Lol, Jewcuck is such a faggot, making drama of Linux removing support for such platforms as i486 and Pentium 1. Those poor Linux user who used these in the year 2026, how will they ever recover? And I wonder how much money Jewcuck donated to Linux maintainers to continue to support this abandonware?
Yet modern Linux distributions still support a lot of old hardware, much more than Windows 11 does. You can still compile old drivers and use Nvidia GPUs that went EoL even before Windows 11 was released, not to mention AMD GPUs that are still getting updated user-space drivers.

NTA and not to be that guy, but i486 was last produced in 2007 and that was for embedded systems, meaning consumers using that chip and needing newest kernel would be few and far between. Even businesses probably have moved on long time ago.
Removing support for a hardware, almost nobody (probably dozen people in the whole world) uses, should not be controversial at all.

Let's ask the real questions that makes the OP (Lunduke, the Jew LARPer in the Xitter screenshot):

Why won't the OP donate to maintainers since he's totally not lying about wanting support for extremely niche hardware?

How many of you knew the OP was the first to try and cancel Stallman because Stallman doesn't like proprietary software and doesn't want the age of consent to be above the age 25?

How many of you knew the OP calls you a child murderer if you think people shouldn't get paid to write harmful software?

How many of you knew the OP used to get paid by SUSE to shitpost on their Twitter account until he started accusing them of being Nazis because they wouldn't let him call everyone a stupid goy?

Also, a Jew calling anyone a Nazi is ironic and it shows you how parasitic Jews are, as Nazis lied, raped, and murdered much less, and they were the biggest Zionists in gentile history.

Nvidia drivers are kernel version agnostic as long as you can compile dkms modules for it.
>>
>>109556971
Distros depend on a kernel.
>>
>>109559176
That's already how it works. When you build the kernel, you can choose what is built as inbuilt, as modular, or as neither. Modular modules dynamically get loaded if the hardware is detected. Inbuilt doesn't run unless the hardware is detected, but can't be disabled. In practice, the vast majority of modules in distributed linux (the kernel) binaries are modular.

>>
>>109559062
It still has that. Lots of components are supported for 20+ years, but it's a 35yo kernel. It's at a point where it's going to be shedding drivers because maintainers age out and young people don't care. 68040 hardware is still supported, but 486 isn't. This, when people think of "bringing to life old hardware" they're thinking of core 2 and beyond, stuff you can buy for nothing and use an up to date OS on, no one is buying 486 computers to use for anything even if you wanted to it's so fucking unsable and not sensible, it's not like they're deprecating a fucking Core 2 duo that the third world still uses, the same retards bitching about this are the same stupid fucks bitching about laptops not having obsolete shit like VGA ports and DVD drives that make them thicker and heavier for no good reason, eventually some things that are so old and unusable have to be deprecated, it's nothing new, Linux has been wanting to jettison firewire support in 2029, and that's perfectly fine because newer stuff like USB 3 has come out to replace it.

I am all about keeping old usable hardware going as long as possible, but the hardware in question is beyond it's usefulness, that's why it's silly to compare dropping a pentium 1 to Windows 11 literally dropping kaby lake laptops with 32GB of RAM in it .

More like Linux Mint XFCE, also who the fuck is even using a 486 piece of shit for anything? Can the board it's in even support enough RAM to run a distro these days? why are we tripping? You get to the point with a piece of technology where it's so slow and useless that it doesn't even make sense to power it on other then to run old stuff that it has been running for years.
>>
>>109566830
>More like Linux Mint XFCE
Bloated, NetBSD still runs on a Mac SE/30 without issue. XFCE needs more RAM than the entire system has on that platform. You'd just thrash the disk and it'd be unusable. You're a child.

It's fun to tinker with old computers, and Linux is no longer good for that. Linux will lose mindshare as people migrate to other platforms. For example, SGI Indy just came back alive for Plan9, because users wanted it.

Government wants people to stop using old computers, that's why everything good and nice and old and tested and working, is being replaced by corporate Linux. I say fuck them and fuck that.

>>109566880
Linux had a lot of mindshare from hackers, that time has passed and now most of the work is done by large globohomo corporations. It's OK, people have alternatives.

