>>109518894These are filesystems which define how data is stored at the os level. Ntfs is required for windows (which uses the nt kernel) because of its permission scheme. Fat32 is more widely compatible partly probably for licensing issues I'm not entirely sure. You can format hard drives FAT if you'd like but you run into the max single file size issues. Ntfs isn't required for hard drives. For example ext4 is the most common filesystem for Linux distros.
