I've been thinking of doing this rn actually. One thing i've noticed is middle click scroll is not on linux, but there's programs that return this. Little things like that, I'm seriously considering it because with ai it makes it extremely easy to troubleshoot, & there's never been less issues in general esp if you use something like cachyos from what i understand. The fact that just using windows kills your computer faster is reason enough to switch, they're literally raping your wallet in real time.
the short answer is the most pirated software on WindowsI am 90% committed to Linux though I have a small Windows 10 partition just because why not? Computers are tools and even though all my needs are met on Linux I do not care to tinker with Wine for FL Studio. Its easier for me to dual boot than do that.

>>109513810Yes, but browsers support it with a toggle which is where most of your scrolling happens anyway. I think its like this because normally linux uses middle click for pasting. Guess with more optionality you have to think about what you want, but for all these little things rest assured there's a simple program to install & get it working.

Some of them can still run with Wine though, especially if you strip DRM or use older versions of the software. Another workaround to use them is using a Windows VM. Another thing that you will lose are multiplayer videogames that rely on kernel level anticheat (doesn't apply if Linux is whitelisted by the devs). On the positive side, you will lose all Windows telemetry, spyware and Microsoft installed backdoors.

>>109513117>What do I lose if I go from Windows 10 to LinuxI've run LInux for 5 years now, ever since Windows refused to run large USB drives efficiently and would lag to unusability. You need to be careful with USB drive format and filenames, NTFS format has some bugs that can make the drive halt in Linux, no data loss, just need to unplug it and scandsk fix it. Linux also allows weird filename characters that will make Windows barf and make disk corruption, so be careful about filenames. Scandsk all USB drives on a routine basis just in case.

>>109513810>>109513820On KDE Wayland, you can enable a feature where holding the middlemousebutton and moving the mouse acts a bit like scrolling on a trackpad. It's not the same as autoscroll but I find it a better solution for scrolling through large amounts of content. Feels a bit more natural and is easier to control because it's just mapping mouse movement to scroll movement, as opposed to having a virtual joystick to control. It also works everywhere as opposed to Windows autoscroll which always only worked in like two applications.Note this will make it impossible to press&hold middlemouse in other applications (clicks are fine, just press&hold) so if you have an application that needs this functionality this might not be for you. I wonder if it's possible to toggle this functionality for specific window classes somehow.

>>109513117you lose performance in DirectX 12 gaymesthats literally it
>>109513117You lose the ability to run some Windows software. Especially software that depends on Windows drivers, such as anti cheat programs. Proprietary shit WILL cause issues. If you rely on Microsoft 365 shit - Teams, OneDrive, Outlook (especially for Calendar) - good fucking luck. Microsoft made this as painful as possible. Mods are also hit or miss, if you're like me and you play old shit that depends on DLL overrides, good fucking luck. Complete coin toss. Some obscure hardware that doesn't have Linux drivers might not work. You're much more on your own. Even the user friendly Linux distros expect you to be a proper sysadmin. Sometimes shit will just break and you will have to figure out why. I really think you should use btrfs, configure the system to make regular snapshots and add them to grub so you can quickly revert to a working config when, not if (it will) your system fucks itself. But in exchange, you're getting rid of Microjeet's vibe coded shit OS, all the three letter agency and ad-jew surveillance shit you can't turn off, performance will be better, the system is much more customizable (yes, even gnome. learn about extensions) so when something annoys you, you can actually change it rather than just quietly malding about it...

>>109513117You lose mspaint, the good one if you're using windows 10
>>109513117Depends entirely on what you actually run.GPU: On Radeon, you're a first-class citizen on Linux. You'll get roughly 90% of Windows performance up to beating it, depending on the games you play. On nvidia, Turing (RTX 20 / GTX 16) or newer is fine for the most part.Games: Anti-cheat is the real issue, and it's a publisher choice. EAC and BattlEye both have working Linux runtimes; devs have to enable them. Check ProtonDB or AreWeAntiCheatyet and compare it to your library to see the situation.Apps: No Adobe suite. No desktop MS Office (you'll have to use Only Office or LibreOffice as replacements). Resolve is native, but the free version won't do H.264/AAC. If your workflow is locked to any of those, don't switch.Peripherals: OpenRGB, CoolerControl, and liquidctl cover most fans/AIOs/RGB. Boutique controllers and AIO LCD screens are hit or miss; look up your specific hardware first. What you get: A lighter OS with no telemetry and no forced updates. But I'm also not going to sit here and pretend that Linux is a plug-and-play experience. If you use a computer beyond turning it on and opening a web browser, you will eventually have to tinker, and if you don't have the tolerance for that, Linux probably isn't for you

>>109513117Nothing. Unless you're a professional graphic designer or videographer (and let's face it, if that were the case you'd be using macOS) you truly lose nothing. What you will gain is a new skill set, and an understanding of how to do the same things in a different way. Truthfully, with AI there is no better time to be a Linux user. One of the major bonuses to using Linux has always been that if some program is missing a feature you want/need, or you don't like the way it does something, you could download the source and change it but the catch was that you needed to be a programmer to do it. Now with AI that's no longer the case. You can download the source, then fire up codex or opencode in the source dir and tell it what you want and it'll make that happen.
