PREFER devices which can take standard pen cells.I also submit that touch screens be shunned in favor of gadgets with buttons, but that's another issue that can be tackled separately.

3xAAA or 3xAA is still common because a lot of modern electronics/microcontrollers run off 5V or 3.3V.Anything that would have used C or D or 9V in the past now uses multi-AA or an internal rechargeable battery. Stuff is more power-efficient now
Agreed except everything should take 18650s
As long as the batteries aren't glued in or some extremely unusual format it's usually not that hard to replace lithium batteries. Usually just requires a screwdriver and a bit of time. High energy devices usually just take 18650s.

>>109539846Wireless is a pain in the ass though. I remember when Bluetooth came out, it was positioned as a possible replacement for serial cables. It was creeping featuritis, now it's everything. Heck for a while Intel had beam-able digital video but they quit doing that after only a year or so, I haven't tried it myself but I bet it splattered like mad or something.

By requiring that you cant just change the batteries out, it means you must buy a new device. Which makes shareholders happy as the user is forced to buy more product. Usually a new one. If everyone went back to rechargable AA batteries, think of how sad shareholders and companies would be if people just started only buying an item once and using it for many years. How would they keep giving us a marginally better (sometimes worse) "new and improved" model of phone or computer each year? Think man think!
