>Currently studying CS at age 25 in the year 2026 because I want a stable high-paying career as a game developer at a video game company someday

Am I going to make it?

junior here, be prepared for a long road of writing applications. I'm not a game dev but web dev/fullstack and I needed omething 150+ applications till I landed a job this year.
>>
you will be replaced by a chinese AI that runs off a datacenter in Shenzhen powered by coal
>>

The number of job openings in the IT sector in 2026 is higher than in 2022-2025.

No become electrician.
>>
>>109563175
You don't need a CS degree to make sloppy games in Unreal or Unity or Gyattdot.
>>
we're all going to make it
you must understand that FUD drives social media engagement. what people say online about CS is not the whole truth. yes it will be hard but it's not impossible.

>stable high-paying career
>video game development

>>109563175
Get a real fucking job. CS is for faggots and women.
Claude has already replaced you

keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek this retard is studying cs in the big 26 KEKEKEEKEKEEKE
I’m sure you’re going to transition soon.
Nobody needs codetrans and cstrans anymore, we already have AI and we replaced you
>>
>>109563175
Be very, very good at math. Prioritize it. If you want to work in the games industry, they don't need game designers or gameplay programmers. They need engine programmers and graphics programmers, and you must have strong math skills to be good at the things they need.

>stable
>high-paying
pick one

lmao no

If you have to ask, you are not going to make it
>>
>>109563263
Wait until you need math calclus so your bullets behavior doesn't use the sloppy generic stuff from your engine. Cool games use custom engine with custom code.
>>
I'm studying electronic engineering. how fucked am I?

also, is a masters worth it?

you design new soccer game based your gameplay experiences in pro evolution soccer?

it could always be worse. you could be a math major like me, who is smart enough to do well in school but not smart enough to get a "math" job besides teaching (lol)

have you tried learning excel and getting a job at some govt statistics department?

Literally has not been the case since the 80's.
Let's ignore the absolute generalized state of the market instead of the specifics of game dev.
>>
>>109563238
They aren't.
>>
>>109569612
He's probably not black enough for this. They don't give these jobs to white people.
>>
>>109566980
I was doing that at 13. Formal math education is a joke.
>>
>>109563175
self-study CS and switch to EE, thank me later.
>>
>>109569801
EE gets the shit pay so it's not ideal. But it's better than 300 applications and a university exam at every application that converts to an interview just to potentially get a salaried job you'll be expected to work 80+ hours a week OR ELSE at.

Do cloud computing as your focus or switch majors
>>

>off a datacenter in Shenzhen powered by coal
You do know they're rolling out GW of solar every month? Hammering wind too...

Those coal mines? They're powered by electricity. Commonly by panels on site. Got electric tonka trucks. Several sectors already getting end-to-end electrification, and it's rolling out faster than clearly you can keep up with...

Wanna take a bet on china being the first superpower to eliminate coal from it's energy mix?

>>109569813
>Do cloud computing
Just as everyone is realising that it's a bad idea to put something important into someone else's control and heading back to local. Good idea.
>>
>>109569824
Ching chang chong to you too chinky
>>
>>109563263
That right there is 90% of uni. Its not actually that difficult they just make it as hard to understand as possible(on purpose). If you ask gemini to explain you will have the whole semester learned in 2 days. I wish i went electrical engineering instead but chsnging now would be really stupid only 1 year left till master's
>>
>>109569900
AI answers are like those slick short youtube explaining videos.
They gave you the feeling and dopamine hit of learning something but you didn't actually learn shit, you just fooled your brain into thinking it did.

It's like the scene in A Serious Man.

This is why you fail at everything you do.

Do you feel proud, yet?

>currently studying oversaturated degree as a grandpa in the year of outsourcing and LLMs because I want an unstable low-paying gig as a junior game dev at a video game company that will hire prajeet x10 instead
Do yourself a favor and become an EE, ME or CE instead. If your degree ends in science and you aren't a 10000 IQ savant or non-whiteboy, you're going to become homeless.
>>
>>109570171
My degree ends in science and I am a 100000 IQ savant, but I still can't get shit despite the quantitative metrics showcasing the above.
Everything, science or otherwise, is about whom you know, nothing else matters in 2026. Talent, achievements, technical skills, none of that even remotely matters.
>>
>>109567000
Most game code is generic shit. 90% of what makes a good game a good game is assets, writing, story and gameplay, and gameplay is usually just some previously existing gameplay glued together to form different generas or just edited to feel better.
>>
>>109570734
This i feel like assets is what makes a game good nowadays and you need a shitton.
>>
>>109570734
Most game code is very game-specific. The assets, writing and story are very largely generic. Gameplay is defined by code and is purely what makes a game good or bad. Bad games use cobbled together copy of previous mechanics. Good games universally use new gameplay mechanics and system, which is why most game code is unique.

None of that shit is hidden knowledge, you could even google it (since clearly you've never made a game before, or talked to anyone who has).
>>
>>109570913
Anon you realise game mechanics are the same across the same genres??? There hanst been invneted new mechancis since 2010.
>>
>>109569824
China only generates about 8% of its energy via solar, Chang. They're ranked 55th in the world in terms of percentage of energy generated by solar. Even the UK ranks above them and they get no sun.
>>
>>109570936
If you are talking about what passes for games nowadays then I do agree with you, but that's because they aren't game, they're slop. It's not a question of the space being saturated or whatever either.
