Why did Reddit drastically change over the past 10 years?
>>
money
>>
drumpfert happened so they locked it down, which ironically made drumpfert and even bigger gaurantee because it showed of obviously astroturfed the website was.

now, it's not even funny anymore. you can hide post history, and subreddits can hide active users and subcounts, so it's even easier to fake everything. Aside from using it for very specific small scale subs, the website is genuinely unusable
>>
>>109550677
It was actually very comfy before 2015.
fatpeoplehate and coontown were funny.
Back then its biggest problems were edgy atheists, now it's facist levels of moderation and censorship by blue hard leftists.
>>
>>109550677
Reddit was always shit.
If it's taken you this long to realise that it's shit, you're painfully, irredeemably retarded.
>>
>>109550806
This. Admins wanted it profitable so you need to flush out the unprofitable shit and 3rd party apps
>>
People will say they got rid of coontown and FPH for advertiser money, but that's not actually the reason. They were probably the first big tech to sell out to AI and data scraping, even before AI when people were still calling it "machine learning", even before Facebook did so.
>>
>>109550677
Basically all the good subreddits got banned, and they were good because they had this overall feeling that they despised reddit culture.
>>
>>109551396
I have this schizo theory that the site was always built with this purpose in mind and its why the mascot is an alien, or rather a bot mocking the user and what their posts will become.
>>
When I used reddit I would regularly delete my account every 3-4 months and make a new one to avoid accidentally building up too much identifying information on a single username. Once they moved to AI driven automatic moderation this became almost impossible to do. They have some sort of weighting on the strictness of moderation to be absolutely crazy strict on new accounts (under a few months). The absolutely inane bullshit I was instabanned for by AI moderators was ridiculous.
I was instabanned for saying "I would support the US going to war against Israel" because that "promoted violence."
I know this weighting is harsher on new accounts because I've seen established older accounts saying similar things and not get banned.
And 95% of all the subreddits require you to have a certain karma threshold and minimum account age in order to participate, so you get into this exercise of walking on eggshells trying to find one of the very very few subreddits that allows new accounts to post AND desperately trying to say something that won't get you instabanned. I gave up pretty quickly.
>>
The cofounder Aaron Swartz died in 2013 and reddit's descent became inevitable after that. He was the actual libertarian of the group that valued anonymity and was against censorship.
>>
>>109551467
you're probably onto something, the robot has always been creepy. but then again, the 4chan logo also has a sinister meaning FWIW.
>>
I neither know nor care, but lately it's started freezing me out with a signup screen when I go there to read up on some issue and honestly they're doing me a favor because it's a horrible place
>>
>>109551577
>the 4chan logo also has a sinister meaning
Fortune? Futaba? I'm genuinely curious. What do you mean?

they went from 5 millions active users to 400+ millions. the amount of Indian users went from 0.5% to >8% since covid (almost one user on ten)
>>
>>109550840
Reddit had issues before that with stuff like jailbait, creepshots, gore, piracy and e-wars between different factions.
>>
>>109551599
you retard jeets aren't the ones kvetching about not being pro gay/tranny/lefty it's the hundreds of millions of Americans after reddit blew up and went mainstream
>>
>>109550677
Just like any other centralised platforms, it was only a matter of time until lefties nigger started flocking to it and made it become shit.
>>

clover = c lover = child lover. it's a symbol for pedophilia, even according to the FBI
>>
>>109550677
Moot met with Epstein. Reddit actually had Jizzlane on the admin team.
>>
>>109550887
Fatpeople hate inspired me to lose weight, still working on it but there is no such thing as fat acceptance since humans are biologically wired to prefer fit people.
>>
>>109550677
Political actors took over the moderation and it became a political echo chamber. Trump 1.0, Biden 1.0, Trump 2.0.
>>
>>109550900
This i was onboard reddit from 2011 to 2014. 3 years until it became a shothole

It's 4chan but for narcissistic tripfags who are overly sensitive and so power tripping that they demand everything to be censored.

that's it
people say that 4chan is the bottom of the barrel but if you really want to lose all hope in humanity, just read through any non-technical reddit thread
"redditors" are braindead idiots

Holy newfag, now THIS is Reddit.
>>
>>109550677
it’s all bots and shills and bot shills circlejerking whatever marching orders they received on a given day
4chan is worthless as a propaganda target so there’s less of that outside of some schizo corners like pol

it's a glownigger data mining operation. eglin AFB incident, maxwellhill's account, ellen pao stating that she saw maxwell attend business social gatherings in silicon valley, etc.
>>
>>109550677
It did? All I ever used it for was aggregated news feeds, it was never a good substitute for actual forums.
>>
Both sites are bad but reddit will actively censor discussion that doesn't fit the common opinion with down voting/hiding posts.
>>
>>109553847
Assuming it isnt deleted by some troon mod first
>>
reddit stopped calling itself the front page of the internet bc there is no longer one front page.

