What AI-based businesses are actually making money and not just surviving off investor gibs?

Here's a comprehensive list of AI-based businesses that are actually making money and not just surviving off investor gibs:
>>
>>109537023
They are probably paying most of that to record labels at this point. I'm sure they were "acquired" at a discount in a quiet way to settle as much.

Midjourney is the other that comes to mind. What they both have in common is providing a service people like and charging a subscription fee for it. Suno has wrecked what made their service compelling so I expect their revenue will shift toward being used as a back-end for the Industry but Midjourney has maintained quality and improved the product. The more products offer image-generation the better MJ looks in comparison.

Other AI-based companies are mostly tools for automating various workflows at corporate jobs. Things like packages to handle accounting, shipping, revenue, etc. Any boring office job where someone just moved numbers from one box to another using somewhat basic calculations is being automated away. Those jobs were always bullshit so no one should be surprised. This revenue will end up captured by the big software companies who will acquire or copy/compete anyone whose algos turn out to be really useful for many corporate customers.

"AI" is better understood as a new suite of software products. It's similar to what happened in the 1980's as companies first started computering their operations.

plus its the valuation of suno, actually
not their revenue
which sits at 300M
apparently they didnt disclose either their running costs or profits so you can be sure theyre in the red

registering actual profit is a turbo boost to their valuation, they wouldnt have missed the opportunity

https://valueaddvc.com/blog/suno-ai-valuation-2026-5-4b-round-300m-arr-and-the-business-model-behind-ai-music
>>
>>109537087
You have to guess that operating costs for something like Suno are extremely high. Audio is very high data usage.
>>
>>109537194
finance logic points to the same.
they 100% are deeply in the red, we would have seen projections until profitability otherwise (as marketing device)
>>
>>109537247
Suno is in a lot of trouble IMO. They've gimped the most useful feature of their tool for several months and user cancellations are probably through the roof. This isn't one of those "I'm annoyed by this change and I'm a redditor stomping my feet" situations it is a critical, core feature that justified the monthly spend on Suno. Without it you can't do anything useful so people see no reason to maintain their subscriptions.
>>
>>109537402
hmm.
could be greed, could be that running costs are too high, hard to judge with the info we have at our disposal, i think
>>
>>109537015
nvidia
>>
>>109537494
The music industry is uniquely corrupt and has its fingers in the courts deeper than you can imagine. What's going on is that they're taking control of it in the background. It may be able to generate paper profits as a tool for the industry but as a consumer-driven product it's going to be rekt by open source models. This is true for many services. The reality is that Suno isn't that good at music generation it's just that it was the first one to make it work and accessible. They have no moat basically.
>>
>>109537521
they profit off the hardware, not the technology, which is the important distinction no one cares about
>>
>>109537521
Nvidia surely makes money but not nearly as much as their valuation implies. Nvidia is obviously loaded with financial fraud.
>>
>>109537560
heh, you dont need a moat if you have backers
but now that i went more into the numbers
they actually dont seem to be that deep in the red after all, maybe theyre at 50% of their costs

or they massaged the revenue numbers, or both

pump and dump scheme maybe?
i suppose the financeers know about the upcoming opensourced models
or maybe they dont, and this is a bubble

i find the presence of nvidia in the listing- curious
they invested uncharacteristically little money

maybe suno were actually cooking something
or maybe its just an early buy in into a pump and dump scheme

i dont know, i dont have enough knowledge or information to make myself a definitive opinion
but also the numbers dont look like what i expect either from an obvious pump and dump, or from a dying company
>>
>>109537560
>>109537716
or maybe it is a pump and dump but going slowly, methodically
because the ai companies seem to try to delay their ipo's

iunno, man, im out of my depth here
but my nose tells me that theres something lurking beneath the calm waters, theres a pattern somewhere
>>
>>109537716
>trusting some LLM output
bro

Let me explain something to you: Suno is a private company so their financials are by definition not public. None of us know what their numbers are and the LLM does not either.
>>
>>109537763
nah, perplexity is ok
its literally been created with the idea of being an ai-augmented search engine
it does a decent job at providing sources, summarising shit

like any llm it has a search depth limit, but its pretty good for quick lookups
>>
>>109537758
All VC-funded tools are a Pump and Dump by a certain defiintion.

The situation is the technology exists and they know consumers will want it but the capital costs to get it up and running at scale are high, so some rich people give someone money who claims to be able to do it in exchange for a piece of ownership. In the case of Suno they succeeded in delivering the product, which is usually great. The problem is that they're dealing with the Music Industry, which has all kinds of tangled laws and regulations to protect it and shave nickels off of every layer of utilization. You basically cannot do anything with copyrighted music without involving them and getting their permission and they are notoriously willing to ignore and fight new technologies.