As hobbyists and hackers turn their gaze elsewhere, Linux will become more and more stodgy, needlessly complicated, and Windows-like, as was the design since the Halloween Document was sent out.

Nothing. They want ancient hardware to be supported but also existing kernel devs should bear 100% of the burden for porting old drivers to new APIs. Even though they have no way to verify whether any of this shit actually works.

Typical Lunduke well poisoning op. The people who contribute are actually le bad.
>>
>>109571469
That's not how you do things. If you have too much burden for feature X and you're a community project, you make a deprecation warning, ask for volunteers to step up to take over the a feature, and then depreciate if nobody steps up after 6 months. You don't axe things with no warnings.
>>
>>109571559
They do all the time on lkml, where all the qualified people are. It's not like it suddenly becomes much more difficult to port old hardware to the new API after it gets removed. Any undergrad could do it.

But you won't. Because you're not a programmer. You won't pay to have it done either. You're just going to sit on the internet and bitch.
>>
>>109571682

Whose? Jewcucks? I didn't watch his ragebait drama shit video, but just from xitter post I presume he was talking about Linux kernel. All Linux graphic drivers are DRM drivers. Those NVIDIA proprietary drivers that don't support DRM (read: Wayland) are not part of Linux kernel.
>>
Prominent zionist Bryan Lunduke is part of an ongoing campaign to undermine GPL ideology by making open source software unpalatable to maintainers and end users while also casting well reasoned critics as anti-trans bigots. If you fall for his tricks you, deserve what you get.
>>
>>109571941
>Can you name a single distirbution that doesn't ship Xorg?
I said supported not present. Both KDE and Gnome are moving to wayland only. Only schizo distros like Artix are trying to planning to maintain a kde that works with x11 (don't think they have plans for gnome tho)
>Do you have ETA when applications will drop X11 support entirely?
The DE deprecations also apply here. Additionally dependency trees are already getting messed up. I tried to update an older fedora 37 install and noticed that it didn't setup dbus properly with it's xfce session leading to all kinds of errors. Also it wasn't setting mousepoll correctly anymore. It used to work automatically, but now it isn't being maintained.
>So what?
Linux Davinci Resolve Nvidia bros also need working computers anon.
>Whose? Jewcucks? I didn't watch his ragebait drama shit video, but just from xitter post I presume he was talking about Linux kernel. All Linux graphic drivers are DRM drivers. Those NVIDIA proprietary drivers that don't support DRM (read: Wayland) are not part of Linux kernel.
I haven't watched any of his X stuff or paid stuff, but he is clearly pointing out a direction with "becoming less true". Obviously Nvidia's proprietary drivers aren't part of the Linux Kernel. In this context of x11 & wayland 'Linux' is referring the distribution channels outside the Linux Foundation that just use the kernel.

I agree that the kernel deprecations are nothing burgers, but talking about them is good propaganda for the real shit.
>>
>>109572299

>>

>Linux Davinci Resolve Nvidia bros also need working computers anon.
Nvidia and Davinci are both proprietary shitware. If they decided to drop old hardware support there's nothing Linux can do. Old AMD hardware is supported by community, even get performance and feature updates.
>>
>>109572323
>There's no XFCE on modern Fedora?
You misunderstood. I had a fully working xfce install on 37 that I updated (the propper incremental way) through to 44. By the time it got to 42 the session file and dependency trees weren't correct.
>>
>>109572350
>I had a fully working xfce install on 37 that I updated (the propper incremental way) through to 44.
And what does it have to do with drop of X11 support. Question was: is there a distribution without Xorg and single DE that is relying on Xorg? No? Then everything else is irrelevant. Just because Fedora fucked up something in their update system that made your old ass setup not working is irrelevant as long as modern Fedora has Xorg and some DE based on it.
>>
The only reason I support this is because I know they'll remove a critical part in the future and get shitcanned when it prevents xyz hardware from being usable at work.
>>
>>109572348
>If they decided to drop old hardware support there's nothing Linux can do
Only Linux as in the kernel can do nothing. 'Linux' as in Linux Distros have full control over what packages to and not to deprecate.
>And what does it have to do with drop of X11 support
Like I said the dependency tree was incorrect. If X11 was still being supported an error that bad would not happen with that important of a package.
>>109572387
>Just because Fedora fucked up something in their update system that made your old ass setup not working is irrelevant as long as modern Fedora has Xorg and some DE based on it
It is not irrelevant as it shows that it is being less supported which is what I have said from the beginning. Also, I highly doubt it is the update system.
>Some DE based on it
This is also not correct. "Some DE" is not suitable for people who actually do work. It has to be able to run properly and predictably. You can't have drawfags, video editors, 3d modelers, etc using broken software. Older nonfree hardware is sometimes the only option for them and it is sad to see those people put into stressful situations.