the user feed is now personalized and
disorienting. the objective now seems to be harvesting ad dollars from people collectively being kept from seeing how bad it has gotten wrt to moderation and fake content
>>
>get a login wall on old reddit
wow it really is over
what even is left, racist reddit (4chan), orange reddit (hn), the uhhh music website I like and a bunch of torrent sites and that’s about it? out of the entire internet?
I guess there’s no real reason to oppose all the authoritarian muh digital id landgrabs in the west, what even is left?
>>
>>109550677

is /g/ the most reddit board? every goddamn day several threads about reddit. Just go there and don't return, who the fuck cares what the state of reddit is.

I don't want to participate, I just want to access comment threads for specific things that have been talked about

Convergent evolution
Reddit started as a soulless link aggregator and became 4chan for normalfags
4chan began as an edgelord anime site but became a soulless twitter and reddit aggregator
>>
>>109555773
this place is mostly dead now and thus most of the content has to come from either reddit or twitter.
>>
>>109555773
/g/ is the anything but technology board. You will get banned for discussing technology but don't mind the 60 reddit, discord drama and twitter screenshot threads
>>
>>109550677
When using a normiefied indexed search engine, the five things that commonly appear are:
>R*ddit
>Quora
>Youtube shorts
>Braindead shill articles
>Insert big social media platform
This makes me very sad.
:c

I remember when Reddit was still known as a "bastion of free speech" on the internet with lax moderation because offensive opinions would just get hidden by downvotes anyway so anyone who wanted to could just enable that setting.
Downvotes have gotten so much worse now and you now get the overzealous moderators on top of that and the customary block as a victory trophy for utterly winning an argument.

I still resent r/nosleep for taking down my horror story. In short, it's about a corrupt federal judge named Judge Dennis Fletcher, using the legal system to kidnap a college student named Jeffrey Hoffmann for his sadistic pleasure. while following their strict rules of violence of any kind. it got 624 views before it was taken down, the only reason i got views at all was because it was posted at midnight central time (when the moderators were most likely asleep). i had an agrument with those same mods. they said it was "too much/not a great fit for the community". Bullshit! I said "enjoy your basic bitch stories." I got banned shortly after!

Anyway, It's called Caged if your interested. I can repost it on /lit/ thread.

I sure fucking hope it used to be better. A few months ago after a particularly shit run of threads filled with twitter post garbage I tried reddit for the first time ever, since being an ultra oldfag my pride wouldn't let me.

First I made an account and commented on something the next day, immediately I'm banned by some automated community moderation tool despite leaving a normal human comment. Then I had to appeal it, which took like 3 days. The guy that lifted my ban literally said I should build up karma by commenting basically the same thing as everyone else in a handful of subreddits I couldn't care less about. Ok, sounds kind of fucking retarded but I'll try it.

So I give it a week and come back then post some inane shit on like r/gaming or something. Immediately shadowbanned, which I only know because the site keeps giving me non-stop errors and I have to research what it means. So I learn how to appeal that too. "Your appeal may take several days". Come back 2 days later to check, now I'm permanently banned.

Make a new account and a thread asking why I was banned. Get like 3 comments saying "actually you are ban evading and reddit has no obligation to give you a reason :)))))) GET HIM MODS!!!!!". Anyway I got perma'd again in less than an hour.

Truly a dogshit experience. I will never doubt 4chan again

Oh this doesn't even include that multiple posts I wanted to see were marked as NSFW despite not being in any way NSFW and in order to see them it wanted a selfie and/or my government ID. No fucking way I'm ever doing that
>>
>>109551477
>I know this weighting is harsher on new accounts
Well that's no conspiracy, they straight out won't let you post on many subs unless you've got enough le karma on a new account so you end up having to go to one of the big open subs and post something "funny" to farm karma.
They're still disingenuous assholes about it though since many subs will hide that rule and people end up making shadowposts.

>>109550677
Because white people. The only based platforms a ruled by east asians from China or Japan. Whites are cucks. Blacks are eternal slaves.

>Free speech absolutist co-founder hacks MIT, steals documents that ought to be free, Feds throw the book at him, then he kills himself
>Tinfoil: May have dug up some things regarding the Epstein cult which would explain why the feds went down so hard on him

I have a feeling that may have been the first domino.
>>
>>109550677
good question
reddit used to be really similar to 4chan, it's crazy how similar they were. hell reddit allowed crazy shit like r/jailbait which to my knowldge is significantly worse than anything 4chan has ever allowed
i'd guess the change was because of a number of things. advertisers, ditching the boys club asthetic after controversies (like blizzard did, rip old blizzard), maybe others
>>
>>109558243
and now that shit became a insane destructive religion, thanks goymericans
