What are the pros and cons of using SD/ MicroSD cards instead of USB flash drives for data storage?

SD card + USB reader is basically the same as a flash drive but less convenient so I don't see a reason to use SD cards outside of hardware that specifically supports them with a slot.The market is fucked now but a year ago I would have said the best thing you can get for USB drive is a cheap nvme in enclosure. Even a cheap one is fast enough to make good use of USB3+

Also gave you the ability to move all photos/videos/documents between phones with just a few movements, but now it's gone from 99.9% of new phones because you gotta pay for cloud storage and/or better model, goyCons: worst durability out of all storage options, however they can still serve you for years with no issues (as long as you have bought legit Sandisk/Samsung one). I have a bunch of MicroSD cards that work to this day, and ironically they outlived the phones they were used on. And they are also pretty fragile so don't forget to remove them before you disassemble your Steam Deck lol

Has anyone here ever had an SD card (or other flash medium) lose its data after sitting for a while? I've been hearing about this phenomenon for 20+ years and have never experienced it myself, despite going through hundreds of cards in my time doing photography and videography work. Apparently people leave an SD card in a drawer for a few years, mount it, and find that the files have disappeared. I must be extremely lucky, because I can dig up off-brand compact flash cards from 2002 and everything is still there.

People didn't trust flash memory for video when it started replacing DV tapes in the mid 2000s. I just wonder whether or not it was as big of a deal as they made it out to be.
