its 2026 surely most of you have switched to 4k by now? if not why havent you?
>>
I like 1440p more.
>>
None of my 1440p monitors have died yet.
>>
Because the games I play are 1024x768 max, so I dont need more.

I need 100% scaling so I'm sticking with 1440p
>>
My eyes ain't as good as they were, but not bad enough to admit they're failing
>>
Everything is too small on 4k. What's the point when you have to scale everything up to make it useable again? 4k is just useless and not worth it imo
>>
>>109515866
I can't decide whether to go for for an SDR display, one with local dimming, or a home office monitor as opposed to a high refresh rate monitor.

Oh and the emergence of 5K displays makes me have a grass is greener effect.
>>
>>109515866
I been using 4k for like 10 years now
>>
>>109515866
I switched to 4k all the way back in 2015. It's been over a decade since.
>>
>>109515866

>Exit upscaled app or game
>Everything is a mess now

Lol, no
>>

wtf are you hallucinating about?
>>
>>109515866
I got a 4k tv for free. I set it up in my room where the PC is and now with Valve's Big Picture Mode I'm using my PC as a console for a few days now. Not sure if the reason is because it is TV or what but picture definetly seems clearer, even on old games.
Still, with my 9070xt most modern games need FSR to have stable 60fps.
>>
because they need an insanely powerful gpu to properly utilize
>>
>>109515866
use case other than inflating hardware requirements?
>>
>>109515866
i have a 2160p monitor just because i wanted a 32 inch monitor but didn't want ultrawide because gaming compatability made ultrawide a chore, and they basically only come in this resolution at this size
i still output at 1440p because the only games that run acceptably on modern hardware at 2160p don't have the fidelity to take advantage of it
the biggest advantage to borderline unusably high resolution is that you dont need to worry about shit looking like hot garbage when you use a lower res like you used to with 720 and 1080
>>
>finally switch to 4K
>it's 27" so I need 150% scaling
>>
Just recently upgraded to 6k after ~7 years of 4k. It's mind boggling that people still think 1440p or even 1080p is good enough when you can literally see the subpixels at normal viewing distance on a 27in screen.

>>109516238
I have a 9070xt also and the only games I've tested that can't do native 6k60 are UE5 crap, and even those run fine at 4k max settings. What absolute garbage are you playing that even 4k needs upscaling?
>>
>>109515866
yeah been using for 4k for half a decade. i think 1440p is still defensible but 1080 is weird atp

waiting for either QD-OLED + RGB stripe + 32" or the fabled QDEL
I had doubts about my 9070 XT doing too well in 4k but had an epiphany and realized I don't need to play video games
I also got a 18" 1600p monitor for use in portrait mode recently and realized the PPI from my main 1440p 27" monitor is abysmal
apparently, you can also do integer scaling shenanigans to essentially play games in 1080p on a 4k screen, which could be a way to cope with insufficient GPU horsepower
>>
>>109515866
Still have 1440p monitor, what's the point of upgrading exactly? It looks nice already.
>>
>>109515866
I don't see the need to move past 1080p
>>
>>109515866
Ultra wide, curved, OLED is king right now. 4k requires better GPU(LOL at upgrading in this market) and scaling is still shit no matter what OS you choose. You will inevitably have one app that won't scale right so you can't read the tiny text in the tiny UI.

>>109515866
Why buy 4k if you have to use scaling with it? Doesn't it defeat the whole point?
1440p is the highest actually practical resolution.
>>
>>109515866
I use a 1920x1080 24" monitor. Bought a 27" OLED monitor and it's alright for watching movies but I moved it to be my secondary monitor after a couple weeks. Did the same with another 1440p monitor I had. I just like the smaller size of 1080p monitor. I will say though Asus is supposedly making a 24" OLED thats 500hz or whatever and I will probably try that to see if it would be good enough to replace my current BenQ 360hz monitor.
>>
>>109515866
1440p is easier to drive, more FPS in games, no need to upscale UI.
>>
>>109515866
>surely
>if not
make up your mind you fucking retard.
>>
>>109515866
1440p ultrawide is better
the only competition for that is 5k2k but current gpus are too slow for 1.33x 4k
>>
>>109515866
I had a 40" 4K monitor (one of those Korean B rated ones - which still works btw) back when /g/ was still coping about not using SSDs (which I also had).
>>
Because 1080p is sufficient.
If my monitor dies I'll consider higher resolutions. But my monitor works and I don't need anything new
>>
>>109517747
i bought some gigabyte 240hz 1440p monitor on newegg for like 300 dollars in 2024 and it was nice but I went back to my 1080p monitor after a bit I just like 1080 more. Also that monitor died after like a year and I just used it as a secondary monitor 95% of the time so idk if it was just a lemon or what but it turned me off gigabyte monitors
>>
>>109515866
What is the point of 4k. Modern games barely have 480p worth of detail due to the layers of Vaseline smear filters. And streaming video has such terrible bit rate that 4k is similarly pointless.
>>
>>109515866
Yeah, but I kind of want a 1440p/720p oled monitor but that shit is taxed to high hell.
>>
>>109515866
I have a 4k screen but a 3060 so I play games at 1080p
>>
>>109518592
I'd probably end up doing the same, would only get a 4k miniled with +1000 dimming zones or an oled for movies and end up turning on integer scaling down to 1080p for gaming or using the other 1440p monitor if I've got enough juice for it.
>>
>>109515866
Because there's no way I can upgrade to 4K without compromising on something
>Current monitor is 24" 1080p 144hz
>If I buy 144+ hz, it's gonna be 27"+, which I don't want
>If I buy 24", it's gonna be 60hz, which I don't want
Wake me up when there's a 24" (or even better, 21") 4K OLED that does 144+ hz
>>
>>109515866
Isn't the monitor you have there not a 4k monitor? Yes I have a 4k oled.

>triple 1440p 165hz
>~$600
My desktop can handle it fine, docked laptops are iffy and can't really push more than 144hz. I run 120 on two and 60 on the third to keep it stable.
Until laptops can comfortably handle triple 4k there's no need to upgrade.

4k is a meme. You are being upsold on pixels that you can't even see just to take it home and waste precious compute power. I upgraded to 1080p at 120hz just a few months ago and there's no reason anyone should need anything more.
>inb4 hardwarelets give their input
I have a 5070 TI and it's going to last for more than ten years. You can't say the same.
>>
>>109515866
I got 2160p for gayming, 1440p for the rest.
Websites are just too shit along with most software for 2160p sadly.
>>
1080p is fine
i had a 4k monitor, realized it looks the same but is harder to run everything on, now i have a 1080p monitor and thats way easier to run everything on

>>
>>109515866
4k is great if you're doing a lot of reading, coding etc. Up the scaling a bit and it's noticeably clearer than 1440p and 1080p looks like a blurry mess. For gaming even 1440p is overkill imo; once you're at 1080p a higher refresh rate makes for a better gaming experience given how much movement there is on screen. Just my 2c's for any niggers on here thinking about buying a screen (and yes, I said nigger so you faggots know I'm not some niggerlicous LLM bot faggot). Peace.
>>
>>109523425
It's understandable if he's playing unoptimized modern AAA slop without framegen
>>
I'm still using 1080p and I see no need to progress further since I'm losing interest in video games since they're so fucking shit. I bought a 4k TV back in like 2017 and I watched it maybe 5 times before I gave it away to my parents in 2021. What point is there in worrying about 4k when its just basic desktop apps? I hardly use my GPU for gaming either, It gets more use doing AI models.
>>
>>109515866
1440p is all I need.