You do realize you can compile software from source completely ignore package manager and packages, right?
>If X11 was still being supported an error that bad would not happen with that important of a package.
This has nothing to do with support. Linux Mint had broken Steam package that was leading to system breakage. It doesn't mean that Steam package wasn't supported.
>being less supported
"Being less supported" is still supported. On Windows 11 things are not supported meaning you can do anything to make them work. You can't use older hardware on Windows 11. You can on Linux. Can you use old hardware on Linux EASILY? That's irrelevant.
>It has to be able to run properly and predictably.
Nobody promises that old support hardware not will work reliably. Hell, nobody even promises that new hardware will work reliably. It clearly stated in GPL and EULA of proprietary applications.
>You can't have drawfags, video editors, 3d modelers, etc using broken software.
At this point you just making shit up. You do realize we're talking about old NVIDIA GPUs that, like ancient, pre-Maxwell and Pascal cards. I'm sure there not a single person who is doing professional work but still relying on this software. And even if he does, I see why would he have any problems with old drivers when he can still use X11 on modern distribution with his old ass shit drivers?
>Older nonfree hardware is sometimes the only option for them and it is sad to see those people put into stressful situations.
If we talk about old nonfree in general there are plenty of proprietary hardware that was running on particular kernel versions (for example, android blobs) and is not compatible with newer kernel. This situation exists for more than a decade and will continue to exist because those proprietary blobs are not part of Linux kernel.

>You do realize you can compile software from source completely ignore package manager and packages, right?
If you want broken software that doesn't have any cases tested then sure, but otherwise no that doesn't work out anon.
You can break dependency trees by just replacing libxft. If you think you can get away with replacing the xserver or mesa you are completely delusional.
And replacing the entire dependency tree is just retarded. At that point just install gentoo.
>This has nothing to do with support. Linux Mint had broken Steam package that was leading to system breakage. It doesn't mean that Steam package wasn't supported
The difference here is that Steam had a error with dependency resolution that doesn't stem from diminishing maintenance due to a non-replacement on the way.
>"Being less supported" is still supported. On Windows 11 things are not supported meaning you can not* do anything to make them work. You can't use older hardware on Windows 11. You can on Linux. Can you use old hardware on Linux EASILY? That's irrelevant.
You have 0 knowledge of what you are talking about. Windows can have community patches as well. The difference is that without source availability for the corresponding nt kernel the hacks are crappy and don't run properly or predictably. It's not about old hardware being 'easy', but being reasonable.
>At this point you just making shit up. You do realize we're talking about old NVIDIA GPUs that, like ancient, pre-Maxwell and Pascal cards. I'm sure there not a single person who is doing professional work but still relying on this software.
This is just lies. Lots of documented critical problems with cards much newer than maxwell for Nvidia on wayland.

>Nobody promises that old support hardware not will work reliably. Hell, nobody even promises that new hardware will work reliably. It clearly stated in GPL and EULA of proprietary applications.
You are misunderstanding. The issue is not that some promise has been broken, but rather that a reasonable use case has been ignored. Which is poorfag Nvidia bros.
>And even if he does, I see why would he have any problems with old drivers when he can still use X11 on modern distribution with his old ass shit drivers?
I already went over this.
>If we talk about old nonfree in general there are plenty of proprietary hardware that was running on particular kernel versions (for example, android blobs) and is not compatible with newer kernel. True however this one is unique due to the scale of who it effects. Which is lots poorfag nvidia users and users of x11 proprietary software.

