Thoughts on the Proton ecosystem?
I only use their free vpn because it’s the best free one. Really miss the ability to select servers though. But otherwise it does the job. It’s not that often I need it fir something that’s geoblocked.I would be very surprised if they don’t remove the unlimited bandwidth soon though. Then windscribe is orobably the better choice of a free vpn.
Threat model?
I got their free email thing but haven't used it much yet.Planning on moving all my critical stuff away from Jewgle and other US megacorps eventually. Leaving only throwaway stuff on thoseI should just get to it one day and move everything, been procrastinating

I have it. If you have tools you already like to use, avoid them. Their mail doesn't integrate with 3rd party tools unless you use Bridge on the desktop. Calendar doesn't really integrate with others either. Pass on the phone is barely functional. It rarely detects that it needs to fill in a field. I like their aliasing for hiding my email addresses for bullshit sites. I continue to use them but wish I had a better option for my use case.

>>109542404I prefer not to be tied to one single ecosystem. Both in terms of the amount of data they can collect in one profile, but also just to not have all my eggs in one basket if something happens. I do use Protonmail however since it's marginally better than the other big alternatives.
I use Proton Pass. Much simpler than Bitwarden

>>109546976Depends on how you use it.If you fully trust the ecosystem a compromise of your email means a compromise of your family photos, your contacts, personal files, etc. Point is the splash radius of the damage isn't just much broader but also instant. If someone compromises the company where you host your family photos that sucks but unless you share the login with your email provider that's where the damage stops. Now if you get phished or run a cookie stealer etc. they have everything from email which allows them to access almost all other accounts you have to which they now also know which aliases you use for which so they don't have to brute force, yada yada yada.Doesn't mean you have to use it that way but trusting the ecosystem pretty much implies you're not just going to store your .ssh/config on there.