For the music industry is control that is paramount and that's why they're not shutting down Suno just taking control of it. That they have gutted the best feature of the consumer product is classic Music Industry. Many tards will keep paying but the large majority will leave and it will prevent Suno from becoming a behemoth. That's fine with the music industry. The VC will be cashed out and the Industry will wear Suno as a skinsuit but the original product will no longer be available for consumers. They will move on to others offering the same but not for profit, which is how you avoid the Industry.

tl;dr: You can't sell a product like this and the tech isn't that hard so the consumer-grade product Suno was profiting from the last couple of years will end up free and local. In practice what is going on right now is they are delaying it 2-3 years.
>>
>>109537758
the DOD considers AI a strategic weapon (note how many of the firms are TLA-affiliated, like alphabet) and is "directing" money from pension funds and totally-not-federal investment firms into this money pit as a practical means of keeping the project off the fed budget (and fiscal oversight)

there's a nearly infinite amount of hanger-ons and opportunists trying to feed off the scraps

there, now you know why no one's seriously trying to make money
>>
>>109537763
but yeah, sure, all that is based on what suno and its investors *said*
the alternative is pre-supposing its all a lie, but then i dont have any info to work with
i cant estimate suno's numbers from other sources
>>
>>109537812
so a hostile takeover of sorts. interesting.
tx for the insight.
>>
>>109537822
>because its all on governmental budget so nobody gives a fuck
this absolutely makes sense.
even better- it makes everything else make sense
>>
>>109537824
What you can do is estimate the cost to run their service. What we know is that the amount of compute needed for the levels of data on the back-end at Suno are HUGE. OpenAI shut down their video generator (Sora iirc) because it cost too much to run it. Audio is extremely high-data, more than you probably realize. There are numerous indicators on Suno that the operation is not a top-flight one technically speaking.

A service like this COULD exist and be more efficiently run but then you run into the larger issue of fighting the Music Industry in court. You really need to appreciate the significance of this - they are able to interfere to an extent that makes a product like Suno non-viable.

Non-viable if hosted in the West, that is.
>>
>>109537015
NVIDIA is selling the shovels. That's all.

https://isaiprofitable.com/
>>
>>109537867
Nvidia is selling far fewer shovels than they claim to be selling. Look at how many shovels they delivered, not "sold."
>>
>>109537853
even worse, off the government budget but on the public's tab
>>
>>109537015
Traders. Not because they use AI.
>>
>>109537015
The only industry actively using AI bullshit is communications.
>>
>>109537932
sigh... it always is
but if the whole thing is made to carry its own weight at IPO then the early investors can liquidate
including the usgov and pension funds
with us gov keeping controlling stakes in what actually works, and matter
with cargo cultists left holding a bag that could very well take 12 months to unravel

this whole thing could still be turned into a risky, but sound political move
but the cynic in me expects that this will be another occasion to destroy generational wealth in a glorious bubble, or, short of that, that the gains for the taxpayer will be entirely eaten up by inflation
>>
>>109537015
Judging by the bailout Nvidia just got not even the shovel salesmen kek
>>
>>109537859
>Audio is extremely high-data, more than you probably realize.
more than i certainly realize
i have no knowledge in this specific field
despite working on an ML project.
its not gen-ai, and i dont run it on the cloud

>You really need to appreciate the significance of this - they are able to interfere to an extent that makes a product like Suno non-viable.
this however i 100% uderstand. i believe its called "regulatory capture" in finance lingo

>Non-viable if hosted in the West, that is.
even if hosted abroad they could get dns, or even ip-blocked
maybe they could make things work if they moved to a poor country
but theres still the problem of compute costs... only now the revenue is downsized to the scale of the 3rd world
im not sure if operating from outside the west is even viable
>>
>>109537521
ca-ching!

These discussions don't happen on the internet anymore. I could list a few but they could get ripped apart by bad faith anons, who won't accept any answer they don't like.
>>
>>109538211
>These discussions don't happen on the internet anymore.
youre in one right now
grow a thicker skin + not everyone on this board is a troll
++ bad faith anons are usually retarded and its not hard to make a public joke out of them
>>
Does he know?
>>
>>109537015
Like in any gold rush:
The ones selling the shov- the hardware.
>>
>>109538343
I vibecoded the best beat chopping workflow in history. And it's all MINE MINE MINE.

I'm not letting one shovel in my MINE! It's MINE.

YOU CAN'T HAVE IT

$1 trillion dollars final offer. firm. I know what I got.
>>
>>109538506
I'll pay you $2 trillion in 2 years. Just trust me I'm good for it.
>>
>>109538157
the whole situation is so crazy
does it make sense to anybody or are people just riding the wave until the sky falls?
>>
>>109540123
This is how the economy works. It's debt based and they will print debt until they get their outcome. Surveillance state where everyone is tracked. The money they print is imaginary. But the power they gain over us is limitless