>And replacing the entire dependency tree is just retarded. At that point just install gentoo.
You're making no point. My point was that Xorg and DE using it are still supported, and you can install and run them today, and use hardware that's not supported on Wayland (and on Windows 11). You didn't disapprove me. Instead, you're writing irrelevant stuff that has nothing to do with my point.
>The difference here is that Steam had a error with dependency resolution that doesn't stem from diminishing maintenance due to a non-replacement on the way.
This is just nonsense
>You have 0 knowledge of what you are talking about. Windows can have community patches as well.
Show me NVIDIA GPU running on Windows 11 that went EoL on Windows 10.
>This is just lies. Lots of documented critical problems with cards much newer than maxwell for Nvidia on wayland.
How is this related? Are we still talking about old hardware or not? Pascall had drivers that is working on Wayland and I tested it. Turing+ is still supported.

>You are misunderstanding. The issue is not that some promise has been broken, but rather that a reasonable use case has been ignored. Which is poorfag Nvidia bros.
What are you talking about? What is your point? Stop talking nonsense. Poorfag Nvidia bros can run modern X11 on modern Linux distribution today, when they can't run Windows 11 since there are no drivers. If they can't run something is because Nvidia ceased support and there's nothing Linux community can do.
>True however this one is unique due to the scale of who it effects. Which is lots poorfag nvidia users and users of x11 proprietary software.
This is completely unrelated to what I wrote and I don't even know why you wrote this.

Actually, all your posts are wrong, you didn't even understand the point of OP post. Jewcuck was trying to make drama of Linux stopping support for old hardware, i486 and Pentium 1 in particular. For some reason you brought that Linux is dropping support for old NVIDIA GPUs when it barely has any to begin with (nouveau driver). You're telling support of old NVIDIA GPUs will be dropped because of Wayland, but they're working just fine today on X11 and there's indication when it will be dropped (if it will be at all).
>>

You're 'point' comes from a misunderstanding on your part. I said that they don't work properly >>109571872 & that the general direction is away from X11 >>109571919 . This is what he regularly complains about and am I saying that is correct because it harms users. Meanwhile you bring up irrelevant shit like promises of licenses and non sequiturs like compiling from source instead of fixing the dependency tree.
>If they can't run something is because Nvidia ceased support and there's nothing Linux community can do.
Linux distros can support X11 better duh. That's what works with those cards. I mentioned problems with the dependencies and it seems to just go over your head. X11 isn't supported if it isn't maintained and X11 obviously isn't made by Nvidia.
I don't think you have any understanding of what dependency resolution is lol.
> but they're working just fine today on X11 and there's not* indication when it will be dropped (if it will be at all).
There is very clearly indication that X11 will be dropped. Wtf do you think the two biggest desktops environments are dropping it does. Wtf do you think rebasing to an older version is supposed to accomplish. It's in the dustbin of history at this point since dependcies required for DEs are going to be updated with wayland in mind first. The dependency trees will made with wayland as the priority.
And it sucks because if you look at the issue trackers for wayland and it's DEs + WCs. It's almost all shit that was solved on X11 years ago or retarded shit. One of the longer discussions was arguing over, but what if we needed VR support mannn. Just idiotic crap.

>>109574429
>I said that they don't work properly
They work. On X11. X11 is still supported.
>that the general direction is away from X11
X11 works today. They work on X11. Your point it irreleveant.
>Linux distros can support X11 better duh.
Linux distros already support X11 just fine. They still ship X11 WMs and people are using them just fine.
>I mentioned problems with the dependencies and it seems to just go over your head.
Problems with dependencies are problems of the one particular distro. They do not represent state of the whole community.
>X11 isn't supported if it isn't maintained
X11 is supported and maintained as of today
> X11 obviously isn't made by Nvidia.
Xorg DDX driver is made by Nvidia though
>There is very clearly indication that X11 will be dropped.
There is? Last time I've checked there are 3 new X display servers being developed.
>Wtf do you think the two biggest desktops environments are dropping it does.
There are other DEs and WMs, some don't have plans on moving to Wayland

Anyway, your shit is offtopic. It's not relevant to OP post, and it's not even accurate. Your just making drama over nothing, like jewcuck
