normal eartip tube inside just get squished
>>
>>109490301
Are you sure you are putting in iems correctly? You could angle your iems with smaller shells. Sometimes ear hooks can be too rigid preventing a good fit, put your iems in without hooking over your ears first see if it helps. Or maybe get a triple flange and shove it in there.
>>
>>109490301
spinfit. neo is their newest all-rounder. w1 is for longer nozzles.
the burden is on you to estimate your correct size.
good cheap alternatives: audiosense s400

>>
>>109490464
oh yes for sure, i have that issue only with certain iems, usually with big metal shells, keep in mind that angles in drawing are too big, I just need longer eartip that can pivot around slightly. Almost every eartip on longer side i have its too rigid to do that or like dunu s&s too soft so instead of pivoting it gets crushed on side of my earcanal

Nice drawing. Unfortunately I'm out of recs, the only thing I suggest is trying tips with longer stem, then place at the end of the nozzle, maybe it'll let you bend it when you insert. Perhaps you just discovered a new market segment for tips that you are describing, create a business to manufacture tips that pivot at the stem.

every time you're given a piece of information that remotely threatens your existing view, you find a way to reduce it down to elementary level of misuse and understanding to tailor-fit your already decided view. you bastardize every piece of information given and when you're not sperging out hurling insults (which is indicative of either pure trolling or actual mental illness) or continuing to have a real conversation (which you prove time and again you are not capable of). you've pre-decided your warped nature. you pre-decided to ignore what a mixing board is, does, and how it shapes and forms every bit of audio going into your ears.

>you find a way to reduce it down to elementary level of misuse and understanding to tailor-fit your already decided view
Proper position supported by facts can not be misconstrued like that by "elementary level of misuse". It only proves that you don't have one.
What are you even doing right now? Simply crying that you were owned by facts and logic? How is this not trolling?
By the way nobody even cares if FR=techs or not except retarded tech freaks like yourself. If there's evidence that something outside of FR exists that influence "techs" just provide evidence - it is literally that easy. If it's real it's real process moves on.
Nobody has any stake in this... FR=techs is simply a conclusion that is supported by all research and information we have.

>In this two-part exploration of stereo panning techniques, Andy Stewart resuscitates the mixing tutorial concept last spotted in Issue 69, and explores how panning helps recreate three-dimensional space.
Andy Stewart? Who's that?
>Andy Stewart is a renowned Australian producer, mixing engineer, and owner of The Mill Studio.
Sooo let's see what this renowned mixing engineer tells us...
>Fundamentally, stereo panning is about placing a sound in a context, and that context is, in this case, our two speakers. What’s really happening to an audio signal when it’s panned is that more, equal amounts, or less of its voltage is being sent to the left or right speaker, creating the illusion that sound is coming from the far left, the far right, the middle, and so on. A guitar, for example, panned left-of-center in a stereo image is simply coming out of the left speaker at a greater volume than the right; pan it center and it’s coming from both speakers equally.

Thank you, anon. I really prefer to not use apple so I asked about the galaxy buds 3, but an anon said they weren't worth it. I'll look into the moondrops
>>
>>109502458
None of them will sound like their price, it's just an inherently flawed technology. The tips are not just for noise isolation. Apple has been making them the longest.
>>
>>109502458
Moondrop block sounds muddy to me, the space travels are better, but they aren't flat buds. Airpods gen 2 is still the best for that form factor imo.
>>
>>109490617
Spinfit has tips that do this, they're made so that the exterior dome can flex relative to the nozzle. W1s maybe I can't remember

are there any other open earphones that are comfortable like the apple earpods ? nice buds sound good but the circle on my ear are painful after a while. apple earpods are very comfy, and i've eq'd them to sound a lot better, but i'm curious what else is out there

>test your IEMs imaging abilities here https://imaging-lab.xyz/ for some hot fun.
did anybody actually try this? what are the expectations for accuracy for this?
>>
>>109503459
run several trials of your IEMs or headphones to gain a better understanding of how you perceive the spatial cues between all of them. it's a decent way to familiarize yourself with the relative differences between your sets, imaging-wise
>>
>>109503532
I did but there's pretty much 0 difference. L\R is pretty good on all of them and up\down is basically nonexistent (which also makes sense because even irl up\down positioning is not that great).
Should you spam "replay sound" or should you try to get it from 1 try? Also I don't think their sound engine is sufficient enough cause I had better experience with some video games.
>>
>>109503779
>should you try to get it from 1 try?
no definitely not. start with about 20 or so tries, gain some muscle memory from the cues and familiarize yourself with what the IEM is shooting for. it should be better to discern with other sets once you're used to going through so many trials.
honestly, some sets do suck with up and down, and the ones that are better, you might surprise yourself how close you're getting...depending on your gear, of course.
but yes, up/down can be a bitch, just depends on the set.
>>
>>109503826
>just depends on the set
which sets did you get the best results with?
>>
>>109503883
I haven't tried all of my sets yet. I'm coming up with averages for each POS from 10 sets of 26 samples of every one I test. So far I've only tested Chu with one session that scored 81.2, TKZK Ouranos with one session scoring 90.1, one session with CCA Hydro at 93.2, 3 sessions with PR2 scoring 92.8-93.4.
Still a lot of sessions to do if I really want to come up with an average for each. I figure 10 sessions running 20 or so samples should be fine.
Who knows, maybe it'll turn out the experiment itself ends up inconclusive at worst

i looks like w1 and neo have same tilting mechanims. But oh buy, they are expensive kek. Ill keep them in mind tho. I need to read some kind of guide or something like that about predicting effect on sound quality and so on.
I sold my Dunus and they are so good with quality tips that i really missing them.
>>
spinfits (at least w1) are consumables though imo, they lose their elasticity and texture and become slippery after x months. i dont get as good fit with mine anymore
>>
>>109504812
i had that shit for a while but despite price and soft silicion they cracked on inside wall. Tbh i might try spinfits but kbear07 and coffee eartips will remain as foundation, also i have to predict my size before buying them because whole set is worth more than cheaper iems.
I also might buy dunu titan (or something like that) just to get eartips because as i said, i liked their stuff

I dunno do you? I don't think there's a real one for IEMs. It's better to figure out where your length modes are first and go from there.

>budget (100-200), what i am asking its really specific so i can justify expenses
>idk about frequency response but i just like bases, really like atmospheric music and aphex twins
Need bluetooth DAC that has the following features
>Can be used wirelessly and as a usb dongle for pc and phone
>Has multi point bluetooth connection so that you can connect on several devices at once
>Has small form factor so that it can easily be carried as a clip or otherwise not be that much of a hassle to carry around

Extra points (it doubles as a mp3 player with specific storage. like picrel which would be ideal if it had multipoint bluetooth but it doesnt.)

Looking for another dac since mine just had the jack strips come off the pcb and have to send it to repair so might as well look for another one whenever it shits the bed again

are you? how did you get that from my post? i'm just making fun of how much importance some people place in it (for example saying everything needs eq)
>>
>>109506669
"everything needs eq" is a factual statement
>i'm just making fun
where's the punchline
>how much importance some people place in it
do you have any kind of reasoning behind this or?...
>>
>>109506665
Graphics EQs don't have bars in places where IEMs need adjustments, there were barely any tools to create PEQs and it was basically impossible to have PEQ on your phone. Even IEM graphs are a relatively recent thing.
>>
>>109506742
EQ apo released more than a decade ago
>Even IEM graphs are a relatively recent thing
it's been almost a decade too
dunno how recent is shit like parametric EQ for portable devices tho...
>>
>>109506795
APO can apply PEQ, but to design it you had to use something else. If you were a guy in 2020 and wanted to EQ properly you had to get a graph somehow(you had to pay crin to get graph files, digitize from a screenshot or rip from network inspector tool). Then you had to use REW to see that graph with EQ applied, because squig did not have the EQ tab. Then, if you wanted to have it on your phone, you needed to make an IR out of those files, root your phone, install viper and use the convolver. Most people only went as far as trying those dogshit presets to Harman from autoeq github. Before 2020 - lol. lmao even.
>>
>>109506684
>why dont you find my extreme views normal? explain yourself
this is the joke. hence the "two weeks"
